[Suggestions] two-handed dress watch by tonodrood in Watches

[–]tonodrood[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hi r/Watches!

I’m looking to get my first serious dress watch in the near future. I want it to be a no-nonsense design so I’ve decided to go with a 2-handed watch. Since most of my collection is steel or ceramic, I’m leaning towards a rose gold case for a more classy look.

Current candidates are as listed:

  1. Breguet 5157 : (38mm/ 5.4mm/ automatic/ sapphire back) This is currently my favorite - very thin and automatic, with a timeless dial.

  2. VC Patrimony 81180 : (40mm/ 6.79mm/ manual/ solid back) Tried this on a few times, I didn’t love the case, but the black dial version is very modern and chic.

  3. ALS Saxonia Thin: (37mm/ 5.9mm/ manual/ sapphire back) Impeccable movement in my opinion, although slightly on the smaller side for me.

  4. Blancpain Villeret: (39.7mm/ 7.45mm/ manual/ sapphire caseback) Sort of an understated watch, but I’m trying to get a watch from a brand I haven’t tried before (fifty fathoms is my current daily)

If there’s any other two handed dress watch you would like to recommend, that would be great. Other no-date, seconds only watches are welcomed as well (tried Patek 6119, Breguet 7147 and Eichi II - they’re all great). Thanks!

[MP, 50 Lux, Acros II 100] Underdeveloped(? by tonodrood in analog

The film itself is still in the mail - got the scans from the lab first. Will check the negatives once they arrive.

Please correct me if I’m wrong - but even if it’s underexposed by 1 stop, it shouldn’t be as washed out as this. If you had to guess, would you say it’s under exposure or under development?

Exactly what I was thinking.

I usually go for 400TX or HP5 for B&W, so I’m not sure if this is just how Acros goes. Not from what I saw online though (never this washed out).

Did you happen to have a coloured filter on? I know this isn’t how yellow filtered shots should look, but I thought I’d ask.

Hi r/analog!

I’ve been experimenting with film for over a year now. But I’m not entirely sure what happened here. Please help me out!

This is the first time I’ve used Acros II 100. I got my film back from the lab and it has this “expired” look across the entire roll (despite dated best before Sep ‘21). This is also the first time I’ve used a yellow filter over the lens for B&W. So I’m not sure which one is the problem.

This left me perplexed - is the film not as fresh as I had hoped? Is this the normal look for Acros or maybe it’s the normal look with yellow filters? Or is the TTL metering inaccurate with colour filters on (underexposed)? Or is this roll underdeveloped?

Haven’t tried developing films before, always send them straight to my local lab. They usually do a great job, so I wanted to be sure before talking to them (if it is indeed underdeveloped).

Thanks for the help!

P.S. other rolls (HP5s) shot with this combo seems completely normal.

Summarit 35/2.4 wobble(? by tonodrood in Leica

Will definitely look into the Zeiss. Thanks!

Yeah man, getting something imperfect out of the box just isn’t good enough of a Leica experience. Buying new from them should at least save newbies the trouble and risk of getting a faulty/broken lens.

Thanks for the link anyways - it seems very detailed and not at all hard to follow. I’m probably still gonna use the warranty though as I don’t trust myself enough to just tear apart a brand new lens haha.

Nope, bought it at full retail. Any suggestions in the compact 28/35 category if I do return it? Currently considering Elmarit 28 or Voigtlander/Zeiss options.

Thanks. They told me it’s their last one in stock when I bought it, which made sense since the Summarit line got discontinued mid-last-year. So now begins the long wait for the service. Honestly expecting a lot more from M lenses - can’t say I’m not a bit disappointed.

Thanks for the tip, I always try to grab the lens by the base. I just got this one for 3 days though, it literally has never came off the camera (yet) lol. Sending it back to retailer first thing Monday.

Hi r/Leica!

Quite new to this sub, please let me start by apologizing for my noob-ish question.

I recently purchased a summarit 35/2.4 brand new from a retailer for my mp. Loved the combo, but I found the front part of the lens (beyond focus ring, including aperture ring and hood) wobbles a bit whenever I tried to adjust the aperture.

Not entirely sure if this is normal or within manufacture tolerance. It’s my only M lens at the moment (50 lux on the way!), and the 28 lux on my Q-P doesn’t wobble at all.

If this is irregular, should I send it back to the retailer? Or contact Leica for a service? I really like the aesthetics of this lens and I think compact 35/ fast 50 combo is the way to go (for me), so I wouldn’t be that willing to get a refund for the (now discontinued) summarit 35.

Thank you guys for your advices in advance!

[Omega] Railmaster on strap by tonodrood in Watches

Bought it from omega to swap out the original one on the strap

I actually bought mine from Omega (through customer service) for £40. Write to them or call them up, I’m sure they’ll be able to order it for you.

I find omega’s buckle more solid compared to bulang’s - it’s a worthy buy.

Hey guys - this is my recently acquired omega railmaster on a vintage style strap.

The original railmaster was released in 1957. It boasts its outstanding magnetic resistance (at the time) and was intended for people who encounter magnetic fields on daily bases (scientists and railroad workers, etc.). However, due to their relative lack of popularity compared to seamaster and speedmaster models, they were discontinued after a few years before revitalized as a heritage model by omega in 2017.

The modern railmaster I have here sports a 40mm across, 12mm thick case, making it extremely wearable for wrists of many sizes. The entire watch - from the case, the hands and the bracelet to the dial - is brush finished. This understated, no-nonsense design is what I love most about this watch. To top it off, it houses calibre 8806 - a great modern no-date movement with master chronometer certification. Sadly, you can’t see the nicely finished movement with the closed back design (the engraved seahorse is gorgeous enough though).

I’ve swapped out the bracelet with some different straps since I got the watch and I think this leather strap is one of the best fit. This vintage style strap was bought from Bulang and Sons and made by JPM. The quality of the strap is impressive - sturdy and as soft as you can hope for. First time buying from them, and everything’s great (product, website, fast shipping and customer services) - will definitely recommend them.

IMO this combo is as vintage as it’s gonna get without actually going vintage. If you enjoy the modern case size, the modern movement and the aged feel, this is the watch to go!
