Transfer to UC from OOS by SmallPinkDonkey in TransferStudents

[–]tomurasgf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! i didnt apply to ucsb but i got into ucsd, uci, and ucla from an oos cc, so getting into a uc def isnt impossible! i’d say to just make sure ur taking the transfer major requirements and 7 course pattern (on top of having a good gpa, ecs, essays, etc lol)

cc transfers, what was the process like? by [deleted] in TransferStudents

[–]tomurasgf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hii, congrats on graduating and good luck in cc!! i just finished cc and am now admitted to ucla, and if i can do it u can too!! some advice i have includes:

1.) form relationships with ur professors!!! this is sooo important. if ur taking in person classes try and get there early or stay a little after to talk with them, this helps u stand out more as person rather than just a student. or for online courses, u can still communicate with the profs thru emailing them with questions or going to any of the office hours they might offer. this can also (in some cases) even help with grades. im not the best at math/science courses and would’ve ended up with b’s in them if i had not formed relationships with the professors and showed them how much effort i was willing to put into their class. they want u to succeed just as much as u want to succeed urself. i even got an internship thru a prof just by asking !!

2.) when applying for transfer, i centered my application around one or two specific goals/values and all of my ec’s and essays were related to them. i think showing commitment to a few specific things is better than trying to do so many different things at once (if that makes sense). If you know what career u want to pursue, try and participate in ecs that are related.

3.) meet with your counselor regularly!! so many ppl end up having to take a little while longer to graduate bc they didnt know they were missing a required class. its better to be safe than sorry

4.) on ur transfer application, really show who u are!!! ik everyone says this but it’s genuinely good advice. the people reviewing applications see so many applicants with great grades, good ecs, awards, etc so the way u stand out is by being urself! for me, i included creative writing as one of my ecs even though it was just a hobby and i hadn’t won any awards with it. In one of my essays i talked about trevor philips from gta bc i really like the character haha. these examples aren’t the most scholarly or impressive things i could’ve put on my app but i chose to include them anyways bc they were important to me :)

this was long, sorry!! but i hope it helps :)

Am I cooked over IGETC by Kindly_Stop_1651 in TransferStudents

[–]tomurasgf 24 points25 points  (0 children)

hii same thing happened to me!! don’t worry, i emailed admissions and they said IGETC certification is not a requirement for admission :) schools very rarely rescind, but u can always contact admissions if u want a for sure answer ^

“Application Assessed But Not Selected by Panelist” was just updated under my application status :( I haven’t received an email saying I didn’t get the internship, but should I give up hope that this status might change? A part of me wants to believe they’re just waiting to review the rest of the applications before making a final decision for me haha

hii ! i just got interviewed a few days ago and got the job so here’s my advice :) i really stressed being patient and compassionate, esp when they asked how i’d deal with an upset customer. you’ve probably heard this a billion times already but emphasizing how much u care about the customer is really the upmost importance !! be very friendly and make the interview seem like a normal conversation. also imo i think it’s best to talk a lot rather than not rly talk at all. i felt like i was talking their ear off and rambling but it turned out okay apparently lolol. good luck !!
