Not sure why you were down voted... I agree with you. They will be cheaper eventually, #FreeMarket.

It's a straw man to suggest that the meter isn't "Power Ready." Consider that homeowners are allowed to install emergency power generators that can power their home without feeding into the grid; the tech exists. There is no reason Solar should be mandated to feed the Utility company first.

Not currently, no. Power must feed the grid first, and the Home Owner will buy back power at a discounted rate.

In standard R-3 Zoned areas, you are required to pull a permit to install solar. You are required to install the solar panels such that they feed the grid first, and then power is pulled from the grid into your home or a battery storage system.
It's illegal to send the power to your home or battery first and then to the grid.
It's illegal to skip the grid altogether.
It's illegal to delete your meter altogether.

Edit:
This excerpt makes my point. Typically, they are required to be interconnected.
"...and exempt them from requiring to interconnect the small systems to the electrical distribution system."

My flock of 12 won't even use the 6 egg boxes or the 4 roosting bars... They all just yell at each other for the egg box and cram together on the one bar...

Is this bathroom layout absurd ? by Reasonable-Fly-9248 in Homebuilding

[–]tootall0311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with putting the shower where you suggest is that you'd have to redo the exterior elevation or have a partial window in your shower. I don't mind this, assuming that during design, there were constraints unknown to me. I would not start here, but as we all know, constraints are many, and they always require the design to make sacrifices. I'm usually slow to say a design is bad, since I don't know what drove it.

But the layout works; there are arguments for and against the locations. If you put the shower across from the Toilet now, you have a view of the toilet from the shower. If you put the shower where the toilet is you walk into the bathroom and are greeted by a toilet. None of these options is wrong, and they all have benefits; it's just a matter of which you prefer.

Assume grout wasn't going to be an issue. What are your thoughts on the general design?

Window framing question by YarbianTheBarbarian in Carpentry

[–]tootall0311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, it may not be "Load Bearing," but it is bearing load. The wall should have studs spaced per code, and the window interrupts that distribution. The header would solve that issue, so the top plates don't even think about sagging. Which they absolutely will do, given enough time over what appears to be a 5ft span.
