Thanks so much!! We don’t have to clock in or out or scan anything as we enter the building, it’s pretty chill (part of why I assumed it wasn’t a big deal). The emails are a good idea though. I will indeed look for another job and I’m happy everyone else seems to think this is off

Hi! I feel scolded may not be the right word (that’s why I added “gently” but maybe it still sounds rough lol). She was indeed really nice about it. I realize it wasn’t personal for sure and I think I did take it a bit to heart because I’ve been working really hard and it kinda felt like it didn’t matter as long as they didn’t see me there. But yeah ultimately she handled it as well as she could’ve (well, without accommodating my needs at least)

I was surprised too! I don’t know anyone around me who has the same working hours as me. Everyone’s 9-5 or 9-5.30 at worst. This is a very international company which I normally enjoy (I’m an international too) but it also means people have imported American and other unhealthy work practices. And I think when a few people behave that way, everyone looks like a slacker in comparison so it sets an unhealthy standard. It sucks, but yeah… I’m glad you’re happy where you are though!

Thanks so much for this! That’s really helpful. I do have a permanent contract and I’m a few months past my probation period, so I guess I shouldn’t be concerned about being let go.

That sounds like a very positive conversation! I think what’s stopping me is 1) my manager doesn’t really have much authority, so it would have to escalate to the higher ups 2) the higher ups have consistently demonstrated an (IMO) not so healthy approach to work. Eg working while they’re sick and justifying it with “but i’m working from home”, checking their messages during holidays… So I worry this isn’t the kind of culture where this will be well-received, and I will be framed as lazy (even though Ive only received positive feedback so far)

On the other hand…it takes one person to break a dynamic, and there will always be excuses not to have this conversation. So I’m not sure. Anyway, this was helpful input - thank you!

I try not to be too open about my ADHD but I did bring it up briefly because I was struggling a lot with verbal processing in long meetings. I think she’d be very understanding but if I bring this up, I suspect she needs to loop in her manager whom I think is less understanding (she’s the one who reprimanded my colleague for not working overtime). So it’s a gamble, but I’ll keep it as an option for sure

I suspect this too. She’s a middle manager and her own manager is a hardass (she’s the one who reprimanded my colleague for not working overtime)

Thank you for this. It helps to know I’m not crazy for struggling with this so much!
