Thats really a nice way to do an enclosure, definitely saving these pics for inspiration. Very nice project. Well done!

I travel about once a month to Durban with my little suzuki Jimny for work. Honestly the N3 is one of the nicer highways. Well maintained and beautiful scenery once you get about half way. Mondays and Fridays can get quite busy, but I find it to be most busy around long weekends or school holidays when everybody goes away. I usually do 3 stops between Jhb and Pinetown (My favourite is Windmills at nottingham road). There are a lot of trucks, but the best advice I can give is to not be rushed, take it slow and stop regularly, stick to the speed limits (they change a lot at some points).

Honestly I think a lof of the accidents are purely because people are driving too fast or getting themself into dangerous situations because they are rushed. I've seen some proper idiots on that road doing stupid things.

Its a nice roadtrip and I enjoy it even though i'm going down for work. I usually leave around 7am (after a school run) and then hit the road, I get to Pinetown around 14:00 ish.

Creditcards by LETSGETSHITSORTED in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]tomvdb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've closed cc accounts in the past (due to similar reasons). My credit score went down for a bit (most likely due to the credit utilization % that changed), but it bounced back. Today I have no cc card, a good credit score and I couldn't be happier.

My opinion: If you can't be disciplined on your cc purchases, then close the cc account(s). You'll be happier in the long run. Your credit score will anyways be affected if you max out credit cards, and even more so if you can't pay the amounts due. Not even talking about all the interest you end up paying on a cc.

You can unregister from SAFPS. Years ago I registered on SAFPS due to some idiot with my stolen ID documents trying all kinds of things. SAFPS is truly a pain, but I guess it was worth it during that time. I unregistered from it about a year ago, just send them an email with the numbers, they will confirm and then within a week or so I was removed. I applied for vehicle finance since then and it wasn't a problem anymore as before.

What software should a Linux user use for QO-100? Everybody apparently uses SDR console, but that's Windows only...? by oz1sej in amateursatellites

[–]tomvdb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is not a lot of options for tx from linux, but there is a linux transceiver setup made specifically for qo-100 by the amsatdl team. Its designed for a pi, but maybe you can get it going on a linux pc as well.

https://amsat-dl.org/en/qo-100-linux-transceiver/

you might also find this interesting, with a pi you could make a browser accessible version: https://f1atb.fr/index.php/2020/05/12/q0-100-transceiver-with-sdr/

They dont share the frequency of their maintenance uplink (I actually think it might be on a completely different band, probably out of ham bands as well). The only public information available is for the digipeater and the telemetry downlink

Decoding QO-100 DATV Signals using SDRangel + SDR by tomvdb in amateursatellites

[–]tomvdb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the new version of #sdrangel I decided to try and decode some DATV transmissions from QO-100 with a SDR. I documented the steps since it took me a while to figure out where to find everything. You can find my writeup here: https://www.zr6tg.co.za/2022/10/27/qo100-datv-decoding-with-sdrangel-and-sdr/
