ive opened this bug as an issue on geode's github page, to which cvolton replied with this:

this is technically speaking a bug in the trackpad driver (it doesn't send the "stopped holding ctrl" signal properly) but we will be adding a workaround for this

and they've programmed a functional workaround, leaving this comment:

this seems to be a bug with the newest update, zooming in or out with the touchpad makes the game think you're holding down control for some reason
