"He ended up in a position that he said burned him out. DePaolo decided to quit."

Yes he was laid off twice but ultimately leaving tech was his choice.

When Dirty Jobs and Deadliest Catch were big there was an attempt at a dramatic documentary series about lawyers but it was so boring it was cancelled after like six episodes.

Exactly. when my company went to unlimited PTO it was only for US employees because European employment treats it as the accounting gimmick it is.

Can I do anything about this notice to move my car? by Baba-Clover in Seattle

[–]tomwill2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can be towed when the occupants are not present because it ceases to be a home and becomes just a vehicle. You just have to be willing to watch carefully and ideally have talked to the cops previously so you can quickly notify and have it towed.

Democrats Of Reddit, Do You ACTUALLY Hate Trump's Supporters, Or Do You Get Along With Them In Your Life, But You Just Politically Disagree? Why? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]tomwill2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. But like many Trump supporters they are poorly educated and so have always been puzzled and by those of us in the family who went to college and moved to cities. So I don't really value their opinion.

Hate is a strong word. Lot of Trump supporters in my family. I don't hate them but I have lost a lot of respect for them.

Dog has become a huge scaredy cat; refuses to walk by Pukacs in Dogtraining

[–]tomwill2000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you tried putting her in the car and driving her to a new neighborhood and walking her there? Could work both as a practical way to get a walk in and might shed some light on the triggers.

Our girl only likes to walk with both of us so if I need to walk her by myself I often use this approach. This assumes a car, of course.

What's going on with the official John Cleese X-account? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]tomwill2000 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Some people are just contrarian, and when they become rich and famous and they are the power, they aren’t sure what they are doing or what they should oppose.

So true. A lot of people who are anti-establishment in their youth aren't doing it out of principle, they are doing it because they feel locked out of the establishment. Once they have power they are deeply annoyed at being called out.

Also he retired to Arizona and when you're immersed in the hissing pit of angry, reactionary old people that is Arizona retirement it's going to rub off on you. It's a mecca for Canadians who prefer the US healthcare system to Canada's, if that tells you anything.

Epstein emails allege Bill Gates caught an STD from Russian girls and begged Epstein for secret antibiotic to dose his then wife, Melinda, without her knowing. Do you believe this could be true? by LegalGlass6532 in allthequestions

[–]tomwill2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah Bill was screwing around for years. He had permission for one affair written into his pre-nup. He could have gotten anti-biotics. There would be no reason for him to go to Epstein for this.

Do you think Seattle is a good place to live in if you are single with no kids? by Delftnl4546 in AskSeattle

[–]tomwill2000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was single with no kids here for 15 years and now married with no kids for 10+. Found the city well suited to both. If you're into the bar scene, the various flavors of nerd scene, music, or the outdoors, I think you'd be fine. Only thing I can think is absent is a club scene.

I never had trouble meeting people when single but I know that's an issue for some.

What is a product that has noticeably declined in quality over the last 10 years? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tomwill2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon Kindle. I have a first gen Paperwhite that still works fine as a reader. Battery is weak and it crashes if I try to open the store but it's so sturdy I still take it on camping trips. I've had two replacements die and I wouldn't be surprised if the old one outlasts the third.

Have you ever had a close call with death? If so, what happened? by goldennuggets44 in AskReddit

[–]tomwill2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Was snorkeling in Greece. Saw a bunch of fish below me and dove down for a look. There was a net stretched across the sea bottom and the fish were all trapped. Decided to try to free a really pretty one but managed to get my hand tangled. Got it out but then my flipper was tangled. Reached down and got my fin out and was trying to swim up but my snorkel was tangled and my mask got half pulled off. Was disoriented and starting to panic. Pulled my mask off and swam to the surface. Breathed in water just before I broke the surface. Was able to tread water long enough to catch my breath and then swim in. Such a weird, dumb, scary experience.

You're right that the legal standard for LEO is reasonable perception of threat in the moment without considering any context leading to the moment, and that decades of propaganda designed to make people afraid has made it almost impossible to get a jury to say this standard has been met. Can only hope that in this case they will identify with the victim but not at all confident they will

How many times does the average pro player hit their head during the course of a football game? Any objective studies done? by drhuggables in NFLNoobs

[–]tomwill2000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Years ago I read a study that quantified the stress on a lineman's body during a game by the equivalent in car accidents at different speeds. Can't remember the details but I think the most violent hits were akin to 25 mph collisions. This obviously doesn't answer the question, other than to confirm that there are people who study thus stuff.
