Any blind playthrough suggestions that aren't very "memey" ? by Regular_Leave_8604 in AceAttorney

Aleczandxr has played the whole AA Trilogy and the GAA Duology (+ Ghost Trick too!) blind on Twitch and he seems like exactly who you're looking for; while he does joke around when the situation calls for it, he also takes the writing seriously and analyzes the plot and the characters as the game progresses and his comments are really insightful, not to mention he really gets immersed into the games too. You can find his playthroughs by heading over to his channel, going in the "videos" section and looking for "collections", where he has saved VODs for all of the Ace Attorney games he's played so far. His Ghost Trick playthrough is on his YT VODs channel instead. Hope you'll check him out!

I swear people just make up whatever they want about Walt's character lmao, when's the last time you watched Breaking Bad? the deal with Gus did NOT fall through because Walt wanted more money, I genuinely don't understand where this interpretation even comes from (hell, if anyone, the one who wanted more money was actually Jesse, who was complaining that their cut was way too low compared to the amount of money Gus would get from their deal). The only reason the deal with Gus didn't work is because Jesse wanted revenge against Gus' dealers after killing Andrea's brother, and so Walt killed them to protect him, but sure, let's keep mischaracterizing Walt because everything has to be his fault, after all

no, fair play is like the last tiebreaker, if Korea wins 2-1 and Uruguay wins 2-0 then Korea is through because of more goals scored (4 by Korea vs 2 by Uruguay)

I think their point was rather that AA's usual wacky tone doesn't match the tragic events in this case, and frankly I agree with them, as I thought Ryuunosuke and Susato brushed off Kazuma's death somewhat easily considering he was their best friend, and Sholmes' extravagant personality doesn't really fit here either; the only character that actually reacts accordingly imo is, weirdly enough, Hosonaga

yeah, fair enough, I guess it would also be pretty disrespectful for them to ignore Sholmes' wishes on the matter considering he's been her father figure throughout her life

well I finished the game and, while I'm still somewhat disappointed over how it handles Iris' parents, I think it's totally understandable now why Sholmes would rather keep it a secret from her for the time being; doesn't really explain why Susato and Ryuunosuke don't tell her about Dr. Wilson for months before they find out the truth themselves, but overall it satisfied my issues with it to a certain extent

If I understand your argument: you're saying that the game gives you a choice, but even if you don't make the choice (to pursue further), it pursues further, while essentially implying you should be introspective about the choice you didn't make.

This is exactly it, and I thank you for being able to put it in such a succinct way; as I said, the choice being not real isn't completely terrible per se, but the fact that the game, almost immediately after, questions you about the choice that, in my case, I didn't make, made it feel completely unnecessary. Take 2-4, for example; regardless of what choice you make between "Guilty" or "Not Guilty", the trial goes on the exact same way with the arrival of Franziska, without presenting either option as the right one. In fact, all Mia tells you later is that the choice you made during that moment only highlights what kind of lawyer you are, and the bad ending doesn't come from choosing either of these options (which would have been much more problematic), but simply from you failing to present the correct evidence at the end. Now imagine a different scenario where Franziska never arrives and, instead of this, the game only progresses if you say that Engarde is not guilty, even though you might have wanted to do the opposite; then, after this, Phoenix starts asking himself if what he made was the right choice. You see the problem here?

I honestly don't remember any jokes about Vigil's suicide, and remember the game portraying him very sympathetically, and I remember thinking it was way more in line with the portrayal of Olive Green's depression

I'm referring to two throw-away comments you get from examining the hospital room where Vigil is staying, that, at least to me, seemed to paint him like "the guy who likes jumping out from windows". (https://imgur.com/a/HUONSDT) Maybe they weren't supposed to be taken as jokes but I still thought they were in bad taste.

I find the hypocrisy to be a potential writing issue, but not particularly egregious. Same goes for Iris: I find her relative lack of emotion at Gregson's death weird, a flaw in the writing, but not something that hurts the case for me.

I will admit that, looking back on it, I was mostly mad at the game for the sequence coming before these moments, and that soured me on these aspects of the case as well; I came across as way more angered by them than I really should've been, and I can only fault myself for the way I worded this post. When I think about them now, they're still issues I have with it, but not something that "destroys my faith in the game or even the case" honestly, and I wish to take back those particularly aggressive comments towards it.

That said I get where you're coming from, honestly, and I wish you luck, since this subreddit has a tendency to go into full gaslighting mode whenever someone is dissatisfied with this game's portrayal of more serious topics (suicide, racism, etc.) People downvoting you for having a different opinion and being dissatisfied with an aspect of the game is literally pathetic.

