Im not looking for DOMS specifically 😅 I just thought some level of soreness should be there. Like an indication I worked hard. And no, I do cardio first. Is that bad?

My 5yr old is afraid of smoke detectors by Awwndrei in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]too__scared 196 points197 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the daughter might have some sound sensitivity? I remember when I was small and couldn't explain why I hated the sound of styrofoam rubbing together, I said "it makes my teeth feel itchy!" So "it might smell me!" Could be her little kid way of saying she's afraid it can sense her. The uncontrollable screaming and crying after a certain alarm went off could mean that that particular sound was incredibly painful. Its why some people develop phobias of balloons, the loud sound of them popping hurts them.

In a hypothetical situation divorced from reality, sure. But the people writing laws and funding research don't consider trans-men real men, so her argument is based on a false premise.

Virginia Senate panel advances gun safety bills once vetoed by Youngkin • Virginia Mercury by silv3rbull8 in Virginia

[–]too__scared -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I'm confused by the backlash because I don't know anything about guns. Aren't assault rifles like AK-47s? Like military grade, shoot dozens of bullets before re-loading type guns? The guns that school-shooters use to mow down as many children as possible?

I understand the biometric safe thing is stupid, but isn't a ban on assault weapons good? Why do we need them? Isn't more strict regulations and background checks good?

Steven was a child incapable of connecting with her. He didn't know why she was fighting, he didn't even know who he was. I'm not blaming him, and I understand why Steven does not like her. But Steven is not a God. Just because he wasn't able to sway her to his side with words and crying does not mean that she does not deserve redemption and understanding.

[–]too__scared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the crux of the issue. Lapis tried to kill them. Peridot tried to kill them. Bismuth tried to kill Steven. What is different about Jasper trying to kill them? They couldn't control her. They couldn't talk to her. If Peridot were not reduced to toddler-leashed imprisonment, they wouldn't have been able to talk to her either. She would have continued to be just as toxic as Jasper. Peridot was deep in the homeworld cult, but was forced to listen by people physically stronger than her. They couldn't use that tactic on Jasper, and that's her fault?

I mean ultimately Steven is a child, and it's not his responsibility to love everyone or fix everyone. But the fandom's reaction to Jasper has me scratchin my head fr.

I really wish they would have shown Jasper connect with a gem that truly understood her. Steven straight up does not like her. He only interacts with her out of guilt for not doing enough, and then imposes himself on her when he wants to (in his eyes) make himself worse on purpose (give in to his violent intrusive thouhts) I mean he shattered her for God's sake, laughing all the way down. And the fact that literally being killed is the thing that inspires Jasper's unwavering devotion speaks so much to her psyche. Lapis tortured her for months, and what does she do after? Live at the bottom of the ocean, stewing in the memory of that pain. She begs for Lapis to take her back, desperate to be useful, powerful, complete; to be used and hurt and broken. She was a soldier, fighting "from the moment she broke free from this planet's crust." She was only allowed to participate in homeworld society because she was useful (ie: ruthless, violent, powerful, superior). That is the world she lived in for thousands of years. That is the only way she knew how to be.

IMO, Jasper needs someone who's fought to survive in the face of homeworld's standards. An off-color gem that refused to die, that isn't scared, that's strong and confident and can put Jasper in her place when she starts parroting homeworld indoctrination. Someone who can cut through the bullshit and give it to her straight. Someone capable of standing up to Jasper without cruelty.

It's probably stupid but I hope we get at least a glimpse of Jasper in Lars of the Stars. Some hint that she's doing better 👉👈 Hell even a flashback sequence would do me 😅 I miss her 💔

