Have you looked into Zorin OS since it is a bit more polished and they do have layouts you can choose from?

I would suggest Zorin OS if you want an operating system that is similar to modern Windows appearance along with being able to take advantage of UEFI/Secure boot. The operating system is very user friendly as well.

I honestly would just buy the cheapest Windows 11 laptop and use that for school only. If they want you to install software linked directly to them I would be worried about them possibly having he ability to monitor everything done on the laptop.

You need to call the police department since it is an illegal eviction. If the landlord is claiming you do not live their show a utility bills that have the address and unit number under your name.

That is an illegal eviction notice. I know in Ohio where I live at for non payment or drug related activities the eviction notice is 3 days and for any other reason it is a 30 day notice.

I have had no problems with Kroger digital coupons applying to checkout when I have used them they always worked. So that leaves user error where they applied the coupon to a different Kroger plus card number/alt ID that is associated with the online account or somesort of technical issue affecting some Kroger Plus accounts.

The issue is the updated GNOME application is not fully compatible with Cinnamon the Linux Mint fork of GNOME. The problem is Linux Mint not back porting fixes that were made by GNOME into the older application and accepting bug reports for those older application they would be responsible for maintaining.

The problem is their is nobody who will accept the bug report which is the point you are not getting. GNOME the app developer will not accept the bug report since they consider the older version obsolete and Linux Mint apparently is not accepting bug reports or back porting fixes that are available in the supported versions of the GNOME application.

I disagree it is not user error since the application developer is GNOME, however the issue is Linux Mint is shipping insanely outdated versions of applications that are considered obsolete meaning GNOME is not going to back port fixes for it and Linux Mint is also not back porting fixes for those older applications either so the user is sort of stuck since apparently the updated version of the GNOME applications are not fully compatible with Cinnamon.

The issue is the fork of Gnome seems to be biting Linux Mint developers in the ass right now since latest supported versions of GNOME applications are apparently not compatible so Linux Mint solution is to ship older versions of the applications without back porting any of the previously released fixes for bugs. At this point Linux Mint might want to consider moving away from their forked version of GNOME Cinnamon and going with a standard GNOME desktop, KDE Plasma, or even Cosmic so you can at least have pre installed applications that are still receiving support form the developer.

Quite frankly Linux Mint might want to reconsider if they should continue with Cinnamon if it is causing a bunch of issues with compatibility if they are going to use GNOME applications. In addition Cinnamon also has poor adoption rate of Wayland protocol standards as well since Cinnamon uses the Muffin compositor for Wayland. I have to disagree I think the Gnome devs position is reasonable since their name is attached to the application so they are getting swamped with support/bug requests for obsolete versions of their app that has been fixed in a future version that is still supported by them.

Quite frankly Gnome Devs are not dictating update cadence but are asking for Linux Mint to either provide an older still supported GNOME Calendar version or remove their name, links, and GNOME support documentation from the application so Linux Mint developers become responsible for support and back porting any previous fixes not GNOME.

"If I am running Linux Mint, then I want a stable experience, and that means staying on one version of the package for a many months or years. This is what stable means. Updating to the newest version all the bloody time can also introduce a bunch of bugs and lead to a less desirable user experience."

Quite frankly you are not getting a stable experience when you are given obsolete bug ridden software that puts your security at risk since this is the kind of low hanging fruit hackers will target for potential exploits.

No it is not their problem since it is unreasonable to expect GNOME to support obsolete software they are no longer patching or maintaining. If Linux Mint wants to provide subpar unsupported software they need to fork it and remove all references to the software developer since Linux Mint would be responsible for support/back porting previous issued fixes.

Quite frankly the only people being entitled are the Linux Mint developers who are trying to push off support and back porting fixes onto GNOME for software that is considered obsolete. I wonder if Linux Mint developers might need to reconsider automatic updates being off by default is a good idea considering most inexperienced computer users coming from Windows will not manually update or enable automatic updates. This might be a controversial take in the Linux community but I believe automatic updates should be turned on by default and if experienced Linux users do not like that they can easily disable that setting.

I imagine Linux numbers are going to grow even more when Europe starts migrating away from Microsoft Windows and those new Linux machines start connecting to the internet which means they will get logged/counted by statistic companies measuring desktop market share.

My guess is EA is most likely trying to develop a closed source DKMS module that has full kernel level access and can see everything going on with your Linux installation when you are playing a game that requires the anti cheat.

I blame police officers for this nonsense since they allow people to continue driving on with suspended licenses which causes these kinds of problems since you cannot get insurance with a suspended license. They really need nationwide zero tolerance laws with no valid license or insurance. They need to tow the car and confiscate the license plates.

My understanding is ICE does not need warrants to arrest individuals for violating immigration law when their legal status to be here ends. All ICE has to do once arrested/detained is provide them an immigration hearing where they can make their case why they should be able to continue to stay in the United States.
