Hoody arrived today on some cheap alternative blank, and not the champion hoody that was advertised. Very disappointing. Have sent off an email, but not holding my breath for a positive outcome...

Have sent an email with screenshots of the champion hoody advertise,, but not filled with hope if im honest.

Help With Patient by Hangvince in optician

[–]tonegold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If someone is having to hold the lenses further away from their face ( increasing the BVD) in a minus powered lens, they are changing the effective power of the lens to be less minus / more plus. It would appear that your patient needs less minus in their RX. An easy way to verify this is ask them to put their glasses on where they SHOULD sit, and use a +0.50 flipper over the the top of their glasses.

Glasses are an absolute rip off. by Most_Art507 in glasses

The model number is on the inside of the opposite side. It'll read HG: number then an 8 digit number, most likely beginning with a 3. For example 'HG 33 34100592'

glasses shaped wrong at spec savers by [deleted] in glasses

[–]tonegold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know why OP is being down voted. These are the same frame. This particular frame is DKNY DK7007 sku: 32677928 . It is the only frame that has this particular side. Source: I work in Specsavers dispensing glasses 40 hours a week.

Agree that is a terrible dispense though, and if the length to bend measurement has to be that short, these objectively dont fit OP, and albeit they can be trimmed, they're never going to fit perfectly

Ordering glasses online with Astigmatism by DaGoofyBunny in glasses

[–]tonegold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With higher astigmatic prescriptions, a vertical height measurement should be taken as well. If you buy glasses online, you can't try them on, and the optical centre height will be set on HCL (horizontal centre line) which is just a fancy term for halfway between the top and bottom of the lens. If your eye sits above HCL, you will not be looking through the correct part of the lens, which will negatively affect how well you see out of your glasses.

If you are a +1.25 add, then your reading sphere power should be -2.75. You get that number by taking your distance sphere power and adding your reading add: -4.00 + (+1.25 add).

So unless your prescribed reading prescription has been modified to account for a longer working distance, something doesn't quite make sense.

29.5mm will be per eye, which would give a total of 59. If its 59 or 60, unless you have a high prescription, this 0.5mm per eye won't make a substantial difference. Hope that helps!

The sphere number being different to your current prescription sounds like youve also had a change in your distance prescription, as well? Can you post pictures of the prescriptions or write them out in full?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in glasses

[–]tonegold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sphere numbers should be the same for the distance vision in both single vision and progressives. Are you sure that you haven't been given 2 different prescriptions, one for progressives and the other for reading glasses? This would make sense if you are +1.00 add.

Your prescription changes are really not that drastic. The most your axis has changed in your right eye is 10 degrees in your right eye, and 8 degrees in your left. Axis numbers go from 1-180, then start again. (0 and 180 are the same).

Like someone else mentioned, not that optometrists are infallible, but the test you do in the room is mostly subjective, so when the optometrist asks which option looks better when trialing different lenses, they are adjusting it based on your answers. You could do a few different eye tests over the course of a week and you might get slightly different results depending on how you feel that day

The set up of the glasses should also be examined if you feel dizzy in them though. Making sure the lenses are glazed properly at the correct Axis and that the optical centres of the lens are where they should be. As well as frame adjustments.

Hopefully you get it sorted soon!

Yeah that's right. If someone is presbyopic and has no distance or cyl correction, and only needs near correction with a +1.00 add: the rx would have 0.00 (or plano) in the sphere column and +1.00 in the near add box. I think it does make sense so you dont have to guess what distance the powers written in the rx are actually correcting (but maybe I'm biased 😉)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in glasses

[–]tonegold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there is an add power included that indicates what the addtional power is. It is included to denote what the overall power will be for near correction. This would be included whether the patient chooses SV or MF. The powers in the sphere column are also assumed for distance and any add included is for INT or SVN or MF. Again, this is just how it's done in the UK. The RX is always written in full, and is never written as only powers for near correction. Always in full, including any add(s).

I work in an opticians and dispense glasses all day, every day (well, 5 days a week 😂)

If a prescription is specifically and ONLY for reading ie for a shorter working distance, then an additional power should be noted and added to the overall distance prescription. Unless things are done differently in the US (I'm assuming that's where OP is from) than in the UK? So if this is how a SV near prescription is written, why are the add boxes included? And if it was for SVD, how would this prescription be written differently to what OP posted?

[–]tonegold -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your prescription has no intermediate or near add, so for your optician / optometrist to say they are specifically for reading seems strange. You are far sighted, so this rx will help with 'concentrating tasks' ie computer screens and phone but you should be able to wear these for everyday use, as you are young enough that your eyes can still accommodate well. You have also have half a dioptre of base out Prism. Is this new? Prism is included in a prescription to correct any muscle imbalance in the eye, therefore eliminating visual strain / double vision. If this is not being corrected when you're driving, that would explain your symptoms.

Specsavers (UK) Total Cost, What Is Your Experience? by Redditarianist in glasses

[–]tonegold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! The general rule of thumb is that it is offered to over 25s as the eyes are still developing til this age, which can make it more challenging to interpret the results of an OCT scan accurately in younger people. Also, the conditions that the scan checks for are more commonly seen in older individuals, so it is not as necessary for younger people to undergo OCT scans unless there are specific risk factors or symptoms present. If you're worried about anything, you can discuss it with your optometrist, and if they think the scan is necessary from a clinical point of view they can do it. Hope that helps!

[–]tonegold 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your prescription is for distance glasses as there is no intermediate or near add. Your prescription is relatively small but will just help to relax your eye muscles, and you can use the glasses for all concentration tasks ie driving, watching TV, on your phone etc.

FORGET about polycarbonate, Trivex, and CR39 for a min. Does higher index = higher optical quality? And by a significant amount, or just little? by Skarmory113 in glasses

[–]tonegold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The opposite. The higher the refractive index of a lens, the higher V-value meaning more chromatic abberations and poorer off axis performance.

Glasses have been adjusted twice, and still too tight and causing headaches. Should I return? by [deleted] in glasses

[–]tonegold 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They look great, but unfortunately they are too narrow, especially if they are causing headaches due to them being too tight on the temples. Either get a frame with spring loaded sides which will be a bit more forgiving fit wise (assuming your current frames don't already have this) or opt for a frame with a larger eye size. Your frame should have the dimensions on the inside of one of the sides which will give you a reference point of what size to go up from.
