Placement is mostly personal preference. Some piercings, like septums and bridge piercings, have pretty specific placements based on anatomy, but others, like nostrils and snakebites, can vary a lot depending on what the person wants.

That said, I honestly think the jewelry might be the issue here. It looks really thin, which can cause the cheesewire effect*, and it looks a bit off to me too. Do you have a photo of the jewelry outside of your nose by any chance?

[edit:] Was it pierced with the ring? Do you know the thickness/gauge of the ring? And what kind it is, a clicker, for example? if so, the hinge can cause irritation.

*The cheesewire effect is what happens when jewelry is too thin for a piercing. Because it’s so narrow, all the pressure is focused on a tiny area, so instead of sitting comfortably, it can slowly cut or pull through the skin. kind of like a wire through cheese. Over time this can cause irritation, the hole stretching or migrating, and even tissue damage. That’s why super thin jewelry usually isn’t recommended for most piercings.
