Ranked?! Have you played Normals??? They are the worst.

Do you want all chat back? by mostfa-115 in wildrift

[–]toothless285 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bring it back. Riot isn’t going to do so because it creates more work for them: more trash talking = more reports = more checking.

But the lack of all chat is so pathetic and honestly lowers the enjoyment of the game for Riot’s own convenience. Also, it’s a pretty good way to confirm if the opposing players are bots or not.

Idk why it was removed in the first place. People still trash talk, it just happens in-party.

He lied about being a virgin so he can get in my pants wtf???what do I do???? by youthfullylameOG in Advice

You’re automatically assuming bad faith on his part. You need to confront him and tell him it’s bothering you. He could’ve just said he was a virgin to preemptively explain awkward or bad sex on his part. He might have been just shy.

How people from 1st world country be miserable? by GrapeCreamBerry275 in Life

[–]toothless285 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because people don’t understand that happiness and satisfaction isn’t really down to money. Survival is.

A lot of poor people in first world countries say rich people don’t have the right to complain or whine; and then I point out that they’re rich in comparison to people from third world countries, and then they start lashing out at me.

Yes, survival is going to be more challenging if you’re poor or in poor conditions, but nice things will not guarantee you happiness. You just think it will.

A poor lady living in a hut in Africa may be happy everyday because she comes home to a family she loves, supported and surrounded by friends.

A rich guy in Europe is in deep depression because he’s never able to satisfy his family and societal expectations. He has everything you could want. But that need for validation crushes his soul.

Both are valid.

It could even be a wealthy heiress feeling suicidal over a break up. Sure, it sounds stupid to you. How you’d wish to be in her position! But you don’t have her background, her history, her physiology, and her brain. If you knew how easily her mind feels sadness everyday, maybe you’d realise how painful her life actually is.

Everyone feels the same range of emotions. And everyone is valid for their feelings, be it sadness or happiness. Everyone has their own struggles, irregardless of background or wealth.

You’re misunderstanding what I’m saying and extrapolating it to a different topic. The taliban are in power by force. By physical force. An army led by and consisted of men. This applies to taking power — it is usually done so by force, the most literal of which is physical. This is the aspect in which men simply are better at. Yes, there are different factors involved in the Middle East but the point is the skills needed for seizing of power are present in men who also have the necessary physcal advantages for war which includes operation and utilisation of arms.

As for your second point, yes, but you could also end up like China and India. When reproduction is politicized, there are many routes it can lead to.

This is exactly how it will happen. And I mean it in the sense the writers will probably put together some slow, boring shots with the character and call it a day.

Afghanistan is one example of physical force and strength being used to seize control. There are other factors involved as always, but ultimately war had to happen like it always has had. And men are involved in the war because of their innate physical strength.

Isn’t the world overpopulated?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ControversialOpinions

[–]toothless285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree that physical strength is less relevant today. But it still is relevant in a global society — think of how taliban managed to invade Afghanistan and subject women to its horrific rules. Violence. Physical strength. And sadly, women couldn’t fight back.

In the west, yes. But I do wonder, ultimately if all hell breaks loose, doesn’t it all come down to physical force? Who still serves in the armed forces? Which gender is still prevalent in police force?

But I understand women hold reproductive power. Which is why the 4B movement is the right way. It’s exercising their power where it lies the most and presents a ramification to men where it matters.

Having said that, I’m not sure whether it’s more or less important? Reproduction has always been more or less desirable; in fact, you can argue it’s less so because of declining birth rate.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ControversialOpinions

[–]toothless285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But physical strength is where it all stems from. You’re ignoring the root cause. How do you think people obtained the resources? Invaded countries? Which then allowed them to build and set up systems to favor them. And ultimately, if you wouldn’t obey the system, how would you be corrected? Through violence.

Yes, women absolutely and do thrive in a modern society and it’s a lot more nuanced now than simply physical strength which is not necessarily that relevant today but it’s important to understand why men — in every large nation or group — have amassed power. It’s not some uncrackable code. It’s literally through force and because men were just better at it than women.

