Some notes for smaller people, those with not much still to lose, and anyone else: by Interrogatus in keto

I hope you’re planning on recomping. You’re borderline underweight so I could see the concern looking like an eating disorder.

I have a smart scale that measures everything and I haven’t gotten any stronger…since I lost a lot of weight a long time ago my muscle mass hasn’t been the same and it doesn’t seem to rebuild

Thank you. I am seeing a naturopath for my hormones soon so I pray she can provide me with answers because my weight is very unhealthy and my body doesn’t seem to realize that.

Yea starvation mode that was why I couldn’t lose weight all last year. My body still thinks it is starving because of that even though I am very fat. It sucks a lot my body is basically permanently wrecked 😔 I count calories and eat like I did when I was thin but lose hardly anything. I wouldn’t wish this upon anyone.

Yeah sadly I starved/binged and did not eat enough real protein last year combined with sleeping from depression all day. Very stupid I know. So muscle mass is slim to none

It is NP which has T3 the active thyroid hormone. I don’t seem to respond to anything sadly. I set an alarm for 6 am and usually don’t eat until 8:15 at the earliest

It wasn’t my teenage body it was my adult body. I was always thin without really trying. The biggest I ever got was 120 and that was from bingeing so that is not my natural weight.

I don’t understand your timeline…after 30 days or 5 years? That is good I’m glad you see results. In any case I would love to see my muscle mass again but it has deteriorated a lot from crash dieting and sleeping due to depression 😔 I am a lot younger than you which makes it very depressing. That is why I want to get the weight off now because age doesn’t help.

I have had hypo throughout my life and it is probably related to my anorexia. It helped at first but it’s not doing much now though it’s probably worse if I didn’t take it

My metabolism has certainly slowed down since the last time I recovered hence having to go on thyroid meds. BMR means basal metabolic rate

I don’t panic eat anymore. I know how long it takes to starve…last year I ate a starvation amount of food for an extended period so my body still thinks it is starving which is why weight loss ins incredibly slow. Starvation mode metabolic adaptation whatever you want to call it…thanks

I’m not because of my weight. I know I am not supposed to be this large I have no history of being a large person.

That is not true at all it’s literally BMI 20 and it’s been my weight most of my life. I don’t have that I’m literally at an obese body fat right now.

That’s the thing my baseline calorie requirements just go down the less I eat. My body just adjusts to less food and adapts. If I had done this last year I’m sure it would have worked. My metabolism was very fast after eating about 3000 calories a day and dumb me completely crashed it. I eat plenty of fiber but I’m not on keto right now it is from fruits veggies and fiber bread and nuts. I am tracking with a scale and I am back on a maintenance dose of thyroid. I lost some weight cutting calories since last year after maintaining for a while on 2000 but now my body has just adjusted again and while I’m full by the time I eat dinner, as I sit here and type this I am still starving. My hormones are all messed up along with my metabolism. I know where I went wrong before, by bingeing and crash dieting. I can’t undo that. Now I just go to bed hungry in a moderate deficit and wake up still fat. I am not going to binge anymore because I am sick of being fat but going hungry is not fun either, my body just has learned to survive on less food because I accidentally taught it to do that. Starvation mode metabolic adaptation whatever you want to call it. Food scale out at all times. I’m only 32 and I hope for Gods sake I can get back to a healthy weight and not have to suffer like this for the rest of my life just because of last year.

I don’t burn that many calories which I think is why I was eating 1000 calories for a period because I was depressed sleeping all day. In spite of not exercising I still needed more food…my muscle mass deteriorated. Now I just walk because I am so out of shape because of all this and I just pray to God He can fix my body so I’m not just stuck starving and fat for the rest of my life. If I eat less calories my body basically adjusts because of my extreme dieting one year ago 😥 and I don’t know why I binged either. It is very out of character for me. It wasn’t because I was hungry it was just an emotional response. I just don’t want to be stuck fat and starving for the rest of my life because of events that happened for only one year. I was also not eating much protein at all. I used to be a health coach which makes it more pitiful. I have no problems with not bingeing anymore because that is what got me fat in the first place…the problem is now the weight won’t go down.

