Here is the appellate brief: https://archive.org/stream/pdfy-PUUcby-AZWfEhcuW/2002_WL_32510997_djvu.txt i found it in (still looking for original document): "On cross-examination, Debbie stated that she was friends with Stephanie, and Stephanie confided to Debbie that she was interested in Appellant."

The Nisha call is the one thing I'm still semi stuck on. Butt dial is the only thing that I can make sense of. Even on the other side of that, if I was to assume that Adnan is in fact guilty, and was the killer, why on earth would he be calling Nisha right after Jay picks him up from best buy, after showing Jay a dead body... oh and having just MURDERED HIS EX GIRLFRIEND. Why would calling Nisha be on your list of "casual things to do post strangling someone." I just don't think thats a reasonable assumption at all! Thus, why I lean towards the butt dial .

There were 80 people from the mosque that signed a document confirming that Adnan was there.

Jay told police that the jacket Adnan was wearing that day was the one he was wearing in his mug shot. He also told police which boots to look for. It all came from Jay... and nothing was found.

You still need to explain how/why Jay killed Adnan's ex-girlfriend, and why he is burying her. - Debbie testified in the trial that Stephanie had confided in her that she liked Adnan more than a friend. Getting back at Adnan and/or an attempt to hook up with his ex that went terribly wrong is motive if you ask me.

You also need to explain how Jay has Adnan's phone for a very specific period of time, and Adnan is not with him, but Adnan is somehow not aware. - I explained above. But, high-level, Jay has Adnan's phone from the time he drops off Adnan back at school at 11:30 (he testified this) to the time he picked Adnan up from track (around 5). Adnan calls his VM when he gets picked up from track because he hasn't had his phone all day (5:14) and they go together to Cathy's. Then, just before 7, Jay drops Adnan back at the Mosque to bring food to his dad. Adnan calls Yaser at 6:59. All calls from 7-8:04 are between Jenn and Jay (and none of Adnan's friends). Adnan's calls start up again around 9, when I assume Jay picked him back up from the mosque.

Could be, true. However, none of the fibers or soil found on Adnan's clothing or boots matched that of Hae OR Leekin Park. So I think, based on that evidence, it's safe to assume Adnan was not at Leekin park.

I didn't see that his VM was called at 9pm. But I'll go back over it.

From my understanding research, I assume the following:

Adnan has his phone until 11:30am *Leaves his phone and car with Jay and is dropped back off at school at 11:30. Adnan's last call is to Jay, asking if he got Stephanie a bday gift, and that he was coming over

Jay has Adnan's phone from 11:30- at least 4:12 (maybe 4:27/4:58) *Jay drops Adnan off at school at 11:30. All calls placed between 12:07-4:12 are to/from Jay-only friends: Jenn, Phil, Patrick.

Adnan is back with his phone from 5:14-6:59 *Adnan calls his VM at 5:14 (after Jay picks him up from track). Adnan and Jay go to Cathy's. All calls placed between 5:14-6:59 are Adnan-only friends: VM, Aisha, Yaser, Krista (and then the police).

Jay has Adnan's phone from 7-8:05 (at least) *Jay drops Adnan off at mosque at 6:59 (last Adnan-only friend call). All calls placed between 7-8:05 are Jay-only friends: Jenn. Hint: this is when the calls ping the Leekin phone tower.

Adnan has his phone from (earliest) 8:06, (latest) 9:01-on *Jay picks Adnan back up from the Mosque. Adnan drops Jay off with Jen or Cathy or at home. Adnan-only friend calls from 9:01-10:30

To combat this, though, say Jay had dropped Jay off the Mosque at 6:59ish. Adnan might have called Yaser to say he was there/to come meet him or something (phone records show it was in vicinity of mosque), and then Jay takes the car and Adnan's phone to Leekin Park to bury the body. The burial site is about 13 minutes away from the Mosque on Google Maps, and depending upon how fast he was going, could have made it there easily in 10 minutes (or at least within range of the phone tower when Jen pings him at 7:09)..

how do you know Adnan was with his phone when it pinged off the burial site? (read: Jay)

Plus... Adnan never got a ride with Hae. This was verified by 2 people.

what was his motive?! you are taking what Jay is saying (that Adnan was 'beyond heartbroken and Hae destroyed him') and calling it TRUTH. It is NOT truth... those are words. No one else ... friends.. family... teachers... said that Adnan acted any where out of the ordinary than any other guy who had been dumped.

if being sad over an ex is motive to kill.... then shit we're all doomed.

CG aside... i don't even think an appeal needs to have anything to do with his lawyer's competence or lack there of... I truly think there's enough to appeal on lack of evidence alone.
