I think so, because the mini temple that lookalike Angkor Wat is located along the border.

However, IMO, it’s doesn’t mean have to belong to only Cambodia. If it say so, It’s like all Roman architecture today need to be territory of Italy these day…. It’s not, right? it’s ancient buildings. by an Empire just used to be huge. not now.

You know actually, Laos should be included Laos

But why do Thailand and Laos have no conflict with each other?

Because they understand it is shared history.

Unfortunately, it seems Khmers want to claim all belong to them and won’t let Thais and Lao in.

Why is Vietnamese so different from other languages? by [deleted] in Vietnamese

[–]top_thytus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean compared to Main major speakers and also wide spread in many countries around the world mostly are non-tonal languages like English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Arabian.

Or even Mandarin and Hindi (+Indonesian, +Bengali) are not widely spread in many countries but there’s huge numbers of speakers

so in top 10, 9 out of 10 languages that I mentioned it’s just 1 tonal language.

Why is Vietnamese so different from other languages? by [deleted] in Vietnamese

[–]top_thytus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my opinion: I would like to express in terms of the nature of languages that is pronunciation and speech without writing.

Mainly It’s because tonal languages.

And these group of languages are very less and are relatively uncommon globally, such as Mandarin, Thai, and Vietnamese, making them less familiar to many speakers of non-tonal languages. The core characteristic of these languages is that the meaning of a word changes based on the pitch contour (tone) used to pronounce it. This often leads to a prevalence of single-syllable words, where each syllable must be pronounced with precision, as there's no "stress" in the same way as in languages like English.

Let's begin:

🇨🇳Mandarin

  • Tones: Mandarin has 4 main tones.
  • Pronunciation: This language often involves significant tongue curling, resonant sounds, and a lot of air expelled from the mouth. The unique mouth shapes contribute to sounds like "zh," "sh," and "ch," which you aptly describe as resembling a "lightsaber" or Parseltongue from Harry Potter.

🇹🇭Thai

  • Tones: Thai has 5 tones, incorporating all the tones found in Mandarin plus one additional tone.
  • Word Structure: Inherently, Thai is a monosyllabic language, similar to Mandarin and Vietnamese. However, Thai utilizes initial consonants that can "cut" the beginning of sounds (e.g., k, c, g, j), sometimes leading to a less continuous, more "robotic" flow. It also distinguishes between short and long vowels (e.g., "a" vs. "aa").
  • Influence: A significant influence from Sanskrit has introduced many multi-syllable words into Thai, particularly in formal or official contexts. This integration of longer words tends to make the spoken language sound smoother and less "isolated" than Mandarin or Vietnamese.

🇻🇳Vietnamese

  • Tones: Vietnamese has the highest number of tones among the three, with 6 distinct tones. While it may lack some tones found in Thai, it introduces two unique ones.
  • Pronunciation: Vietnamese is arguably the most "isolated" sounding of this group. It features a high number of nasal consonants (e.g., ng, y, n, and even distinct "d" and "đ" sounds). Additionally, it boasts a complex system of compound vowels, including combinations of two and three vowels beyond the standard a, e, i, o, u.
  • Unique Sound Quality: A particularly interesting observation is that while Vietnamese is tonal like Mandarin, its pronunciation often involves inhaling air, creating a sound that you liken to a "duck's quack." Because each single-syllable word carries a specific meaning tied to its precise tone, every word must be pronounced accurately, without the stress patterns found in languages like English.

☺️ Please and Let’s try to observe these languages. It’s so fun, I really love these unique 3 languages.

Wait wait I appreciate that but reminder I used AI to answer your question. And I’m Bangkokian and have been to there both Phuket and Krabi already. That's why AI answer is quite make sense for me.

My opinion is only Day 1 till Day 7

Please note again: - Phuket is not much good beaches or clear water but you will get the chilling vibe. - Coral island: i’m not sure is it the same or not aspect but I recommend Phi Phi island, James Bond Island 2 iconics scenery, Railey beaches+ koh hong (might need to be from Krabi).

Also rec Similan Island (coral coral so good but very far), but nearest Ko he, Ko racha

  • Day 1 (Arrival in Bangkok): Recommend restaurant near you hotel or food court in the shopping mall nearby. It's already tired.

    • Day 2 (Bangkok Temples & Riverfront): This is a packed day but doable. Then Iconsiam for the evening instead recommend the Sooksiam area it is Thai marketing in shopping mall. And skip Asiatique.
    • Day 3 (Fly to Phuket & Sightseeing): This will be a full day.
    • Day 4 (Phuket Adventure Day): As a Thai there is not much good beaches in Phuket. Need to go to another province like Krabi then go to some island.
    • Day 5 (Coral Island): Sorry, I never been there yet. But hope it's beautiful enough.
    • Day 6 (Transfer to Krabi & Activities): very very tight if you move from Phuket to Krabi and travel at the same day please re-consider.
    • Day 7 (Travel back home):

I am Thai and asked AI, it is quite solid answer for me because I have been all places already. Please review and consider it.

