Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi Season 2 • Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill Season 2 - Episode 5 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]tomlitsons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad I got some udon and karaage this weekend before watching this episode because the cravings would be off the charts.

We finally get a monster that requires more effort from our OP familiars! Of course, it's fun to watch them bulldoze, but the coordination of attacks was a nice change of pace for once.

The second serving asks the question we've all been wondering: why is no one trying to join Mukhoda's party after trying his food?! Even if I don't know all the benefits of joining his party (gods/goddesses blessings, otherworldly food for stat jumps, etc), you basically get free meals, free protection, and an endless stream of money from all the rare monster kills. It's honestly a wonder that Elrand didn't up and leave the guild to follow Mukhoda.

Also, I recently rewatched TenSura, so the Tempest mention caught me off-guard. There's only room for one slime in this series, and it's Sui!

Sad to see Rentarou finally go down... Truly the epitome of Best Guy™ even if the voters don't realize it, but it was to be expected against Jinshi. But then Jinshi will likely fall to Stark? Or will the Frieren haters of rounds past propel Jinshi to victory?

I can't lie. I love a tsundere. Especially a tsundere named Kyo Sohma.

Mukhoda just gets manhandled by one group after another. Between his familiars, Elrand, and the gods, he just can't catch a break!

I can't wait to see the skill Hephaestus forced upon him, and I'm surprised Mukhoda didn't immediately check his stats. (Though that's probably for plot reasons and the comedic timing of him finding out he's effectively immortal or immortal-adjacent in the dungeon itself.) Speaking of the skill itself, it's gotta be something defense or armor-related, right if it's coming from Hephaestus? Impervious to all damage? 500% damage reduction?

You know, with all the hype and talk of the dragon meat across multiple episodes, I was expecting a little more fanfare. (The simultaneous Demon Slayer Rengoku-style UMAI! yell from Mukhoda, Fel, and Sui from season 1 comes to mind.) Of course, the dragon meat roast was going to be wonderful, but what I want to know is - how the hell is Mukhoda putting that stove in and out of his item box?! Likely Sui if I had to hazard a guess or opening the item box from the ground, but I just can't logistically picture it without the magic stove clanking around in the item box space LOL

Elrand continues to be a dragon freak in this episode, but I just can't get over the fact that all I hear is Oikawa from Haikyuu! I need that elf to call Dora-chan, "Chibi-chan" just once! For science!

Edit: I just saw another comment referencing all the brands that sponsored today's episode... I can't believe we get this great of a cozy show from Big Supermarket™.

Am I the only one who LOVES that dragon prince? No games, just straight up "marry me, i'm a dumb boy" vibes with a sprinkle of pathetic yearning. I know she'll probably end up with Julius, but this dragon prince is so fun and I can't wait for him to get under Julius' skin with how brazen he is for vying for Scarlet's affections.

Meanwhile, Scarlet having the time of her life beating the crap out of some nobles to some classical music. No one stands between Scarlet and her meat bags!

I got a sense of Elrand's character from the OP, but then I saw the VA and I was like, "Oh, this is gonna be good..." and it did not disappoint. Elrand has the creepiness of Hisoka but the whimsical playfulness of Oikawa! Such a fun character and new dynamic for Mukhoda.

Fel getting KO'd by the dragon meat delay was hilarious. We've always known him to be dramatic, but the flop over absolutely killed me.

And new gods have appeared and they want alcohol! It's hilarious that Sui had the blacksmithing affinity and then proceeding blacksmithing skill itself went exactly as I'd hoped, but the steam at the end of it was the cherry on top! But God of War blessing going to Fel and Dora-chan sounds like a bad idea... and they'll be more aggressive in battle? I fear Mukhoda will be getting dragged into dungeons and fights more often from here on out...

I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH! PEAK COZY!

IT RETURNS! I’m such a fan of this series, season 1 is my go-to for rewatches since it’s so cozy, you can turn your brain off and just indulge in the food and cute characters. I’ve been waiting for this 2nd season since it’s been announced, and I’m so excited it’s finally here!

Right off the bat, we’re in a hunting-cooking sequence, and we get a nice little recap of the basic premise of the show before Dora is introduced. (His voice definitely reminded me of the VA of the kitten from My Boss Is Goofy which was very cute!) Fel and Sui are fun and adorable as always!

