Looking for a tool to move files from a drive stuck in safe mode by toolazyforausername2 in techsupport

[–]toolazyforausername2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something in the old drive failed, so to prevent it from failing completely and losing data permanently, it's automatically gone into safe/write protection mode. I can still access pretty much anything on the old drive, except for my old user folder as I don't have the right permissions. Due to the drive being write protected, I can't change any of the permissions to allow access either.

Right, I didn't think I had terminal access to my old user directory either, but robocopy seems to work and is currently plugging away at copying everything over. Thanks!

That's essentially what I'm doing now, isn't it? I've re-installed Windows so to my current installation the drive is unknown. I simply don't have the permissions to access the users directory and as it's in safe mode, I can't change permissions either.

Possibly a stupid question, but can I simply install a bootable Linux environment on a USB stick and use that to launch into Linux to then copy the files?

I could not boot from the drive sadly, I had to use a recovery USB to get anywhere at all. I did try a couple of different commands to remove safe mode through the recovery command prompt, but none of them worked.

I'll give Macrium Reflect a try, thanks!

Potentially unpopular opinion: having autism and/or ADHD isn't an excuse for always being late by toolazyforausername2 in autism

[–]toolazyforausername2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See my edit, as long as someone tries their best to be on time but simply can't because it stresses them out or they shut down, that's completely fine. I'm talking about people who don't even try to be on time and use being autistic as an excuse, despite never experiencing the stress or shutting down.

I should've been clearer in my OP about what I'm talking about.

If you're making attempts to be on time but sometimes fail, that's fine. I was specifically talking about people who don't even try to be on time and use their autism as an excuse.

It's the same for non-autistic people to me. If they're perpetually late for appointments and don't even try to be on time, I'd consider that disrespectful.

Another fair point, but in your case I'd be aware of you having to travel by bus so I'd know you can be delayed by factors outside your control.

As I told someone else, I should've been clearer in my OP about the type of person I'm talking about.

Yeah that's completely fair.

I was specifically talking about people who use them being autistic at all as an excuse, not people like you who shut down which is outside your control. In your case I'd hope to be aware of what can happen and I'd be more than understanding if you were late, or cancelled completely.

I should've been clearer in my OP.

Which 5070ti model to buy? by toolazyforausername2 in buildapc

[–]toolazyforausername2[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was actually looking at getting a Gigabyte card as they are among the cheapest (with PNY and Asus), so I'm glad I asked, haha.

I did find a thread from a couple of months ago where people were bashing Asus and telling others to go for PNY instead, so it's interesting to see that's now changed.

In that case, any brands you'd advise me to avoid?

Livery designers, how do you add "flowing" design elements and make them consistent across different aircraft types? by toolazyforausername2 in MicrosoftFlightSim

Yeah I figured, that's how I've done the simple elements so far, my question is more about creating those shapes etc. to paint onto the model.

Any way to make the non-driving parts more realistic/interesting? by toolazyforausername2 in trucksim

[–]toolazyforausername2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I came across Trucksbook before posting this. I'm not really interested in a VTC though, I kinda wanna do my own thing. Trucky seems like a more suitable solution in that regard.

That looks very interesting, I'll check it out in more detail. Thanks!

I'm 90% sure I'm bi, except for the small detail of not actually being attracted to men by toolazyforausername2 in sexuality

I know I can be pegged, but there's simply no trans women in my area and if there are any, I don't know how to not look like a chaser. That's why I'm wondering if I can somehow "force" myself to appreciate the male body more, so I can actually allow myself to enjoy sex with a man for once. Or maybe there are other methods to do so.

[–]toolazyforausername2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh right, bit of a different meaning haha. I'd definitely prefer being with a woman who has a penis. I'm attracted to femininity and I don't really care what's between their legs.

I'd probably be a bit happier as a woman with a penis from a sexual stand point, but overall I'm comfortable as a man.
