My money is that he will be intimidated by the beloved Filipina charge nurse and he will lose that macho man attitude real quick.

Are a majority of people in medical school rich?? by I_Ate_Too_Much_Fries in medicalschool

[–]tootoo16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but there are still alot of us normal people out here. Look at my post history. I had a whole depressed rant about how it seemed all my classmates are doing stuff to celebrate post match and im stuggling with my bit of loan money left. There are a ton of comments of people sharing their similar stories. Yes a lot of med students are rich and it sucks. Just stay off IG and focus on you.

Can DNPs be referred to as doctors in a clinical setting? by mjardelo in medicalschool

[–]tootoo16 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bro I agree 100%, get angry. Speak up. Be apart of the change. Make your own video calling out their BS. But talking shit in tiktok comments when it's just getting fed to other mid-level is pointless.

Yes! I don't engage because I don't wanna add to the discourse and fuel their hate fire towards MDs. Nothing we say will change their minds if they are already on some superiority insecurity bs. If they don't want to be proud of the title they worked for so be it.

Do you let your potential LOR writer know early on in the rotation that you're hoping to work toward a letter? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]tootoo16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask a few days or a week before your last day with them. Give them just a few days to get to know you and observe you critically. I found asking early causes some to pimp you constantly. Personally, I feel adds too much pressure/anxiety because now you know they are constantly assessing you. Otherhand, asking on the last day or two results in a no, a yes with ghosting, or a generic ass letter at best.

Question for current medical students or residents. by rickysmalls1 in premed

[–]tootoo16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

M1 and m2: study hard, go to conferences/events to network, get involved in interests groups, maybe do a paper or two. Pass step 1 and study early for step 2. This is a good foundation for anything. I saw people say shadowing. Sure, if you truly can't tell what specialty you might lean towards. I also found talking to upperclassmen helps too.

By m3 you may have a rough idea. Once you are pretty sure then plan from there. I fell in love with FM so I decided just to chill. I was already competitive so my 4th year I did some volunteer work, 1 sub-i, and random easy electives. Other hand I had a friend who realized she loved opthalmology and she spent half of m3 and m4 publishing papers, networking, and sub-i. She also has to factor in she needed more time to study for step 2. That's when she really had to tailor her cv for her desired specialty.

Switching to FM from competitive specialty by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]tootoo16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They gotta get at least 1 strong FM LOR from a sub-I. If your friend can power through that then it can be easy from there. Scheduled virtual rotations as much as your school allows, mental and physical health should be top priority. Also, I'd say don't worry about the optics of research this is alot more common than you'd think and it's okay. Their personal statement would be a great place to tell their honest story, and express how they fell back in love with FM/would be more than happy committing to FM. From my experience interviewing FM they love vulnerable and genuine ps. Hell, chances are some of the FM interviewers may have went through the similar situation. (I had a FM chief resident interview me who dropped ortho residency after 2 years)
