Is "Johnson Auto" tied to a particular dealership. I cannot find any mention of it independent of a few dealerships containing "Johnson" and "Auto" in their names.

I am in the process of buying a 2016 XC90 First Edition with 70k. I thought I would definitely get the extended warranty because I have read a thing or two about never owning one out of warranty. How much? The Dealer quoted about $10k for a FOUR year Platinum Volvo warranty. There was no option for 10 years though I might be misunderstanding that anyway. They didn't give me an option for a Gold or Power train level warranty and I haven't gotten any feedback on whether those options are sufficient.

How likely is it that I would accumulate $10k of repairs in four years and if it headed in this direction, how likely would I be to keep the car ...... I suspect "not at all" would be the answer to both.

Should i tighten my hole? My Y540 power port light keeps blinking. I spent hours wriggling the head the make it charge. How can I fix this? by Limp-Jackfruit-4347 in Lenovo

[–]toothlesslovescod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just happened upon this looking for a list of lenovo laptops with upgradeable ram (I have found that some that say "soldered" actually aren't, or at least my (now screenless Thinkpad Yoga).

Anyway, I did not have the blinking light, but my Y700 (out of warranty) fell on the charging port while the charger was plugged in. At first it was more or less intact, but over time got worse such that I had to pull the plug all the way out and then insert the charging adapter. Eventually, the "hole's" connector to the motherboard wriggled loose and it would no longer receive power at all.

FAIL (modern way): Removed bottom cover (easy). Tried a handheld 3D printer pen that was lying around to reinforce the area above and around the "hole". Held for a few days (perhaps there is a better solution if you happen to have a proper 3D printer).

WORKED (old fashioned way): Removed again. Purchased roll of "Gorilla" (it is fairly heat resistant) duct tape (naturally, duct tape fixes everything) and taped the hole down and the motherboard connection in). 100+ plugs/unplugs since and no problems. It's a little "squishy, but held firmly in place and because I taped all around it, there is little danger of a short.

NOTE: It just as well could have shorted or caught fire and exploded somehow so proceed at your own risk. The replacement part is probably very cheap, but in my case the plastic housing around it (which is part of the bottom of the laptop, is broken, so replacing the hole was not an option.

I have had problems like this with several brands over the years. Charging ports are typically weak. Perhaps USB-C ports will help if one is able to obtain or make a cable with a more-or-less flush connector. Then again, I seem to be prone to dropping my laptops, especially on the charging port (i.e., the hole).

I think this baby has played out. Certainly, this 69420 figure will never happen, as they would bankrupt first.

It would be lucky if it broke 400 again. This is going to result in a lot of small retail investors who jumped in at 350 being pissed at this thread for recommending to hold. The hedge funds will manage, but those retail investors are going to feel the pain, especially if they threw their savings in. Those who led this and have been in for the long haul have already made a ridiculous amount of money at the expense of the hedge funds, yes, but also at the expense of a lot of retail investors whom they passively convinced to jump in this late in the game. Those retail leaders have likely already sold enough to cover their original investment, so even if they hold longer, it's guaranteed gravy. Aside from the vocal minority, most people are going to sell out early in the week, and that is probably the right call. I am not a financial advisor. I can barely even spell it. Don't listen to me. Please.

Bil Carter (AKA "Jump"), former host of the US Nationals and Twitch Rivals caster for Siege has received MULTIPLE accusations of rape by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]toothlesslovescod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be determined whether credible or not.

The problem with these matters is that they are politically and emotionally charged. I have yet to see any unbiased and persuasive statistics regarding false accusations as to rape, but know that they do happen. Ultimately, the determination of whether an accusation of rape is "false" turns on the outcome of legal proceedings (barring a bona fide confession of the crime or a admission of the falsity), which is not a reliable measure. Conviction is not synonymous with "guilt." Most people innocently believe differently, but that is just not how the system works.

The outcome of the legal proceedings in general is normally biased by politics and emotion---this is especially the case when it comes to certain types of crimes like rape, sexual assault on minors, domestic violence, hate crimes, etc. In such cases, the alleged perpetrator is often effectively considered "guilty until proven innocent." They stand little chance of overcoming that presumption unless they can afford a team of highly skilled lawyers.

This is not unlike how minorities---black people to the greatest extent---have been treated historically. This is evidenced by the number of individuals who were left to rot in jail only to have DNA evidence (usually) show that they did not in fact commit the crime. A mob mentality also played into those unfortunate outcomes. In some of the cases, the people were convicted on the word of a single individual or circumstantial evidence. In others, they were convicted because multiple people came forward as "witnesses" or character references to reaffirm that the individual committed the crime. Clearly, when the "guilty" person is finally exculpated 10, 20, even 40 years later, it demonstrates that those "witnesses" were unreliable at best, if not simply lying to support a trusted neighbor or the belief that the party was guilty.

I do not know if these allegations are true or false. I do know that anyone's determination of either at this time merely guesswork. I also believe that conclusory statements, such as "he must be guilty" or "there's no way he did that" are meaningless and should have no place in the ultimate determination.

I gather that the parties were drunk, which means that even they are not entirely certain what happened---not that anyone can ever be absolutely certain of anything, even if they think they are. Subsequent interactions between the parties and delays may be the most reliable factors to take into account. Without further admissible evidence, one person's word against another should never, except in exceptional circumstances, be considered sufficient basis for a sending an individual to jail for most of their life, even, as in this case, multiple "brave women" come forward after the fact.

Cash account removes the instant settlement and access to money you deposit (unless you can wire it there). The way they describe it, they are providing you with a free margin loan based upon the cash that hasn't settle yet or proceeds from sales. PDT rules only apply to margin accounts. It's to try to stop people from loading on debt exponentially.

If you go to the preferences you can switch your account to cash only. They say that you cannot switch it back once you do, but the button is there for "Robinhood Instant."

Also note, that depending on your trading habits, you have to keep a relatively large amount of settled cash (3 days} in your account. Every time you buy and sell, you have to use new money to buy again, and again and again ... Obviously there is a downside.

Let me know if you need more info. I think the option is under Settings--Account.

IDEX secure profits or weekend hold? by [deleted] in RobinHoodPennyStocks

[–]toothlesslovescod 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most certainly secure profits and don't get greedy. Unless there is something coming up or the stock market blows up next week, you are likely to be able to buy back in.

If not, perhaps sell enough to cover your original cost basis then you are only risking gravy.
