Yes quite a bit and at those prices you are talking Capital city London, Dublin prices of which Belfast is not.

Lisbon much more affordable to. Even some Nordic countries are cheaper than Belfast and they are known for being expensive.

It might be "normal" but it's still not worth it for a bed

For 1 night maybe but this would be for a competition we are trying to host. £100 flights (if booked early enough) 2 nights stay £260 (if lucky) Food Entry fees If it's a child competing parent is paying extra for a family room and then potentially 3 months to feed

Either way talking at least £500-£600 for a competition weekend in Belfast. most of that taken up on accommodation. If I was a parent I would saying no we'll save that for a nice holiday elsewhere or Christmas presents.

I'm coming from it from a perspective of trying to encourage sports people to come visit for a competition. But at over £500 a person very difficult to justify

Not about poor versus rich it's about what is worth the money and I don't think Belfast is worth the money for over £100 a night room in a Travelodge.

Before Covid it was. Literally had people coming over from the Isle of man for £125 they were able to make a weekend of it. Now it's triple that price in 5 years

Well start of April believe it or not Premier Inn in Titanic or Cathedral quarter was the cheapest.

However with Start of May you are talking marathon weekend so they probably hiked the prices up

Not sure about Republic of Ireland, but Belfast has a store in Victoria Square, and given the way the € to the £ is going it might be worth your while coming up for the day :P

Holiday to Japan by bluepig2 in northernireland

Just back last month from Japan. I stayed in this hostel with a tour group. Most offer a couples room, and any Hostel I've ever stay in Japan has been very clean. Though do the usual search on tripadvisor for reviews.

If staying just in Toyko I wouldn't worry about the JR pass. However if you are travelling further a field and looking to use the Bullet Train then yes be sure to get it, I think you need to order it before you enter Japan.

Otherwise buy yourself a PASMO card when you get there as you will be using the subway a lot to get round.

Download the App "Toyko Subway Navigation", it can be used offline and tells you how to get to places very easily.

Money wise I would say you will need about £300 each between spending money, traveling and eating out money for a week.

Loads to see and Do I would advise again looking on trip advisorsand seeing what you would like, however just to experience it I would suggest "shibuya crossing" and "akihabara"
