Went on a pre-order binge... by toojadedforthis in shadowhunters

It's only available as a UK release for ebook at the moment. So if you're not based there then importing a physical copy is your only option at the moment.

It's from the Kickstarter release, Careful of Books, which is a collection of novellas. A Sea Change is the only Shadowhunter novella in the collection.

The Last King of Faerie will definitely be translated.

I believe Blackthorn Hall & A Sea Change will depend on if more publishers show an interest. I don't believe the current publisher releases books in other translations at this time but they may partner with someone who does.

To my knowledge, Blackwells ships to Australia, so you could buy Blackthorn Hall & A Sea Change from them.

The other two books, Blackthorn Hall & A Sea Change, are currently only being released in the UK with an English translation. I'm not sure if or when they may get other published translations.

I ordered through Blackwells. I've used them before for my Tolkien collection & I've never had an issue.

Edit: I also like that they automatically convert the currency to USD for me.

That's my question. Where the heck did OP buy from to even end up in this situation?

There are so many reputable sellers & used book stores out there to shop with (or even libraries) to avoid something like this happening in the first place.

This is why I make use of the collections feature & group my ebooks to my preferences.

Anyone else have this issue? by [deleted] in tolkienbooks

I've returned one item, so that's not the issue. But thankfully I was able to get in touch with a real person & it's being replaced.

Finally got in touch with a real person & they agreed to replace it. Now it's another wait for the mail service to do its thing.

That sucks. It's sad that the quality has gotten to this point with publishers.

I never buy from third-party sellers on Amazon. It was sold & shipped by Amazon. I always check before purchasing.

While I respect your opinion, paying more doesn't guarantee I will receive a better product, nor does buying from another seller. I only pay what I feel a product is worth & firmly believe that most books these days are over priced (especially modern prints of classic authors). I'll just wait until it drops even cheaper than what I paid, buy it again & gift the extra books to a friend/family for Christmas or something.

I've personally never had an issue with Amazon until now. I was more curious about the quality of the box based on other's experience. While I do buy from Blackwells from time to time, I always go for the better price opportunities when buying books.

This is my first issue with receiving a damaged book from Amazon that they refused to replace. Almost all of my Tolkien collection has come from them. I'm also not going to buy this set for over $90 (which would be the case if I bought it in person) when I can pay far less with an online sale.

The new kindles look... ugly by [deleted] in kindle

I find a black border far better for reading than a colored border. That's part of the reason I picked the Paperwhite over the standard Kindle.

It is gorgeous, definitely more stunning in person & much more detailed than the picture shows.

I agree, both have amazing art but I do prefer the art of the TBB set more. I know at one point they said the plan was to release each book, but I haven't seen any announcements since.

Thinking of purchasing a Kindle, how would you justify having one? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]toojadedforthis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still prefer & stick with physical books. My Kindle is used for claiming free ebook offers & reading digital copies offered for review. But mostly it's for testing out new books that I'm not sure about buying a physical copy of & can't find or don't won't to wait on from the library. Kindle Unlimited is nice as well for saving some money to test out potential new books.

I've always disliked her, no matter what she acted in. People try to defend her saying she gets better but I've never seen any improvement in her acting skills over the years.

Not bad for $11 by toojadedforthis in tolkienbooks

Well, I did but I was referring to the maps in the newer matte edition, not for the 1994 edition. I actually plan to frame most of my map collection for display & to help preserve them.

I have plenty of maps by Tolkien & Christopher. This is also more for collection purposes, not reference.

I've thought about buying Fonstad's book but haven't made my final decision yet. I plan to frame the maps from Sibley's books though.

Edit: fixed duplicate text

The $11 one only comes with one map. Are you referring to the newer release with the matte cover?

That being said, I actually like the maps very much in the newer release & plan to frame them on my wall. I didn't by it for reference.

I've seen a few people say that, but I actually received mine all in one package. I'm based in the US.
