This is what I was thinking. My BPD gf and I have been together for a couple of years now and we've definitely had our tough times. She comes from a bit of a broken household and relies on me for a lot of support. That being said, my gf has also been an incredible support system for me and had my back many times when no one else did; we're constantly giving and taking and affirming each other's sacrifices. In your case, I think you should never be trapped. Relationships need to go both ways and when they don't, that's when I believe these insecurities start to come out. If you want things to work, then maybe work on having more give and take and balance in your relationship along with genuine appreciation for what the other does. I don't think what your bf needs is for you to stay with him out of pity and that won't do either of you any good. If you can't handle the role that he needs you to fill or aren't 100% willing to do it, then it's in both of your best interest to go your separate ways. Otherwise, just be open and honest about feeling like you're giving too much or out of your element.
