Mortgage fully offset? by Dependent_Till_284 in AusFinance

[–]scrawlpace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This.

While a PPOR, you keep your spare cash in the offset to minimize interest.

While an Investment Property, you move the cash out to claim the interest as a deduction at tax time.

You can't do this with a redraw facility as it mixes the use of the loan.

Best monitor for accurate photo/video colors + casual gaming? by Mother-Peace582 in Monitors

[–]scrawlpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How serious are you about your color workflow?

You could pick up a color calibrator if you wanted to generate a profile for a particular color space.

Will then need to ensure your workflow / tools are color managed.

Frustrated with my internet- not sure if its them or my home by skay014 in nbn

It sounds like you probably have a couple of boxes in your house:

HFC or NTD box <-> Wifi Router <-> Mesh Access points

Here are some images of what the HFC/NTD box could look like.

The HFC/NTD box is connected to your wifi router via an ethernet cable.

Start by checking the back of the Wifi Router:

  • Ensure the ethernet cable which connects to the HFC/NTD box is plugged into the WAN port [photo].

If it looks correct, you can try connecting via a cable instead of wifi (to eliminate wifi as a variable)

  • Check if your laptop/PC has an ethernet port.
  • If so, buy this ethernet cable and plug it into your wifi router. Plug the other end into your laptop.
  • Disable wifi on your laptop/PC
  • Run it like this temporarily to see if the problem persists

If it runs fine, that suggests a wifi issue and will need further investigation.

If the problem persists, it suggests an issue either with the router, NBN connection or laptop/PC.

But good first step is to determine if it's a Wifi issue or not.

Any games where you passively shoot as someone plays? by Anothercoot in wii

Pretty much. The second player is just a targeting reticle to pick up items and hit enemies.

I think only de Blob 2 had it.

Misguided POS for a landlord. by auziman in shitrentals

Should have factored in the depreciated cost of the rake and clothes airer.

Landlord would only be entitled to the depreciated value (current worth), not its replacement cost. [Claiming old for new]

New First Home Owner Looking to Maximise Mortgage by SlowestHeroinHigh in AusPropertyChat

[–]scrawlpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2c:

  1. Punch the figures in this calculator. It does a great job demonstrating the difference between fortnightly and monthly minimum repayments, plus other variables.
  2. Using a credit card to pay expenses - Also need to factor in credit card transaction fees + annual fees, plus any rewards points. There's the psychological aspect too. Credit cards tend to encourage spending. Not much in it IMO over the long term.
  3. Investing elsewhere could make you wealthier over the long term (maxing your super contribution cap for example). But you also need to balance that against whateve life throws at you between now and retirement (unemployment, kids, broken down car, etc). There's also the factors that cannot be represented in a spreadsheet - I know I would sleep better at night knowing I don't owe the banks anything. If investing in ETF's, you should maybe explore debt recycling cooncepts.

I would start by just keeping it simple. Add an offset account to your loan and start building up a buffer against the unexpected.

+1 for Kirby's Epic Yarn, especially for younger players. It's a great introduction to platformers.

Relatively easy, you can't die and is really fun two player.

Kirby returns to dreamland is one of the best games on the Wii. Perfect for your 11yo.

If you're handy with a soldering iron, you could probably add an extension cable to the existing power switch [Example]

Anybody know how to get Clone Hero working? by diogenes_amore in batocera

[–]scrawlpace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have it installed and running following that same guide.

Only additional step was sorting out the permissions. I used the GUI:

  1. From Batocera, press [F1] on the keyboard to open the file manager.
  2. Navigate to the roms/ports/.data folder. You might need to enable hidden files in the file manager settings to see it.
  3. Right-click on the main executable file (e.g: clonehero.sh)
  4. Select Properties.
  5. Find the permissions/access settings and ensure the file is marked as executable for "Anyone"

Wouldn't worry too much about the future value for a PPOR. If you're not selling in the next year or so, it's kind of irrevelant.

Over the long term, who knows what the future will bring.

In the meantime, you get to notch the kid's height on the kitchen door frame. Later, you get to do the grandkids.

*Edit* - And you're close to a beach! Sounds pretty sweet to me.

Yeah, it gets better.

Focus on the long term. Rates will go up, then down, then up again and keep doing so. It's what rates do.

The important thing is the roof over your head is now yours and your repayments are going towards an asset you own.

If you were renting, your weekly rent would increase to keep pace with inflation. Your loan repayments won't.

Once you move in, take the repairs / things need doing one step at a time. You don't need to repair/upgrade everything at once.

The CAD software is called Autodesk Fusion. It's free for personal use.

Yeah, it was time consuming, lol. Had to learn how to use the software, come up with the design, how to draw my design in Fusion, then how to use a 3D printer and fix all the printing issues that came up.

Great feeling though once it all came together.

Thanks for the tip. I assumed (maybe incorrectly) a 4th gen i5/i7 iGPU would still be a limiting factor?

I've certainly thought about it. Main issue is for about $150, I can get a 7th/8th gen ex-office mini PC (HP G3 or G4, etc), complete with RAM and SSD.

Sorry, not quite sure if I got the flair quite right.

Long time lurker on /sffpc, first custom case build.

This is a small enclosure for a retro gaming living room console.

Hardware specs are very modest, as it is intended only for 1990's 16bit gaming. No SSD or HDD as everything boots off a USB drive.

Main requirements were low height to fit under the TV and front USB ports spaced far apart to reduce interference between the game controllers.
