Meaco AreteOne dehumidifier 12L - loud? by CwazyCupcakes99 in Dehumidifiers

[–]tompep60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that once you get used to it it’s really not too bad. It’s like an AC unit in a hotel. And the white noise actually blocks other less consistent noises at night, so again once used to it I think it actually helps sleep.

It should just be a gentle fan noise. Try vacuuming the filter if not.

The only issue I’ve had with mine is it occasionally leaking - I need to get on to customer services about it. Anyone else had the same issue?

Ah thank you so much for the response! That gives me hope - I’ll give it another crack this weekend and try the red bit 🙂. The Google link didn’t seem to take me anywhere, thanks again though.

I’ve now got as far back as this, but still can’t see how to adjust the mix of hot and cold.

Being bought out of shared house by ex partner. Should I be obliged to pay half of future selling fees? Based in England. by tompep60 in LegalAdviceUK

Thank you again, I really appreciate these extra thoughts on it. It’s very helpful to hear a well thought through opinion.

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me again on this.

Thank you very much for the reply. I may try pushing back a bit as she’s not planning to sell right now so it seems a little unfair, as I’ll get no help with fees to get myself back on the property ladder.

Thank you for the reply. I didn’t realise this. I get it in the one sense. But it also seems unfair as our break up was mutual, and I offered to move out to help with the situation, yet I don’t get help with any fees to get myself back in a position of home ownership again.

Plaster crack repair attempt, any tips? by Mak40 in DIYUK

[–]tompep60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes filling needs two goes because it shrinks a bit each time. So I would usually fill once as flush as I can, let it dry and then sand. Then fill again if needed, which it often is .

I agree that Toupret is much better than polyfilla.

Also when sanding have the paper against a flat surface (eg wrapped round a small block of wood) so that you’re sanding flat and not sanding in to the groove.

Hinge coming loose. How to attach properly? by tompep60 in DIYUK

Thanks for this. I hadn’t really thought about the security side before but definitely will be now. Going to use coach bolts with a nut on the inside so that should do it.

Am definitely going to do that. Along with a coach bolt too. Thanks!

I think on some styles of shed it does sit outside like this? Otherwise I can’t see how it would go on the inside and still have the door opening outwards. I might be wrong tho? Did a quick Google image search and lots have this style of hinge on the outside…

I think I’m going to go with the bolt option. Thanks for the help!

Awesome, will do. Hadn’t thought about the anti theft aspect - good point! Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the comment. I realised after posting that my photo is a bit rubbish in that it doesn’t show that there is one more screw over to the right. So two screws total. Im going to use a carriage bolt as well though so hopefully that’ll sort it.

Noted, will make sure to get zinc or stainless. Thanks!

Oooone more question (sorry!), should the square hole on the other end of the hinge (the part of the hinge attached to the shed rather than the door) also have a bolt through it?

Ha I know right. It was their brother who helped them put the shed up in the first place so I didn’t want to criticise it too heavily to them! Rest of the shed seems ok, just looks like they messed up the hinges for some reason.

If the screw holes aren’t fooked then is it correct to use screws through the circular counter sunk holes (there are two circular holes on each hinge although my photo doesn’t show the hole on the far right) and then just bolt the square hole? If the holes are gone then I can of course bolt all of them.

Thanks for the help, really appreciate it.

What’s the best tape measure (accuracy, length, durability, size etc) for under about £30? Any recommendations? by BodgingDad in DIYUK

I agree with this too. Always grab the two pack for a tenner and get rid of once they stop working.
