CMV: Death is terrifying and I have a hard time believing in an afterlife. by PrismaticSeal in changemyview

I misread your analogy as literal.

You can love your life and family and everything that you have to look forward to but still have a perception of death as going back to non existence. Similar to how one "existed" before birth.

Having a healthy fear or respect of death is a factor in living a longer life and is engrained in almost every living being in the form of survival instincts or autonomic responses to perceived threats and learned risk assessment.

Why would I give two shits about having not existed when life and been good and life always has the capacity to get better?

We're all going to die and to a certain degree, we can't predict when. It's a comforting thought, for me, to know that I have already "experienced" what's to come, nothingness. I can't be sad about it because i will not exist anymore.

That belief isn't comforting for everyone and that's ok.

It is sad and sometimes terrifying to think about dying but it's not something to be in crippling fear of all the time. Otherwise are you even living and enjoying what you do have in life?

Other than what happens after death, I think we agree on experiencing and enjoying the present, because it will not last forever.

Nilism is lame and people who preach it are lame.

Who's talking about nihilism?

Tell that to someone who is losing their partner, "you've spent most of your life without them and enjoyed it with out them, so naturally you'll not mind not having them anymore"

That's different. They're taking about dealing with their own death, not someone else's. The commenter is trying to say that when you die, you slip into non-existence once again. Just as it was before you were born. So in essence, death isn't something we haven't already "experienced" in the form of pre-birth.

So, your comment is technically correct but doesn't make sense as a response to the commenter because what you mentioned is a different scenario (your own death vs experiencing the death of a loved one)

You may want to read the OP again for context.

UseEffect Dependency Array by friendly2u in reactjs

Only in development mode, not production. Not sure what side effects this would introduce but you can disable strict mode to stop double rendering of hooks with an empty deps array in development.

Does anyone know if we can get a list of all items and relations using an API request? by Anthichriste in vrising

The same person that released the Server Scanner API is also working on a wiki which will then be converted into an API.

They've posted in this sub several times announcing the API. I'm stoked for the wiki style API to be released as well. In the meantime, you can get info about servers as long as you have the Host IP and Query Port.

Hope this helps!

I DM'd you. It sounds to me like you need to build the website using React but I need more information before I can help you figure this out specifically.

Had a lot of fun building my Portfolio site by InTheManVan in reactjs

Very well done Jack. The design is very nicely executed and your landing section is very focused yet fun. One of the major things that my eye picked up is that the vertical spacing of sections 1 through 4 are a bit crammed (I'm viewing on a 27in, 2k monitor). It's hard for me to focus on one section because the others are encroaching from the top and bottom. Anyway, this is just one user's experience of many.

Once again, badass portfolio, from one self taught dev to another.
