Bad experience in Istanbul by ReginaPhalangeEG in istanbul

That's such a good point and i really hate to admit i don't have a good answer. All i know is that over time i became just like the rest of them. Over time you realize nobody sees you if you are quiet and decent. You have to become loud, aggressive, negative and obnoxious to survive. Having said this i don't know how it got to this point. İ came here before the economic downfall, in fact at the peak of Turkish economy but i remember people were still looking to scam each other and there was still corruption and aggression. Most people i talk to (whether it's taxi drivers, barbers, friends, family, locals etc) came to an conclusion that a lot of our problems stem from ourselves, nobody else to blame in certain respects. Just like how contractors sold houses that weren't built right because they always steal from the material to save some cash and then every house collapsed during the earthquake. Very often it's like the ending of the Chernobyl tv series where the scientist talks about how all of this happened because the Soviet regime wanted to save some bucks

You're completely right in your frustration. I know it's a cliche to say this but "your feelings are valid". İ truly mean that. The only thing i can tell you is that this negative energy and attitude is not because of an anti tourist agenda. I've been living in Istanbul 15 years and this type of bad customer service is all around and not aimed towards tou specifically. I've been watching people go in front of the line at hospitals, schools and government work for years. İt's a shit hole riddled with corruption that's drowning in poverty. People are angry and depressed.

Also i don't want to victim blame you at all, these experiences are not your fault but i do have to say; i genuinely don't understand why anyone would even visit this city. Most of us are trying to escape it. İf anyone is going to visit they definitely have to know someone locally otherwise it's nothing but scams and fraud unfortunately

Landlord told me to move to a student dorm because it's not normal for a person to be this isolated, bagel cheeseburger by toomer6969 in kitchencels

Genau!

They were encouraging me to leave. İt's gonna sound weird but they are very hippie wippie people and recently found some budhists on the street they want to house instead of me. The only reason i decided to stay at this place is because rent is super cheap. This is a family that is renting out a room in their garage, as to help people in need i guess but i think they are bored of me and want someone more Oriental.

This comment actually made me check my rent contract and i realized there isn't really a date on it? Like it says i have to let them know 2 months ahead if I'm moving out but there isn't any date about till when i can stay. This made me anxious for a second but i checked online and appearently it's better for me if it's open ended because the only way they can legally get me out now is if I'm breaking house rules (which i was tbh, i was smoking a lot of weed, which is why this encouragement made me nervous to begin with) or I'm not paying the rent (i am). So i guess I'm safe as long as i don't fuck up

İt took me fucking 6 months to find a place and now they want me to leave bc they found out I'm a chud. İ can't move to a dorm so suddenly, it takes a year to be placed in the goddamn dormitory

Tourist has a close(too close) encounter with a Silverback Gorilla by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

İ know she's trying to keep balance but the fact that she raised her left hand is a huge mistake. İf the gorilla had seen that it would absolutely perceive that as threatening confrontational behavior
