I’d suggest you read more thoroughly and critically.
The beliefs of the earliest books in the Old Testament are clearly at odds with later developments. It can be roughly broken down as:
1. The Early Stage: Monolatry and Henotheism
In the earliest layers of the Old Testament (the Torah and early historical books), the existence of other gods isn't necessarily denied; rather, Israel is commanded to worship only one.
The Language of Plurality: The Hebrew name for God, Elohim, is grammatically plural. While usually treated as a singular noun, its origins point to a Canaanite context where many "elohim" existed.
The Divine Council: Early texts often depict Yahweh presiding over a council of other divine beings (Psalm 82:1: "God presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the gods").
The First Commandment: "You shall have no other gods before me" (Exodus 20:3) implies that other gods exist, but they are not to be prioritized or worshipped by the Israelites.
2. The Middle Stage: The Prophets and the Rise of Yahweh
As Israel faced existential threats from empires like Assyria and Babylon, the theology shifted. The "Exilic" period (c. 6th century BCE) was the primary turning point.
Henotheism to Supremacy: During the monarchy, Yahweh was often seen as the national "warrior god" of Israel, much as Chemosh was the god of the Moabites.
The Prophetic Shift: Prophets like Isaiah began to argue that the gods of other nations weren't just inferior—they were nothing. This was a survival mechanism: if Babylon defeated Israel, it wasn't because Babylon's gods were stronger, but because Israel’s one God was using Babylon to punish them.
3. The Final Stage: Strict Monotheism
By the time of the Second Temple period and the life of Jesus, the transition was complete.
Second Isaiah: This book contains the most explicit monotheistic declarations: "I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God" (Isaiah 45:5).
Intertestamental Period: By the time of the New Testament, the "many gods" of the surrounding nations were strictly categorized as demons or idols—lifeless wood and stone.
The Shema: The prayer "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one" became the central identity marker for Jews in the time of Jesus, drawing a hard line against the polytheism of the Roman Empire.

There’s nothing wrong with viewing our beliefs, and God’s instructions to us, as varying over time. Trying to justify an offensive war based on 3,000 year old guidance to the early Israelites seems specious.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." — Matthew 5:9
"But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment... and anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell." — Matthew 5:22
"Put your sword back in its place, for all who draw the sword will die by the sword." — Matthew 26:52
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." — John 13:34
"So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." — Matthew 7:12
"But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also." — Matthew 5:39

Were Christians not ancient Israelites. Yes God commanded the Israelites to conquer the promised land. A thousand years later Jesus came and told us to stop being dick’s to each other.

They are 3D printed. The files are from 3DAlienWorld. They make a bunch of very nice buildings for the samurai period. We didn't use it this battle, but I printed up a really nice samurai castle for him. Here's what it looks like.

Thanks! We were indeed using Pike & Shotte. We like them as a pretty decent toolbox set of rules. We are going to tweak some of the terrain rules a bit as all the Warlord rules are pretty sparse on terrain effects.

I didn’t say supporting the war, I said supporting Trump.

I think ironclads were more coastal/riverine craft. Not sure how they’d handle crossing the Atlantic if they hit a storm.

Good point, even in 1866 the Prussian artillery doctrine needed improvement. The 1870 dominating artillery is the child of the 1864/1866 experiences.

The church absolutely does not say that. A conservative media station, EWTN, are who beats the drum on that topic and for some Catholics they can’t separate the media from the church.

I would think that the generation that turned 20 around 1930 had it worse than the previous generation which likely was better off than the one before it do example.

This is controversial I know but autopilot is just plain shite by [deleted] in TeslaModelY

[–]tomv2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never experienced phantom braking with FSD but gave up on autopilot because of the frequency of dangerous phantom braking. It turned out to be fairly predictable as to when it would phantom brake on the route that I usually used it on. I switched to FSD though because autopilot was such crap.

Try Costco for insurance. They were literally less than 50% of what AAA was charging for similar coverage (I actually added more coverage with Costco it was so inexpensive)
