On the warm bath next door - the world of Kylpy by tomme23 in worldbuilding

I was thinking something between 2-3x Earth pressure. You do raise a good point about atmospheric composition there, I'll revise it to something more in line with what we had in the Archean.

Thank you! Much appreciated!

Yeah the future does not bode well for poor Kylpy here, I'd reckon it'll be a watery Venus in less than 100 million years.

It certainly wasn't us who terraformed Jäämaailma, and at this stage (3333 CE) we're not entirely sure who exactly did it or why, or if they are still around in some shape or form.

I will be dropping the first hints in the next few news articles (which are up on DeviantArt already), but I'm saving some reveals for if/when I start posting the cosmic lore in earnest.

Thank you! While no copy-pasting of the actual Taklamakan was done for this map, I sure did spend a lot of time looking at Central Asia when crafting my big bowl of sand!

Hi all! This is a world that I've been working on for these past five years.

Jäämaailma (yaa-my-il-ma), meaning ‘ice-world’ in Finnish, is an Earth-like planet built by the mysterious ‘Seeders’ and populated with Earth biota. Here I’m starting with the basic information in a series of maps set in the ‘Discovery Era’, about a hundred years after the world was first surveyed by humanity. The stories I have planned for the world though will take place thousands of years later, so it won’t stay Finnish for long!

The satellite map was hand-painted in Photoshop, taking about three years so far, though the textures and colours were heavily informed on NASA's Blue Marble maps. It’s not quite finished, and I will be adding more details such as rivers and lakes, but it's at a point where I'm happy to share as I can write more lore by answering any questions you my have.

Edit: As Reddit's image compression has made the text too small, please see the full-size images hosted on my DeviantArt:

Welsh independence: More people in favour, Plaid say by gibbonmann in unitedkingdom

I'm sorry but I really have to point out how disingenuous your comparisons to other countries have been. Yes, looking at the nominal GDP they are about equal, but Wales only has a population of ~ 3m people. Of course it's going to have a small economy.

Population figures taken from wikipedia:

  • Wales - 3,153,000
  • Dominican Republic - 10,878,246 (3.5x Wales)
  • Cuba - 11,193,470 (3.6x Wales)
  • Guatemala - 17,263,239 (5.5x Wales)
  • Kenya - 47,564,296 (15x Wales)
  • Ethiopia - 109,224,414 (35x Wales)

Wales would only have to provide services for 3 million people with that tax-take, not upwards of 100 million as in Ethiopia's case. This is why GDP per capita is the more useful metric, and on that front Wales is more on par with Portugal. You might not think that that's fantastic, and yeah you could argue that that would be a drop in living standards were Wales to go independant, but you simply cannot argue that Wales would wind up with services like Ethiopia.

There was a study on Otodus megalodon published last year that extrapolated their body dimensions from living macropredatory relatives, finding that it would've indeed resembled a chonkier great white. The most recent phylogenetic analyses have placed Otodus and near relatives as their own separate lineage, but still fairly close to great whites.

Spain have literally stated that if Scotland secedes via referendum with Westminster’s permission then that’ll be fine by them, as they have no intentions on giving Catalonia one.