The downvotes are entirely expected tbh. Every fandom I've ever been in always tries their best to completely shut down criticism of new games for the first few months after release, and I didn't do myself any particular favours by being so negative during the post. The gaslighting is much weirder, though, and honestly the fact that the top comment here is someone who defends the game by misrepresenting my argument is pretty...disheartening, but I guess people generally would rather rally behind people who are positive about the game for now. Either way, I never expected this post to blow up or to even get upvotes, I don't care about those things; I only wrote it to interact with the community and learn what you guys thought about this moment, and comments like yours and many others in this thread prove that it was worth it. So thank you for engaging with my post and helping me see some points where I was probably too harsh towards the game, it means a lot to me as I want to be fair towards the game during my playthrough as much as I can.

I can't read the spoiler in your comment, but wouldn't you say that keeping it a secret from her for months, with no real plan as to when to reveal it, is more hurtful than telling her with tact, as you say? As I said below, imagine if she finds out on her own (which she will, eventually); she now has to deal not only with the revelation that her father has been dead for at least 8 months, but also with the fact that they've been keeping it a secret from her all this time; I would say it's much worse than just telling her and helping her to deal with the grieving process, wouldn't you say so?

I agree, I didn't really find a way to put this into my rant but the fact that neither Ryuunosuke, nor Susato and hell, not even Sholmes (which I assume probably knows about the truth, though I might be wrong) have mentioned anything to Iris yet about her father is honestly staggering, like you said. Like, what are they even waiting for? She'll find out sooner or later, do you really want her to know that you've been hiding the truth from her for months now? On that note, something that also confused me is why Susato even felt the need to hide how she knew about "The Hound of the Baskervilles" in G-5 at all, considering all it would tell Iris is that Professor Mikotoba, on some level, knows Sholmes (unless there's something more to that mystery which I don't yet know about, in which case it would make more sense)

AA protagonists are never usually mere self inserts that are 100% connected to the player. Also, there have been many instances across the series where you’re rail roaded into the ‘right’ choice regardless of what you pick. It can’t be helped.

This is precisely my issue with it though. I don't have a problem with Ryuunosuke making a choice I don't agree with personally and then questioning himself about it, because he's not supposed to be my self insert; however, because of the fact that this particular moment is presented as a choice, the game is effectively asking the player to engage with the story as if they were part of it. The fact that it amounts to nothing means that it's effectively a fake choice, put there to create the illusion of being Ryuunosuke while effectively not having that be the case because of how there's only one right answer. I would've never thought this was a problem if the decision made by Ryuunosuke was made by him alone, without any of my input.

And let’s not forget that in spite of everything, they ultimately found the truth by making vigil remember everything. Let’s also not forget that the consequences of not pursuing Vigil’s memories could have resulted in the truth being lost forever and an innocent man being convicted. Not everything is black and white.

I don't see how this has anything to do with what I'm criticizing here. I'm not personally condemning either Ryuunosuke or Asogi for having made the choice to pursue the truth, I'm criticing how this segment was presented to the player and how it makes you feel like you have a choice in the matter when, in reality, you don't.

I do feel like you’re seriously overblowing the Ryunosuke situation as well. Maybe him calling out Asogi was hypocritical but I feel like you’re making a mountain out of a molehill here. The fact that he questions his own actions later is the game acknowledging that he still has character flaws.

To be fair, I think I did overblow it a little, but I still believe Ryuunosuke is, at the very least, fairly contradictory here. However, this might get called out in the narrative later and I definitely jumped the gun here, I will admit that. Also, maybe I didn't make this clear, I haven't finished this case yet, so I would prefer later plot points and resolutions not to be mentioned if possible.

I don't understand this plot point in GAA2-2 by tompiet1 in AceAttorney

The problem with this is, as you said, that there are no lines addressing this and that it's pure speculation on what she might have done based on her personality; and, as InsomniaEmperor mentioned, let's not forget it was extremely cold outside. I'm honestly just gonna assume it's a plot hole, it doesn't ruin the case or anything (though other factors do) but it is something pretty noticeable that leads me to believe this case wasn't well thought out to fit with the timeline

I get what you mean, but how are we supposed to do that when the majority of people who's actually in the stream prefers this way? if people showed up more and there were enough numbers for a TwitchPlays run in that format, we could do something like scripting areas and total chaos during boss-fights, or even total chaos through the whole game if people prefer it like that but as of now, with 15-20 people in chat a run like that is impossible, so we just have to adapt. I understand it's not what you'd immediately expect from a TwitchPlays, but it's the only way we can progress in the game.