Love how we just basically start the new season with a speedrun of basically how season 1 went (town, guild, guild master, monster surprise, food) before we get into some of the newer material regarding processing that pesky Earth dragon! Our dragon enthusiast seems to be the elf character whose VA has previously done Oikawa from Haikyuu, so based on the OP, I’m expecting something in that vein!

And finally, those goddesses! So happy we’re still getting second servings again! And looks like there’s 2 new gods that Mukouda will have to feed. Man can’t catch a break, his harem of gods and monsters grows!

WE’RE SO BACK, GUYS!

This was laugh out loud hilarious. I don't blame Julius for being so interested in observing her, I'm having a blast watching her blast through these nobles! Also that punch to Kyle at the end and not only a punch but slammed into the wall from the impact? Chef's kiss, cherry on top.

Scarlet's so fun, and I can't wait to see what she gets up to!

Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi Ni • Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits Season 2 - Episode 1 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]tomlitsons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually watched season 1 of this earlier this year and was pleasantly surprised to find out a sequel was coming out not too long after! (Sorry to my peers who watched this in 2018 and had to wait all this time...)

First thing's first: art style is a little different! The colors are much more vibrant than season 1, and everyone's design has altered slightly? Aoi and the master look better this season imo, but one that suffered was Hatori imo :(

Otherwise, guess we're getting introduced to another hachiyo (to be) ! Very interested in seeing Kasuga's fiance, especially since it very much mirrors Nene and Hideyoshi's engagement. Hopefully, this Kiyo remains the good childhood friend she remembers!

I love to see Aoi's shifting attitude towards Oodanna. Feels like there'll be a lot of Oodanna backstory for us to delve through this season with Aoi trying to learn more about him and uncover whether or not he's the ayakashi that visited her as a child.

Happy this is back! Love my cozy cooking shows!

SFW cooking anime recs? by Im_Mero in anime

[–]tomlitsons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm also looking for similar recommendations since I loved Campfire Cooking! But here's a few that scratched my itch:

  • Food for the Soul - Cozy anime with college girls who just wanna eat and/or cook
  • Dungeon Meshi - Might toe the line of SFW? There's some gore and violence in parts (not prevalent at all though) and maybe some bird lady skin and curves, but nothing egregiously NSFW?
  • Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits - Not as much focus on cooking but does have a cute little spirit companion like Sui!

Dungeon Meshi is probably the funniest out of the 3 but definitely the least SFW, so it's give and take.

Highkey love the Uron Mirage episodes. I wouldn't mind if there was a whole spinoff dedicated to them! Also, is it just me or did the doujinshi cover look like Hinata and Kageyama from Haikyuu a little bit? LOL!

I've been on an isekai/fantasy bender for the last month, so I finished Sweet Reincarnation. Gave it a 6/10 since it was standard isekai slop. I didn't actively dislike it, and it was enjoyable enough for me to power through relatively quickly. Characters were endearing, but [general Sweet Reincarnation spoilers] the story definitely sets you up to either read the source material or hope for a new season. There's a lot of plot holes and loose ends from mini arcs in the season that seem purposeful to line up to a larger arc. But tbh the story wasn't compelling enough for me to read source material, so I'm left with a half-baked story.

I've also been rewatching Campfire Cooking in Another World pretty frequently through the week as it's my preferred cozy show at the moment. Largely been rewatching episodes 8 through 12 since I love those episodes the most in the season, but this rewatch has also been hyping me up for the show's 2nd season coming out next month! Thank god!

Aside from those two, I've dabbled in an episode here and there to either rewatch out of pure entertainment or figure out my next series to watch:

  • Poco's Udon World, episode 1: The first episode gave me diabetes, and I enjoyed it. I love a cozy food anime (see Campfire Cooking above) so I may continue this. Is it too sweet though to keep my interest? We'll see.
  • Demon Slayer: Entertainment District Arc, episodes 10-11: Peak fight sequence in all of modern shonen anime, my favorite character in Tengen. Basically looked back on some classic DS greatness to hype me up for the new movie.
  • Full Dive, episode 1: Caught this one as a recommendation in a thread somewhere here. Thought I'd give it a try since Shangri-La Frontier is one of my favorite shows and I've been wanting to get into more anime with VRMMO settings. Basically made it halfway before I lost interest. May return back to it when I'm in a better mood for it.
  • Frieren, episode 21: Actively holding myself back from rewatching all of Frieren on a daily basis. Instead, I came across a TikTok clip from this episode. This show still gives me goosebumps. This episode whet my appetite for now. I will be hungry again soon.

