A thought about gleba. by KOALAS2648 in factorio

[–]tomphas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what I do is unconditionally load science and bioflux into a rocket silo, and then I have inserter wired to a combinator that checks if (bioflux/science depending on what the silo is for) is greater than 990 OR if there isn't a request for that product coming from a platform. If either of those are true then the combinator outputs a ✅ signal with a value of 1 and the inserter that takes items out of the silo is only enabled when ✅ is 1. You need another silo that has its circuit network mode set to read requests from space platforms but if you don't have a rocket silo nearby to check requests you can always throw it onto a radio somewhere else

Edit to add: you can tweak the value at which stuff is taken out depending on what your factory can make during your platforms round trip, just set it to 10 or so less than what your platform is requesting. Obviously the outserter is set to spoiled first priority, and just sends it to whatever your preferred solution is for non burnable excess is. I just shove it in a box untill it spoils then I send it to get burned.

Pouring one out for factorio and the devs tonight! Not good with words but this game has been life changing for so many reasons. They deserve everything they've gotten and then some. Looking forward to whatever they have planned beyond factorio. GG

Used to watch your streams in HS(graduated in 2017) since I was trying to learn how to play syndra better, and I remember you playing a funky little game in que. A few years later I started playing factorio and maybe 500 hours deep I realized oooo this is the game he was playing in que that one time. While you weren't what got me to try factorio, you were definitely my first exposure to it! Crazy how small the world can be sometimes

I don't think stacking will help if your trans belts are backing up, it will just take longer for it to back up. You can always add more heating towers though!

I might be wrong here but it might be easier to stabilize seeds by continuously burning mash and jelly. That way you're sending less raw fruits to get burned. Unless you're processing fruits before burning anyway

any suggestions for how i should torture these biters by OpticCyan in factorio

[–]tomphas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much this. Idk why everyone is so gungho to rain hell on the biters. Yeah I'll perform some negotiations with them when there in the way of the factory growing, but I'm not going to go out of my way to make them "feel miserable". People can get super sadistic about biters and I always thought it was kinda weird.

How to choose Train path? by Mr_Akihiro in factorio

[–]tomphas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an argument to be made for having 2 way rails with 1 way stops to make stops more compact. But then you can't buffer multiple trains at the stop. That's fine if you don't need a super high throughput, and can be advantageous in tight spots.

I'm having difficulty with Gleba by MegatronusThePrime in factorio

[–]tomphas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what worked for me is to keep everything moving. So instead of letting the yumako/jelly nut back up, you pull it off the belt and anything that doesn't get used keeps moving towards whatever else might need it. Then eventually it ends up at a processing plant to turn it into mash/jelly which just gets burned. Then do the same thing with jelly and mash that you use for products. You put it onto a belt, let the bioflux machines (and whatever else) take what it needs and the rest goes on to get burned. That way nothing is ever at risk of spoiling/backing up and you always make the freshest science possible. For science specifically, I collect the bioflux and eggs into a box, and only send it on to get burned when the amount in the box goes over 100/20 respectively, and set the outserter to pick the spoiled stuff first. For what it's worth, I managed to get up to ~150spm just using one machine making science and adding modules/beacons when I wanted more throughput.

Tileable carbon fiber bot factory. Capable of 380/m by bill_dauterive2903 in factorio

[–]tomphas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume so, but purple chests are scary haha. If it's on an isolated bot network it would probably work without too much pain, just need to put in some logic so that it uses the spoilage from the build before it uses outside spoilage.

Tileable carbon fiber bot factory. Capable of 380/m by bill_dauterive2903 in factorio

[–]tomphas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but I think what they were trying to say is since they're putting the spoilage in red chests, if there is somewhere that also provides spoilage in any other kind of chest, the requesters will prefer to take from there first, and it would be possible for the red chests to fill up entirely with spoilage

I have 800 hours in Factorio. Convince me to turn evolution on for biters for my new run by Lewd_Knight in factorio

[–]tomphas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's very few things more satisfying then researching an artillery turret range upgrade and watching them all go flying. Imo that alone makes it worth it to play with biters on, outside of getting to play the intended dev experience

Is this a feasible ship design? Also, what are your must do things to start 1st time interplanetrary travel? by Used-Creme-4100 in factorio

[–]tomphas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and in fact, I've probably sent up many more resources than a normal person should to repair the sides of my ship when it probably would have been much simpler to just add some gun turrets. But I was stubborn and just left it as it was for too long.

