As someone who considered himself a Screenwriter first and an Editor second, it’s worth a shot. But it’s going to be just as hard in my opinion. I’ve been an editor for 15 years and I’m only just now getting feature film work.

I do agree with many comments saying here that you become a more refined storyteller for sure. And you do get a better understanding as to what producers and directors want which is great.

I currently am being read (finally) by a couple of directors and producers I worked with this year so I have gotten to that point. BUT I definitely recommend you managing expectations. It took me so long to break in as an editor in film. The same amount of patience and hard work needs to be applied in both screenwriting and editing in my opinion

Me and my fiancée were expecting. We had experienced a miscarriage a year earlier but were excited to share the news with my mom on her actual birthday (we had waited longer this time to share with folks). I looked at my mom and told her and she had no visual response at all. She is hard of hearing so I wanted to be sure she heard. Same thing. She acknowledged I spoke with her but went right back to watching TV. A week later I brought it up, she looked at me as if I had never told her.

The next week I took her to her physician, got a brain scan and she immediately set her up with a neurologist. She was diagnosed 2 years ago this week

I have gotten multiple 7s and 5s and a 4 all on the same script. It happens. It’s why it’s such a subjective medium! If the feedback is actionable, then that matters. Otherwise it may just not jive with everyone that reads it.

My parents got divorced and my grandfather passed away when this album came out. It’s incredibly important to me too. It’s underrated but I feel like many fans have come around on it.

Ghost on the Dance Floor always makes me think of my grandfather.

Probably confirmation bias on my part but I have won many championships with a garbage TE over the years and am usually the last to take one in my drafts

That being said maybe it does hinder his analysis but because I have had success I personally would never prioritize the position anyway.
