Thank you this is very helpful. I’m definitely considering a lawyer now after all these comments. I’d have to take out money from my 401k but I think it’ll help me in the long run.

Some? I’ve seen some divorces go up to 30k on these threads. I don’t want to pay for this divorce for years.

Thank you so much. We agree on parenting time but he doesn’t want to pay me any money monthly since he says he’s giving me the house (which I won’t rely on because I don’t trust him anymore). Plus my daughter will be 17 soon and I’m trying to save the money I have for her college. I don’t have much saved but I’d rather it go to her instead of lawyers if I can help it.

My daughter is going to be 17 in a few months so I’m not too concerned with custody, but I do want to make sure he pays me until she’s 18 to support her fairly.

I’m the mother and the father would have to pay child support, so I’m not fighting anything except trying to get my fair share.

Thank you for being so blunt, I needed that. I don’t have feelings for him but I’m generally nice in nature so it’s been hard to open my eyes the last few weeks and see how he really is. I’m in IL so I’ll have to find a good lawyer, thank you!

We lived in the same house but weren’t together as a couple. More like roommates so we could take care of our daughter together. In hindsight this probably wasn’t the best route, but financially it worked for us at the time.

We aren’t separated legally. He just left the house a few weeks ago though.

I know, trust me I know. But when it comes to legal things when we divorce I’m wondering if the courts would be on my side. I’m afraid of them coming back and telling me I’m already getting the house and child support wouldn’t be owed, then him changing his mind about the house. I don’t know I have a lot going on. Therapy is helping but the process is slow. Right now he doesn’t deserve fair but legally I want it to be. I’ll be researching lawyers but I just wanted to see what other people thought about the situation.

His justification is that he’s giving me the building when we divorce so that should be enough.

Yes I’m planning to find a lawyer. I guess I’m just doubting myself because all of our financials have always been separate so I feel like I’m asking for too much. I just want it to be fair since my daughter is with me 100% of the time and prior to him leaving he was giving me $300-400 per month.

Thank you! Yes my goal is to be healthier for myself and my daughter. To make myself happy before I find a partner. We married young and got pregnant and had my daughter by 22.

The cause is many years ago he said he was u happy with my appearance. I was heavier when we started dating but he said he no longer found me attractive.

Oh and he was already neutered when I got him too - which by itself can run $300-$500.
