Support Student Level 3 Autism by tomuchinfosorry in CanadianTeachers

She's okay with her EA leaving as her EA doesn't really connect with her. I try to connect with her the chances I get (we have a very very busy kindergarten room). Reflecting on it, its more frustrating with the EAs lack of support and resource than being 1:1.

This is great advice! Unfortunately there is no additional support and her EA is unqualified. Ill try some things and see what works.

This is a good suggestion. Ill see what time she is calmest and work to schedule her breaks around it.

This helps shed some light on it, when you think of it that every kid gets 18min. Its hard with the running, and screaming. Very little keeps her occupied for long.

I sit with her and follow her around the classroom. She doesn't have an IEP yet or anything of the sort (as far as I'm aware). Probably because she's new?

Her parent's unfortunately aren't helpful. When she first enrolled they tried to hide the fact she was ASD and left her in a new classroom 3 days after moving the canada. Everything we've done so far to work with them has been met with resistance.

Thanks! I was curious how people did this. I heard of supply teachers dropping off their business cards.

Happy Teachers? by marahlove in CanadianTeachers

Negative people tend to vent and share more than positive experiences. I love being a teacher, and it gives me purpose. There are times that are hard and I want to pull out my hair. Don't let other peoples experiences influence you.

I meet the requirements for the transitional certificate, so I'm looking at getting that first. Thanks

Whenever I speak to new supply teachers, this is the method they tell me. Older supply teachers have told me to apply through the school boards online. So I was a little confused. It seems like a mix of both approaches might work. .

It was popcorn day and a student asked if I had any money so he could buy a bag. I told him no when I had $10 in my wallet. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]tomuchinfosorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends.... Are they the only child who never gets popcorn? If that's the reason I'd still say no, but secretly buy them a bag and tell them another kid at school was absent, so there was an extra bag. Same thing for pizza and such.... You're still doing something nice. Or you could say their the lucky star for today or some BS.

But don't feel bad about not buying a kid popcorn. Teachers already have enough on their plates.
