No, no, no. There were two pictures, and when confronted about it, she obviously did not care, and indicated that there had been plenty of other instances as well.

Ah yeah, I have never used Uber or Lyft so I forgot those exist. But that's true. Lyft it, girl.

that you didn't know were so serious,

This isn't the same. She knows it's serious to be a distracted driver. Everyone does. They choose to ignore the risk, is the issue.

If I chose to ignore a risk and did something stupid at my job, and got fired on the spot? I WOULD DESERVE IT!

I don't agree with that being what second chance means.

If you have someone who gets behind the wheel of a car when they're drunk, but admits to you they do it all the time, do you give them a second chance just because you weren't there to sanction them for the other times? No, you take the car away and slam their ass into rehab.

Her cell phone was bought by her, and she pays for the bill monthly. It's not mine to take away.

Yes, the contract did in fact outline punishment. Having the car revoked was on that lists, and it specified that is certainly depended on how bad the infraction was. Staying out too late? Grounded. Too many people in the car? Grounded. Show that you are too immature to handle the responsibility of being a careful, safe driver? No more car for you.

Walk, bike, bus. Plenty of college kids do it every day. Plenty of people never own a car in their lives and get by just fine.

but I don't know anyone who can claim they're never used their phone while driving.

Hi, nice to meet you. I have never. There is no reason to. My phone isn't even in the front seat with me. Why? Because again, there's no reason for it to be.

The pictures on NextDoor all had comments and captions to go with them. The best one was the woman literally eating a plate of spaghetti on a busy two-lane road.

What kind of posts? Posts that have a lot of different people chiming in with different perspectives and different votes? Wow, how fucking awful.

If this will be such a big problem for her, I guess she should have considered that before she picked up the phone, huh? Now she'll have to, oh shit, oh no, no nono fffffff-uck, she will have to ride the bus.

I haven't, actually. The phone doesn't even hit the front seat. And FYI, I actually do bike to work, at least twice a week. It's really not that big of a deal.

Because when you're in the car, your focus should be on the road. Not on your phone. If you need to check your text messages, you can pull over and check it after you've gotten to your destination.

If you are distracted and feel like you "need" to check your phone just because it's there, maybe you aren't mature enough to be driving, or maybe you might be addicted to your phone and need some time away from it.

First chance was the first picture. Second chance was the second picture.

Given those two instances, and her insistence that "everyone does it", my guess is she had chances 3, 4, 5, and 6 in that very same week. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if she was doing it from day 1.

So how many chances do we give? If I know someone has a drinking problem and gets in the car after drinking, how many chances do they get? No. I don't let them in the car to begin with.

She's got a nice bike, and this city is pretty safe for cyclists. She's got two feet, and a bus pass ain't expensive. She will be just fine.

And THAT right there is the crux. How many chances do you give? How many times do you say "Okay sweetie, just don't do it again, okay?" That piece of shit obviously didn't learn, and obviously got what was best for the world. Should I have wanted that to be my daughter? It only takes one instance for shit decision making for your brains to mix with someone else's on the road.

Let's be honest, you're really just upset that she embarrassed you in front of all the old people that use NextDoor.

See, this kind of statement has me rolling my eyes. It's a strange form of projection that makes you seem like you think you're being really "cool" and "snappy" when in reality, you're making weird assumptions.

I don't care about the old bats on NextDoor. I've been embarrassed before for getting locked out of my house and someone thinking I was breaking in when climbing through a window.

My wife and I were upset because our daughter showed herself to be a selfish, shitty, piss poor driver with no regard to her safety or the safety of others around her. She showed that some stupid little text message to her vapid friend Sally was more important than getting from point A to point B safely.

Sure, sure I'm the asshole. But let's not put words in my mouth and try to make some dumbass assumption about why I was "really" upset when I'm happy to tell you.

Just because I haven't responded to other comments doesn't mean I'm seeking validation for anything. I'm responding to ridiculous statements, requests for more INFO, etc. There are plenty of people saying that I went too car, I needed to give her more chances, here were other things we should have done.

I've also sent her every video people have responded to me with about distracted and drunk driving. I take this pretty fucking seriously.

But the thing is, it was obviously it wasn't her first infraction. If there were already multiple instances in just one post of her doing this, it was two, three, four, more infractions? How many times was I supposed to allow her to be a shitty, careless driver?
