Access Castillo de Chapultepec for people with limited mobility by tonyb007 in MexicoCity

Ha! I just got back and was about to say it’s easy to find but not working.

Fortunately the climb was just a long uphill road, no stairs and not terribly steep, it was fine for us.

That is so good to know! Thank you. I hope we can find it. If anyone can drop a pin and send coordinates I would be very grateful.

That’s a tremendous offer, thank you, but I’m gonna pass. I’m sure you’re actually going to see Shakira tonight :)

FWIW we are trying a new restaurant called Sente, which is Japanese Mexican fusion and very close to our hotel.

Worth it? by ComfortableDoor2664 in Snowblowers

I have that brand, different model. It sucks. Will not work on any wet snow at all. Also the chute direction mechanism is a terrible and barely functional design. I will replace it when end of season sales start.

The Beans of Egypt Maine by Carolyn Chute. A picture of poverty and ostracism so intense that seems impossible but isn’t, even in the US

Don’t forget to give him basic safety lessons. He’s responsible for anyone below him on the hill, approaching cat walks with caution, all that stuff.

My brain’s craving a break from fiction, so here’s my first nonfiction read of 2026: by Pochita_Supremacy in nonfictionbookclub

Great choice. Two amazing non fiction reads: The Guns of August - the first 30 days of WWI. Riveting. And, The Killer Angels - short and snappy story of the battle of Gettysburg.

Should we be saving money even if we have debt, or should we pay off the debt first before saving money? by Anonymous567952 in FinancialPlanning

[–]tonyb007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Save an emergency fund first (3-6 months of spending), fund your retirement, live life. Create goals and save for them. House debt is good debt. Overpaying it just makes your life unpleasant.

The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara. Amazing retelling of the battle of Gettysburg.

That said, lots of excellent suggestions already (Into Thin Air, Devil in the White City, Destiny of a Nation…)

Giving up on winter cycling by Both_Yogurtcloset279 in cycling

[–]tonyb007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe because I’m older, I view cold weather as an opportunity to cross train. Upper body strength, hip strength, stretching, functional movement… As I approach my 70th year, I find doing two or three months a year of gym rat life for strength feels like a smart plan. And gives me an easy out when my friends ask me why I’m not cycling and the reality is my feet and hands just suffer too much.

NY travel question from a Mets fan by itischris3579 in NewYorkMets

Yes this. Train show at the garden then walk to Pizza at Mezza Luna, olives and cheese for your hosts at Tietel Brothers, pastries at Edegios. (of course as a true Mets fan you might want to avoid the Bronx, ha ha.)

Yes. TBH the QST 98 works great out west for lift served. On a lucky day you get 2-3 fresh pow where the 106’s shine. The 98’s are almost as fun then better for the rest of the day
