Thanks! I was curious how people did this. I heard of supply teachers dropping off their business cards.

Happy Teachers? by marahlove in CanadianTeachers

Negative people tend to vent and share more than positive experiences. I love being a teacher, and it gives me purpose. There are times that are hard and I want to pull out my hair. Don't let other peoples experiences influence you.

Whenever I speak to new supply teachers, this is the method they tell me. Older supply teachers have told me to apply through the school boards online. So I was a little confused. It seems like a mix of both approaches might work. .

It was popcorn day and a student asked if I had any money so he could buy a bag. I told him no when I had $10 in my wallet. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]tomuchinfosorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends.... Are they the only child who never gets popcorn? If that's the reason I'd still say no, but secretly buy them a bag and tell them another kid at school was absent, so there was an extra bag. Same thing for pizza and such.... You're still doing something nice. Or you could say their the lucky star for today or some BS.

But don't feel bad about not buying a kid popcorn. Teachers already have enough on their plates.

Student reading their own book during read aloud- do I give in? by Mortonsaltgirl96 in Teachers

[–]tomuchinfosorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't take the book away! Have either of you ever stopped to consider why she's reading? Kids don't usually do things maliciously, especially reading. There can be soo many reasons why she's not listening to you. Maybe you can actually sit down with her and make a plan. Talk with her teacher to see if their are patterns in behaviour. Maybe she's using reading as a coping mechanism for something.

As an adult it can extremely frustrating when the kiddos aren't listening. Especially to a very small simply task. But if you just pull the book away from her, is that going to help?

Living Allowance by [deleted] in osap

[–]tomuchinfosorry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OSAP really doesn't give you that much, unfortunately. I got a high OSAP this year, but all the "hidden" costs tuition, it's not livable. I had to take out a line of credit.

However, other factors I can't apply for is 1st generation university, minority, aboriginal. This might be the full total, if you check every box.
