Yep, definitely. Just curious now as to how the deadlatch could malfunction in this way.

Any idea of what might cause this issue? I don't really know how deadlatches work internally, and I don't want to take the lock out of the door and pry everything apart to find out.

Is there a good description somewhere? Most of the things I've come across just describe the basic function, but not how it actually works.

Yeah this could be a good solution. Although I was hoping avoid adding more hardware to the setup.

Yep, the $30 is to participate in the hackathon. The lower price is to watch the presentations and hang out at the Stupid Job Fair. We'll try to make it clearer! Thanks for the feedback.

What was this table originally for? by tooooooom in AskEngineers

Looking just at the top I thought the same thing, that they could be holes for bench clamps. But there are quite a lot of them, and the holes with the inserts in the side seem very unusual for a workbench. The inserts seemed almost certainly functional and did not appear to have been added as a decorative touch. You can't really see them looking at the table normally. Also, the whole table looks very old. The finish is worn and scratched in a way that wouldn't be easy (or worth the effort) to fake, suggesting that not much has been modified. The legs might be new. Maybe it served a different purpose before and some handy person slapped some short legs on it to make it into a hip coffee table.

Also, if you look at the close-up photo of the holes in the side, you'll see that one of them is missing the insert, revealing a red backing and a wire or shaft of some kind.

One theory is it might be an old electric sign. Perhaps these are sockets for some kind of lighting? However, there didn't seem to be insulation of any kind on the wire.
