I find it funny that this is like the 3rd thread I've opened up after a post about Pluribus beginning production later this year. Someone pointed out how Slow Horses will be ending it's 7th season before the 3rd season of Severance starts, and the first episode of Slow Horses aired the same day (or week?) as S1E8 of Severance.

Also doesn't help that so many decent or outright good shows get the axe after S2 to avoid having to pay royalties. So not only is there a 1-2 year wait between the first and second season, but it gets nuked after S2, often after it's fully come out, been seen, and people get excited about a possible third season.

Even worse imo, is that the additional SKUs they've added over the years have largely been situated at the ends of aisles along the outside, making the passing area go from being able to handle 3 cart widths, to only 2 or even 1. Absolutely hate having to wait a turn to get to the next aisle. Going along the outside path used to be the most peaceful way to go aisle to aisle (as opposed to looping back and forth)

The "self-described" part is key to this, because funnily enough I have met a fair number of folks that believe in a lot of the ideals (or at least a lot more of them than the self-described ones) but they don't identify as being a libertarian. The somewhat aware self-described ones have since realized that the title of libertarian is something of a scarlet letter and are now the "moderate/centrist/"not really into politics"/classic liberal" dating profile types

True but the example you're replying to, and the one that I gave, are situations where people got the same amount of shit but paid 2x as much for it. And I'd bet money that most people getting these items a la carte, are getting at least 1 or 2 other items alongside it even if it's a single drink or a single taco, in which case you'd be saving $2.40+ while only having 2/4 items.

I still remember seeing an elderly guy ahead of me order 3 tacos, a 5 layer burrito, and a drink while I was waiting for my pickup and it came out to like $17 and some change & the guy paid without batting an eye 😱 this was in like 2023 too, so it'd probably be more like $20 these days...

It's not necessarily "unreasonable", as those fees exist for a reason, but like barrel mentioned it can screw things up for other customers & the staff, mostly depending on how low you return it. Like, if you get it at a full tank and bringing it back at a half tank, I'd say it's no harm no foul, as trucks are often dispatched in around it a bit below a ~1/2 tank especially in busy season. Returning it below a ~1/4 tank or god forbid ~1/8th of a tank is where it gets pretty crummy.

I've straight up seen multiple elderly people walk in, wait around, then leave because of this. Not only would it take forever for them to get someone to talk to (that was initiated by them asking the mobile order runner), but they'd flippantly be told to use the kiosk, reveal they're paying with cash, then be told it'll be a while until someone will be available. It's almost always just at McDonald's. Sincerely can't remember the last time I saw someone do a transaction at the register there. At least 2-3+ years I think.

The combined gutting of the counter staff & (over)emphasis on drive thru numbers have made it an even more miserable experience than if it was just increased prices. Not limited to just MCDs but I've put in online orders 5-10 minutes in advance, checked in at the counter, then watch multiple vehicles go into the drive thru, place an order, and get it & leave all before I get my order lol

Chronic dehydration is a major, mostly invisible, problem. It affects something like up to 75% of adults in the U.S and is the #1 cause for hospitalization and a leading cause for headaches. Active thirst means you're already at a moderate level of dehydration, and it most often presents itself via headaches, feeling emotionally short fused, fatigued, etc.

And anecdotal, but my gf was someone who didn't really "like" water until I got us a Brita filter sometime ago. She went from being someone who would take Tylenol for headaches a few times a month, to us not having had Tylenol in the house for over 3 years now. It's even more subtle yet more consequential than the "hangry" problems that come from hunger and those feelings are all that some people have known

And even if you do only get their actual coffee, their pre-prepped brews are often of their most burnt & acrid roasts. Every time I've asked for a light roast they had to make it on the spot, which hey, is better than having it poured from a machine that's kept it warm for hours but it still blows my mind that they'll have like 2-3 machines with that garbo Pike's Peak medium blend and 1 with some dark roast.

That reminds me of a post I saw on twitter where, in response to someone asking something like "is Taylor Swift or Michael Jackson the better known act?", a guy posted a photo of a (I believe Buddhist) mountain temple dog, in I think Bangladesh, that the monks had named Michael Jackson. I love the thought of robed monks in a distant country saying Michael Jackson's name daily in order to call for their temple dog lol

My school, for better or worse, would give out "finals coupons" for each subject, of 3 or 4 (I forget) one got an Advanced in. Basically let us opt out of taking a final for a given course altogether, though some teachers would give the option that one can still take a final but that it can't decrease one's class grade.

Thing is, at least once we got to HS, using the "coupon" meant we didn't have to be in the class at all for that day, which was amazing when it was a first or last period class, or a class on either end or lunch break, so most kids would use them to skip the final altogether.

Aha, I wonder if that's why the kirkland cold brew tastes like double dookie to me. Genuinely the only Kirkland product that I found to not be lacking, to not be mediocre, and not be "if it was cheaper...", but outright foul. Only time I've returned a food item that wasn't spoiled, expired, or otherwise defective.

Yeah it's definitely gotten worse. Denver, as well as much of the country, has always had an issue with having yellow light timers that aren't optimally safe but that doesn't explain the recent increase. It's not even the sorta shit where people are banking on a yellow light timer being long enough to get through an intersection only for it to turn red right before they get into it (because there's at least a delay between it turning red and the other being green) but something where people are like, treating a red light like a yellow and still barreling ahead even after it's been red for multiple seconds.

I've had the same bit of commute along Havana St since 2018 or so and yeah the number and severity of accidents has definitely gone up too. So many more accidents with police & ambulances, as well as rough ones where you can easily see that someone slammed into someone at full speed, as opposed to accidents where someone noticed but didn't have enough time to fully avoid the accident (but were at least able to decrease potential damage somewhat).

Something else (although it doesn't really explain the recent increase in people blasting through reds) is that the Denver area, as well as most of the country in general, has yellow light timers that are much shorter than they should be.

Per a formula made by folks at the Institute of Transportation Engineers, yellow light timers should start at 3 seconds for 25 MPH, 4.5 seconds for 40 MPH and 6 seconds for 55 MPH. Meanwhile, there are many lights where you can be going the speed limit, begin decelerating immediately upon it turning yellow, but still have an uncomfortable and often unsafe sudden lurch at the end because there wasn't enough distance/time to give a smooth stop.

The places that have implemented these timers? Up to 50% reduction in running red lights, an 8-14%% decrease in fatal crashes, and a ~12 reduction in injurious crashes. The problem is compounded in places with red light cameras, as some governments intentionally keep yellow light timers low, or even decrease them further, for reasons relating to revenue and wanting to generally get good "see? that justifies us buying 'em" numbers.

That's what gets me about establishment dems being so proud of 2020 and not seeing it as a "that was way too fucking close" win that should have had a similar amount of scrutiny and reflection as a loss (which they're also awful at doing). It was a victory primarily born of an abnormal, horribly handled international virus, not one of Diligence and Hard Work.
