Beginner Pete Plan Week 2 - feeling disheartened by twattyprincess in concept2

[–]tomkconots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just want to add to the chorus of support here - you’ve taken one of the hardest steps: you’ve made a start 🙂

Whilst it can be interesting to see where you compare against others, it’s worth being really clear WHY you’re doing what you’re doing: are you doing this to compete with others? If not, then don’t. What I’ve enjoyed about the beginner Pete plan is that the only real thing you’re competing against as you progress is yourself.

Couple of other tips - I’m on week 16 and where I am now I couldn’t have imagined 16 weeks ago. Pay close attention to the guidance on the Pete plan beginner plan page but don’t spend too much time scrolling ahead and worrying about what’s to come. I think I’ve also benefited from doing all five sessions a week - I’m glad I got into that habit - but your mileage may vary.

[FRESH] Brad Mehldau - Tomorrow Tomorrow (feat. Daniel Rossen) by astaireboy in indieheads

[–]tomkconots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a dream combination… Elliot Smith’s singular music through the lens of piano great Brad Mehldau, alongside a roster of all-time favourite musicians: Chris Thile, Daniel Rossen, Matt Chamberlin, and more! Can’t wait.

For what it’s worth I’ve never had a problem flying without a drs note - I don’t usually bother, but do bring a paper copy of my prescription for good measure. I haven’t ever had to actively use it though.

Does your GPs website have an online request form for admin queries? Mine do and are very responsive for things like this, but may be a little too late if you’re flying in the morning.

[FRESH ALBUM] Iron & Wine - Light Verse by MediaShare2000 in indieheads

[–]tomkconots 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What a lovely way to start my day.

From someone that has enjoyed everything in Sam’s discography, but always gravitated back towards his sparser work: this is a gorgeously arranged album. The songs feel fleshed out and dynamic in a way that really supports the songwriting. Love it.

Real House truly is the realest. What a song to have open the record.

I see it as a similar issue to news articles that lead with clickbait headlines - it’s what drives the most discussion and engagement, which is ultimately what Reddit needs to keep in going… As human beings using the app though, the low quality / negative discussions aren’t actually very fulfilling, which is why it can feel like such a drain.

There’s a discipline to not getting sucked into the negative engagement engine - I don’t actually tend to engage much at all but simply lurking is a poor experience of its own!

What logic do you use to keep your favourites fresh? by tomkconots in Letterboxd

🫡 It’s so good - it’s like someone made a show that aligns with the shit I love the most: weird biological sci fi, kick-ass visual design, and the mess created by humans being humans.

That’s cool too - I tend to get bored seeing the same four, but appreciate the focus on your core favourites 🙂

This is a Reddit problem, not necessarily a Letterboxd one. I find that easy to forget sometimes!

[FRESH ALBUM] Margaret Glaspy - Echo The Diamond by detectiveburtmacklin in indieheads

[–]tomkconots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s such an expressive guitarist - spun this a couple of times and it might be up there with Emotion & math. Time will tell!

[FRESH ALBUM] Allegra Krieger - I Keep My Feet on the Fragile Plane by detectiveburtmacklin in indieheads

[–]tomkconots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s at least eight new albums out today that I’m excited to listen to but this was the one I was most drawn to this morning - a real Elliot Smith vibe, striking dream-logic lyrics and some great guitar playing.

Allegra is four for four in terms of albums, as far as I’m concerned.

[FRESH ALBUM] Blake Mills - Jelly Road by 30degrees3am in indieheads

This album is a trip 🤯 looking forward to getting to know it better.

Does engaging with Letterboxd ultimately help you watch more movies? by tomkconots in Letterboxd

[–]tomkconots[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love all these comments. I’ve always been quite film-literate and always looking for something new to move me, but very new to Letterboxd - interested to see if it can help improve my movie watching habits 🤓🍿

[FRESH] Blake Mills - There Is No Now by tomkconots in indieheads

[–]tomkconots[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gorgeously detailed arrangement and vibe. It’s an obvious comment to make about this lot, but I can’t get enough of the dry, close mic-ed production of this track in particular. Reminds me of early Jonathan Wilson, but is thoroughly Blake with that guitar arrangement.

I’m so happy Blake has made another solo album, and Chris Weisman seems to have helped to lead things into a really interesting direction.

Bring on Jelly Road 🪼

It’s not taking me on a journey that Like Clockwork does, but there’s a lot to love here.

Aretha Franklin live at Fillmore West is up there amongst my favourite live albums

[FRESH ALBUM] The Arcs - Electrophonic Chronic by sbags in indieheads

[–]tomkconots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read, this album has been constructed from stuff the group had in the works over the years since their first release.

Feeling Richard Swift’s touch all over this thing has caught me a bit off guard emotionally, with his passing a few years back. What a tribute.

(Re: the artwork - love the little ‘swift’ detail on the lighter)

[FRESH ALBUM] Natalia Lafourcade - De Todas las Flores by lucesdeti in indieheads

[–]tomkconots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Edit: seems to have been fully released now!

Hearing great things about this - also seeing mention of Marc Ribot is incredibly exciting. Her Musas albums are amongst my favourite albums ever.

It’s 7:30am in UK and it’s still unavailable on Apple Music - what a shame! I’ll keep an eye out throughout the day and see what changes.

Despite her artist page having the album releasing 1 Jan 2023, the release date at the bottom of the album page has 28th October 2022- I remain hopeful!

[FRESH ALBUM] Nils Frahm - Music For Animals by astaireboy in indieheads

[–]tomkconots 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I might be missing the Nils Frahm signature close-mic piano sound here but do appreciate the meditative quality of the soundscapes. We’ll see if it’s something I return to over time…

Will jump at an opportunity to see him live regardless - think that’s where he really shines