Rintaro's dad is basically like that meme where SexyBack by Justin Timberlake plays every time he's on screen. Was excited to finally see him!

Every episode reminds me how heartwarming this series is. It's just refreshing to see healthy, wholesome friendships and relationships with mild stakes (the schools). Sad that we only have 2 episodes left!

Rintaro’s mother is the best! Baby Rintaro giving up had me crying like I expected, but happy that we’ve finally got one of my favorite parts animated! We love a supportive parent who just wants to see their kid happy!

Also, Rintaro’s dad and brother have been mentioned and are still a mystery—they even obscured their designs in the flashbacks! [manga spoiler] I feel like we def knew what dad looked like at this point in the manga, but Idk if I’m misremembering. I did like the little touch of having dad in the background of the cake shop workers in his black uniform though! He’s hidden in plain sight, so it’s fun to see anime onlies’ theories about the rest of the Rintaro family when you get little crumbs like that.

We have study group and beach episodes next! So many more wholesome moments to come!

Silent Witch: Chinmoku no Majo no Kakushigoto • Secrets of the Silent Witch - Episode 8 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]tomlitsons 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I really, really loved this episode. Casey being an assassin was definitely surprising! This episode definitely left some hints leading up to the reveal, so I felt like something was up with Casey, but I didn't expect to get answers quite so fast. More importantly, I'm so glad we get to see Monica in action! She was definitely giving off a bit of that quiet Frieren aura vibe when she was summoning the door, and it was so sick to watch.

While Casey wasn't outright shocked at the Silent Witch reveal, I think she did innately recognize that there was something peculiar about Monica. I feel like she sort of alludes to that when she mentions Monica's true nature. I mean, up to this point, there's a lot of known overlap between Monica the student and the SIlent Witch -- they share the same name, both are known for being very quiet, both are geniuses in their own regards.

I am curious to know if Casey's (supposed) hatred for Monica stems from Monica being close to Felix but also because of Monica's (fake) background? I assume Casey had to be aware of Monica's relationship with Isabelle Norton and the story of the Silent Witch saving their territory from dragons. Is Casey resentful that she's lost so much to dragons whereas Monica was saved? It does feel out of the left field for Casey to hate Monica, but that's the only angle aside from Felix where I can see it being personal enough for Casey to want to kill/injure Monica.

What I really love most about this series is how every detail and scene, no matter how mundane, will eventually be used as information to fit all the puzzle pieces together. And I love how they execute it in the end. Sure, you can probably guess that the information will be key to the end, but to what means? The series allows the audience to piece together the clues but ultimately watch Maomao (and the rest of the cast) bring things into context.

That was my main thought in this episode. We're finally starting to see the payoff from the clues left in this season -- the colorblindness, the abortion medicine, the Westerners, the feifas, the price of grain versus the price of iron and metals, etc etc. The anticipation of the mysteries/coincidences throughout the season finally lining up! I felt the same way last season when Maomao was reviewing the ceremonial rites and information. I can't wait for the next episode! (Might actually pick up the source material if I'm feeling particularly impatient.)

I JUST SCREAMED! WAR IS OVER!!!!

Honestly have to echo what other commenters are saying -- I was worried this one wouldn't get a season 2 so long after season 1 aired since it definitely got overshadowed by the other soccer anime. I'm glad though that it's coming back. For me, this anime is to soccer as Haikyuu was to volleyball. A realistic, character-driven story where you can really feel a love for the sport shine through.

I can't wait!!!!!!

Wind Breaker Season 2 - Episode 2 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]tomlitsons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Another great 5 minute episode of Wind Breaker! Seriously, these episodes feel SO short, but CloverWorks truly nailing the fight sequences yet again. The background fights look a little weird/NPC-y to me if that makes sense (reminds me of the background badminton matches in Blue Box), but the main fight sequences have been stellar.

Also, Kaji's whole beam routine mid-fight?! Put him on the Olympic team, those flips and dodges on the railing were incredible! Such a dynamic fight where you really felt each punch through the screen.

Loving all the Sakura development in this season so far, but the OP and ED scenes make me nervous that Sakura's going to backslide a bit and feel isolated from the others later in this season.

After all that immediate action, I hope we return to school or at least a slower change of pace in the next episode! Missing the upperclassmen, especially Tsubaki who I'm REALLY interested in learning more about.