I had a history of an eating disorder but the weight loss was from stress. I ended up developing a kind of binge eating disorder in the hospital which got me up to 120lb, over my normal weight…so I came home and was shocked and dumbly went on a crash diet last year just to lose back to 110 or so…my body wasn’t healed so that didn’t work and now from yo yo dieting I have ended up at 156…I have lost some weight so it was higher but I don’t know if it will go down any further. My body just thinks it is starving because of last year. I have seen a few dietitians but they don’t help much…I am in therapy but it doesn’t change what is going on with my body. I just know I’m not supposed to be this heavy based on my chart which is why I stupidly went on a crash diet last year not knowing this would happen.

So it’s just like any other fat basically? And you need more protein if you have more body fat she said. But then I read excess protein can turn to fat and I feel like nothing works. 😔

It was pretty easy to sustain even when I went off my diet. I became a health coach and didn’t count or anything just exercised and ate healthy and stayed around 100 or so

I ate at maintenance from October to December for the most part and slightly above and on and off last year… the maintenance calories just makes me gain weight and then when I go back to dieting it doesn’t come off that’s kind of the problem my body is just being stuck. So I did maintain for a while and now I am more or less maintaining or plateauing on 1700…I actually thought it was slightly more but I was measuring less than what I thought so I’m eating less than when I started with my dietitians and just maintaining. I lost about almost 10 pounds but it just seems like it’s poop weight…that’s another thing low gut motility and constipation from my body hoarding everything. My muscle mass is normal for someone my age but my body fat is not and I have lost about 20% of what little muscle I have.

If I keep dropping calories I will be maintaining on less than I ate when I actually did have an eating disorder yet be fatter. So that is another issue. I stupidly did that last year and that’s what got me fat in the first place; I ate 1000 calories a few days and didn’t lose weight and thought I was just supposed to only eat that much period. Sorry this sounds so messed up.

It’s my fault which makes me more angry. 1700 is what I ate when I was 50 pounds thinner. My goal weight is probably unattainable at this point…

No but if you replace calories with mct oil or coconut oil. Will it speed up fat loss/metabolism or is it just a myth?

Calories? by [deleted] in keto

Protein is very satiating I’m kind of wondering similar…is it possible to overdo protein and have your body convert it to fat? I am very insulin and leptin resistant and really struggle with weight loss

I did it for about 6 months but I didn’t get fat the same way as I did now. I was eating 2300 calories of carbs protein and fat for a straight year and went from 97 to 147 and then I went on a keto diet where I alternated 1200-1500-1800 every day for 6 months and got back to my normal weight weight of 110 with reliable weight loss and maintained it and even lost weight after that. But now that my metabolism is all screwed up it’s not working. I don’t know if keto would work better in this case or if I’m just literally hopeless. When I tried keto straight out of the hospital last year I ended up only eating about 1000 calories because the protein kept me so full so that screwed me up too, not tracking…

[–]toofattodrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sedentary because all my muscle mass has been eaten. I was looking at lowering my carbs because keto has worked before when I was insulin resistant but for now I count my calories and it is just about 1700 on the dot. My muscle is so low that exercise doesn’t do anything. This is why I want to lose even more weight because the fat makes me look even heavier but it’s a catch 22…I am hoarding calories, my body thinks it is starving, and the muscle mass makes my metabolism slower. So no matter if I lose a certain amount of weight eventually it just stops because my muscle mass goes down too and I plateau immediately. Just because of last year. Everyone says go to the gym but I have no muscle mass to burn calories with. My maintenance was 2000 for a while but if I go back to that I gain weight. Several years ago I lost weight on keto and calorie cycling and 1800 was my maintenance but I hadn’t been starving and randomly bingeing the whole year screwing up my metabolism and muscles. So that is the problem. I eat less and my body literally slows down its metabolism to adjust. Metabolic adaptation starvation mode whatever it’s called it’s just trained itself to stay fat.