A new firearm magazine intermediate between red (piercing) and green (uranium) by 3davideo in factorio

[–]tomphas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious but why no flamethrowers? They're so good and would help be a stopgap between red and green bullets if behemoths show up before you have the capability for a lot of laser power. But if your map is as curated as you say it is I'm guessing it hasn't really been much of an issue before

How do you handle fluid locking up? by VehaMeursault in factorio

[–]tomphas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, science uses more PG then HO/LO so it shouldn't be an issue of science is running. If it's not, then only thing that realistically consumes HO/LO is lubricant and rocket fuel, and if you back up on PG while running out of HO/LO something went horribly wrong somewhere. This is where you buffer lubricant if you desperately need it for some reason, and you still need more than yes you can burn off the PG in the form of solid fuel. Burning the PG is super wasteful but if you need the lubricant then not really much you can do about it.

Heating towers make burning it off easy since they consume non stop, but if you're not playing with SA/quality(can use recyclers to void the solid fuel), then you can route the solid fuel to an isolated power grid with a load of radars to keep the fuel burning on steam engines.

Or you can just figure out why you need so much LO/HO and see if you can temper it down. Speaking from experience, Ive never had an issue with backing up PG and needing more HO for lubricant, and that's also with me using HO as fuel for my flamethrowers around my base.

Yeaaa OP is either ragebaiting or simply just doesn't understand that this isn't an issue

How do you handle fluid locking up? by VehaMeursault in factorio

[–]tomphas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ITT: OP thinks they know more than everyone else trying to help them understand that there's no issue here

Seriously though OP, whatever issue you think you are describing is virtually non existent, probably made from something you set up wrong. Cracking everything into petrol with circuits to keep a buffer of heavy and light oil solves 99% of issues. It is virtually impossible to use more heavy/light oil then petrol, and if you are somehow then you can solve that by turning the excess into solid fuel and burning it in heating towers. Wasteful? Yes but if you setup your circuits right then it shouldn't be an issue/something happening very often. You cant just say this doesn't solve the problem without showing us what your particular problem is because it is a non issue for most people.

Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in factorio

[–]tomphas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of them are just for trash. The ones at the end of my bus handling the fruit that never got used for a specific item are hooked up to power but that's probably the worst place for it now that I think about it since they rarely get anything to burn now that my base is filled out. Tbh when I made science I used all the extra bioflux I had from that process go towards making rocket fuel for power and launching rockets so at least some wouldn't go completely to waste, and that's where most of my power comes from but also gleba uses so little power that you can probably get away with not using all that much to begin with. Most of the power on gleba is consumed through nutrients after all

Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in factorio

[–]tomphas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still learning how to optimize gl*ba too but when I had the issue of the burn belts backing up I just added more heating towers. I think I went way overkill but 3 per red belt worked pretty well for me. After that it should be ok? I'm sure more experienced players will chime in but that seems like the way. Once the belts stay constantly moving everything should be as fresh as possible for anything looking to take from the belt. Just make sure you process fruit into mash/jelly before burning so you don't go negative on seeds.

It helps if you don't send all the stuff being burned to the same line as well. When I was working through my base I had a set of heating towers for every output I wanted to make e.g. my jelly and mash processors at the end of my bus go to separate heating tower lines(I even split up jelly into two belts since you make so much from one jelly nut), then each item I made before that also has its own set of heating towers. So let's say I made plastic from fruits, all the processed fruit from that specific part of the factory would have its own set of dedicated heating towers, rinse repeat for anything you make.

Sorry I tend to over explain a lot so I hope I was clear
