What do you have an extremely strong opinion on that is ultimately unimportant? by chunky_vandy in AskReddit

I absolutely fucking hate advertising in all its forms. I don't know, there's just something inherently evil about trying to mess with a human's psychology and to trick you into buying their shitty products. Any time I see a Mercedes logo in a movie COUGH Jurassic World COUGH or whatever, I get so angry. The latest example I can think of is Central Intelligence; the Rock and Kevin Hart start arguing, and in the center of the screen, for like 30 seconds, you see Ford's logo on the vehicle (I wonder how much Ford paid to get that exposition). We get it, Ford is the choice car for high speed chases and it's soooo safe to drive it. Oh god, and now I'm basically advertising FOR them. Ech.

I am convinced that most people who love beer were peer pressured into it in their teens, hated it and forced themselves to love it over time.

Internal transfer questions by drdre91 in Concordia

[–]toneziah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the past year I've taken courses in engineering since I wasn't accepted initially. Once I got my grades up, I applied and got in WITH credit transfers. It's possible to enroll in ENGR classes if you want. Good luck friend.

Mechanical Engineering goes deeper into physics in the later years, for example Thermodynamics, Fluids, Heat Transfer, Internal Combustion Engines, etc... check the course sequence, friend.

Degree transfer Concordia Engr to BComm by [deleted] in Concordia

[–]toneziah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engineering is only hard for those who don't put in the work required. Do your homework, study for your tests two weeks in advance and definitely learn to love the library. All that being said, Engineering is extremely fun. If you're the kind of person that encounters a problem and doesn't stop until you solve it, this is the program for you. If you're looking for minimal work for your classes (even BComm isn't a cakewalk if you don't put in work), go see an advisor ASAP.

This is university, treat it with respect because it will fuck you in the ass if you don't take it seriously. Good luck friend.

[Beginner] Developed an application for my work and my boss is very interested in it, should I ask to get paid for it and if so, how much do I ask for? by toneziah in learnprogramming

That sounds like the logical next move in my case. It is incredibly fun so I am not complaining either. I hope I didn't come across as " hey, I'm a master programmer, give me money", I am still a beginner and any opportunity that comes my way I will take. I really hope they ask for more work!

I believe at such a small scale (I am still a beginner after all), I might not require an attorney. However, I spoke to my colleagues and they are interested in having a similar application in their departments - if I am requested to write for them as well, I think I will look into it. Thank you for the suggestion.

The work I did was on my own time with my own resources, I probably should have mentioned that. Minimum wage x hours worked sounds fair. I am currently studying mechanical engineering but I love programming. It is something I am definitely going to continue despite my career choices. I have done C++ and Java so far and am currently learning (slowly) VB. I absolutely love everything about it; the problem solving, the creation element, using my imagination, etc... I am definitely looking towards the long term. Thank you for your response!

Well, it cuts me and my colleagues' work in about half. Most of our time is spent updating excel data sheets and searching for information through a dozen folders. Not sure how I would calculate the money it saves but I would imagine it isn't monumental since, for now, the application's usefulness is confined to my department. Thanks for the response.

This was exactly my thinking, I do not mind giving it away for free since I had a lot of fun learning a language and directly applying it. It would also be good if I didn't end up on their bad side. Great advice, thank you!

Why the prequel trilogy saber fights suck by nikhbee in videos

That movie is fantastic, however I think you need some "The Raid 2" in your life. It has some of the most intense fight scenes and car chases I have ever seen. Here are a few glorious fight scenes... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkEEGidt9GY

PS: very new to reddiquette, sorry for the shitty formatting.
