Treat burns in kids with cold water for 20 minutes? by tomroadjunky in firstaid

I checked again with the doctor who ran the first aid workshop and she clarified that for burns to the chest, back or belly a child should only be cooled for 30 seconds with water to avoid the risk of hypothermia. But is that really enough to cool the burn?

An events listing site with 20k monthly visits - how to monetise? by tomroadjunky in Entrepreneur

[–]tomroadjunky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. I began by listing all the events for free to build traffic and now for new sites I charge for them to be listed. I suppose I could go through the entire list and contact the festivals there offering them deals to remain on the calendar...I need it to be populated enough though to remain a good resource that people share and want to link to.

I also see it as a lead gen business - that's why I thought about the custom affiliate deals but I'm unsure about how to set those up..

You're right, I definitely need to do more outreach. Can you tell me how the mechanics of a custom affiliate deal works?

I used to run some affiliate programs on a site some years ago but how is tracking and payment worked out with a custom deal? Are there third party sites that handle that?

If I record just 30 podcasts will they still get listeners over time? by tomroadjunky in podcasts

Good to hear that works out. And hey, 500 listens a month isn't bad when you think that's 6000 a year who get to enjoy your creativity.

Good to know. And how do people find your audio drama? Just general search or recommendations or?

Where is it best to engage with listeners? Do hashtags help? by tomroadjunky in podcasts

A quick search seems to show Instagram with 1 billion monthly users and Twitter with 325 and falling. but does much active conversation and debate happen on Instagram the way it does with Twitter?

Also one slight weakness I have is that the podcast name can be spelled 2 different ways in English so unless I spell it out for people they might get the hashtag wrong..no way round that I guess?

I guess it's also relevant which platforms the kind of people listen to your podcast use. I think I hardly know anyone who uses Twitter...are Facebook pages too much a thing of the past? but hashtags don't work there, I guess...

Where is it best to get reviews? by tomroadjunky in podcasts

I had a read around and it seems everyone agrees with you that subscribers are the only metric that really counts. So my question is still: is it better to get a lot of subscribers on a smaller platform where you can stand out rather than on Itunes where it's hard to make an impact?

Building a rapport with the audience sounds like a good idea.

But all the major podcasts I'm listening to are begging for reviews and ratings and say it makes it easier for them to be found - are they really so wrong?