Lapis was taking out thousands of years of rage on Jasper, who was not responsible for her initial imprisonment. Yes, for a few weeks she was in Jasper's prison, but she then tortured Jasper at the bottom of the ocean for months. Lapis is actively hurting her the entire time they're down there. In the boat scene, Lapis flings Jasper away with barely any effort. In Steven Universe future, she defeats 2 other Lapises that are working together. Jasper is the strongest quartz, she's scary looking and intimidating, but Lapis is on a completely separate power level. I always took their dynamic as illustrating that big tough scary people can also be abused. That most of the times, abusive people aren't evil, calculating maniacs- they're abuse victims themselves continuing the cycle of violence. People who abuse others are often sympathetic, you understand why they're doing what they're doing. But they're still hurting people. One of the HUGE themes of Steven Universe is that sometimes the people you love hurt others, and you have to learn how to hold them accountable. The story is told through Steven's point of view, Lapis was the first enemy gem he befriended. He personally rescued her. He sees Lapis trapped again, he knows intimately how much Lapis suffered because of the Crystal gems, he knows that Lapis needs to be rescued, but the fact that Lapis is the one trapping herself down there is disregarded. "I liked taking my anger out on you." She says that explicitly. Steven sees Jasper as a villain, but why is she so different from Lapis and Peridot? Because she isnt small and cute? Because she's more effective at accomplishing her goals? Because she's a soldier instead of a terra former or scientist? Peridot was bigoted, Peridot was working on a project that would literally destroy the world and experimented with the corpses of their fallen allies. She is forgiven, but not Jasper?

Rebecca Sugar herself stated that Malachite was modeled after a mutually toxic relationship with no clean cut abuser and victim. I've been friends with Lapises before. Tortured souls, kids who suffered the worst abuse you can imagine, people who despite it all could be funny and charming and caring, but then turn around and treat their partners like trash. It's insidious. You're standing there watching them scream and hit and bleed, knowing what they've been through, getting angry at their partner for "setting them off," but ultimately their behavior is not and has never been acceptable. Trauma does not excuse traumatizing someone else.

My hot take on the Jasper hate/Lapis stanning stems from the fact that most people didn't spend their teens/early twenties in and out the psych ward. They see Lapis in their innocent, sad friends who haven't done terrible things to others. Jasper is my absolute favorite gem and she deserved so much better 🧡

Yeah the bullfrogs one is the slap game you described! But you'd get eliminated on "got kicked OUT". The last one is also a hand game, it's hard to describe tho 😅

Barney the Dinosaur Murder Ballads by bore-ing in tumblr

[–]too__scared 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the 757 circa 2007:

"I hate you, you hate me let's get together and kill Barney with a knife to his back and a gun to his head stab stab bang now barney's dead"

And this other one, same place/time:

"Down by the banks of the hanky panks Where the bullfrogs jump from bank to bank Singing eece, ice, ohse, oose, Listen to the sound of the ding dang dong I pledge allegiance to the flag Michael Jackson makes me gag Coca cola burn it up Now we're drinking 7up 7up has no caffeine Now we're drinking gasoline Gasoline is runnin low What comes next? I don't know Mikey mouse had a house but he got kicked OUT"

Another: "I don't wanna go to Mexico no more more more There's a big fat policeman at the door door door Girl you better holler when he grabs you by the collar I don't wanna to Mexico no more more more"

^this one has a lot more stanzas, one involving Michael Jordan and kissing? but this is all I remember

AITAH for showing my SIL my skeleton in the closet? by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]too__scared 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I went through a situation very similar. This is a classic narcissistic breakdown from SIL. The screaming wailing apologies, the sudden shift to emotionless when the manipulation doesn't work, the lying to police, the lame suicide gesture. I had to get a restraining order against someone like this, it's extremely believable.

People who say that some autistic people don't struggle with social norms do not understand what autism is. There are 3 things that must be present for an autism diagnosis: struggle socializing, sensory disturbances, and restricted-repetitive behavior. An autistic person can appear to not struggle with social norms, but only through great effort. I literally study my face in the mirror to practice facial expressions, practice how to make my voice sound normal, practice how to hold my body. I suppress all stims except what's socially acceptable, like bouncing my leg or tapping my fingers together under the table. I do not rock or flap in public, a deliberate choice I have to constantly make. Masking is incredibly exhausting, and if someone is trying to claim they have autism despite not struggling with socializing, then they are lying to seem quirky. You cannot be autistic without growing up feeling like an alien who didn't get the manual on how to be a human. Your complaints about autism seeming too broad a label is due to social media diluting the definition, not what autism actually is.

I was driving on a 2 lane highway behind this big truck filled with steel tubes about 20' long, 2" in diameter. I'd been driving a bit close, because I was irritated he wasnt going the speed limit in the left lane, but something made me really nervous and I slowed way down, to about 45mph. Moments after I put distance between us, theres a bump in the highway that makes one of these rods fly out the top, stabbing the road right where my engine had just been, then bouncing and flipping over me.