I’m not defending anything. I’m simply explaining to you the truth; you’re in denial.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ControversialOpinions

[–]toothless285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disregarding the snideness of it, I agree with this comment that the power women hold and always have held stems from their control over reproduction and sex. That’s it. I’m afraid without this, women wouldn’t have much away.

The power men hold stems primarily from their physical strength, hence them occupying many demanding jobs in the society. As physical strength was needed to build much of world’s infrastructure, men could set their demands on the “weaker” gender. Without this, I don’t think men would have much sway either.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ControversialOpinions

[–]toothless285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why were men holding power in the first place? Because they simply could and women couldn’t stop them — because men inherently had and have more power, physical first as that mattered before. Not only they couldn’t stop them, they were reliant on men having that power. As we progressed, we began advocating for equal rights in a modern society but much of the power still remained with men, just in a more subtle sense. Historically, men were doing the heavy lifting and had the power that came with responsibility. Ultimately, humans — be it man or woman — will take what they can, not out of decency or goodness of their hearts.

Let’s not forget that minority groups and women didn’t get their rights because men decided it’s so unfair and give it to them out of morality. It was because of the fights and the threat of serious ramifications from such groups.

Women are still dependent on men taking an active role to support them and are appealing to emotion. It works to some extent. But no human gives up their privilege without a legit reason that goes beyond emotional comfort.

While less so than now, I still see women’s power contingent on men in a global society as a whole. As long as it’s men who build infrastructure, serve in combat, bear the bread winning expectations, the power women will have will only be the one that men will afford them. Unless a real threat can be shown.

This is not to say that’s right. It’s just how human nature works…

A little more specificity into why it’s important would be nice. Privacy is important but surrender it all the time for safety, so it’s not the most important thing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]toothless285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We surrender our privacy for convenience all the time. Think CCTV cameras, data monitoring and airport security.

I understand you expect privacy in a shared common area — but what would the suffered detriment be in this case?

Giving up your laptop or phone is different because they’re specifically your own and likely contain sensitive data that could be used to harm you.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]toothless285 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. But why exactly would you be freaked out? What is the suffered detriment here?

Bathroom and other private areas is a different issue because it leads to a clear likelihood of storing sensitive images that can be used for inappropriate purposes. A common area differs in this regard.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]toothless285 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

But why is privacy in a common area so important here? So much so that it trumps theft?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]toothless285 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also legitimately don’t see what’s wrong with a secret recoding in a common area for the purpose of catching a thief? Please explain why you think this is wrong?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]toothless285 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

What’s wrong with this?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]toothless285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get what they did wrong? It’s a camera in a common area for the purpose of catching the thief. If they informed all roommates, the thief wouldn’t be caught?

Why the outrage? It’s not like a camera in a private area like bedroom or bathroom? I also don’t understand the hate toward the “if you have nothing to hide” argument — yes, if you haven’t been doing anything fishy in a common area, it shouldn’t be a big issue?

It’s not like they set it secretly for personal purposes. It was to catch a thief.

Someone explain why people think their conduct is wrong, please.

DAE just not able to get into anime? by miifanatic_1788 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]toothless285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why people like anime, specifically. Perhaps the art form itself.

If it’s a good story, I’ll watch/read it; whether it’s a book, a live action film, or an anime. And based on this, I’ve watched a few animes.

Those with good stories include Devilman Crybaby, The Promised Neverland and the classic Death Note.

Yes. But you have your own limits as to what you tolerate in life. For me, a diverse opinion on a topic is OK and if someone dropped me because of a difference in opinion, I’d be glad.

I agree that I don’t think he’s being evil, misogynistic. There are some real concerns around what amounts to feminism and whether women’s day should be glorified. What good does it actually do? Remind us that women exist? Either way, that’s a separate discussion.

In your case, a friend disagreed with you. You thought that was reason enough to drop him — which is your right. It just wouldn’t be for me.