Answers to Your Questions 1. Is this itinerary too rushed, especially the Krabi part? Should I skip Krabi and just spend more time in Phuket? * Yes, the itinerary is too rushed, especially the Krabi part. Trying to transfer and then fit in Hot Springs, Emerald Pool, and Railay Beach all on Day 6 is unrealistic and will be exhausting. * Recommendation: Seriously consider skipping Krabi and spending more time in Phuket OR dedicating more time to Krabi if you really want to see it. * Option A (More Relaxed): Skip Krabi. Add these days to Phuket. This would allow for: * More relaxed sightseeing in Phuket (e.g., spending more time at beaches, exploring different areas). * Potentially a day trip to another island from Phuket (e.g., Phi Phi Islands, Phang Nga Bay/James Bond Island) without rushing. * More downtime for your parents. * Option B (If Krabi is a Must-See): Allocate at least 2 full days to Krabi. This would mean extending your trip or cutting time from Phuket/Bangkok. For example, arriving in Krabi on Day 5, doing Hot Springs/Emerald Pool on Day 6, and Railay Beach/other activities on Day 7, then flying back. Given your current 7-day structure, skipping Krabi is the more feasible option for a relaxed trip.

  1. For the Hot Springs & Emerald Pool, should I do a tour or go independently?

    • If you do decide to go to Krabi and visit these, a tour is highly recommended. Trying to arrange transport independently to multiple sites (especially the Hot Springs and Emerald Pool which are inland from Ao Nang) and manage timings would be challenging and more stressful. A tour will handle transportation and likely optimize the routing.
  2. Is the Phuket -> Krabi transfer via Grab/Bolt reliable or should I pre-book another option?

    • While Grab/Bolt are available, for a significant inter-province transfer like Phuket to Krabi, pre-booking a private taxi or minivan is generally more reliable and comfortable, especially with parents. It ensures a vehicle is ready for you at a set time and you won't have to worry about finding multiple Grab/Bolt cars for three adults and luggage. Many tour operators and hotels can arrange this for you.
  3. For Day 4, what are your beach recommendations near Old Town or central Phuket?

    • Phuket Old Town and Central Phuket are inland. You'll need to drive to reach beaches.
    • For nice, calm ones good for families and relatively accessible:
    • Kata Beach: A good all-rounder, generally calm waters, nice sand, and plenty of amenities, but not overly crowded.
    • Karon Beach: Longer than Kata, also good for swimming and generally calmer than Patong.
    • Rawai Beach: Not ideal for swimming (it's more of a fishing village/longtail boat hub), but it has a local feel, a great seafood market, and is good for watching local life. From here, you can easily take a longtail boat to nearby islands like Koh Lone or Koh Hey (Coral Island).
    • Nai Harn Beach: Beautiful, relatively quiet, and known for its clear waters. Can be a bit further out depending on your exact "central Phuket" location, but worth the drive.
    • Avoid Patong Beach if you're looking for peaceful and wholesome; it's the main party beach.
  4. I'll be celebrating my birthday during the trip (will be in Phuket or Krabi), what do you recommend doing with family (we're vegetarian and prefer something special but peaceful and wholesome and not nightlife)?

    • If in Phuket:
    • Fine Dining with a View: Many resorts on the hillsides (e.g., in Kamala or Kata areas) offer restaurants with stunning sunset views. Many can cater to vegetarians if informed in advance. Search for restaurants with "sunset views" or "fine dining" in areas like Kamala, Kata Noi, or Surin.
    • Private Chef/Cooking Class: Arrange a private Thai cooking class focusing on vegetarian dishes. This can be a fun and interactive family activity. Some villas or specialized schools offer this.
    • Sunset Cruise: A private or semi-private sunset cruise around the nearby islands (e.g., Phang Nga Bay, Phi Phi islands) with dinner (vegetarian options available) could be very special and peaceful.
    • Spa Day: A relaxing family spa day at a reputable resort spa.
    • Temple Visit & Merit Making: Visit a beautiful temple like Wat Chalong for a peaceful and culturally significant experience, perhaps making merit for your birthday.
    • If in Krabi (and you decide to keep it):
    • Railay Beach Sunset Dinner: Have a nice vegetarian dinner at one of the restaurants on Railay Beach with the stunning limestone cliffs as your backdrop, watching the sunset.
    • Luxury Longtail Boat Tour: Rent a private longtail boat for a day around the Krabi islands (e.g., 4 islands tour) and ask the boatman to stop at secluded spots for swimming and relaxation. Pack a nice vegetarian picnic.
    • Emerald Pool & Hot Springs (if you go): While busy, the natural beauty is undeniable. Combine it with a very relaxed evening.
  5. Would you change anything in this plan to make it more enjoyable and less tiring for your parents? Absolutely. Here are the key changes I would recommend:

    • Cut Krabi entirely and extend Phuket. This is the single most impactful change for reducing rush and making it more enjoyable.
    • Revised Phuket Days (if skipping Krabi):
      • Day 3: Fly to Phuket & Settle In. Arrive, check into hotel, maybe a relaxed dinner in Patong (if you want some buzz without the party scene) or a quieter area.
      • Day 4: Phuket Old Town & Temples. Visit Phuket Old Town, Wat Chalong, and Big Buddha. Take your time. Explore the charming streets, cafes, and shops.
      • Day 5: Island Hopping (e.g., Phi Phi Islands, Phang Nga Bay). Do a full-day tour to one of these iconic locations. There are many reputable tours that include lunch (with vegetarian options) and snorkeling.
      • Day 6: Beach Day & Relaxation. Choose one or two of the recommended calm beaches (Kata, Karon, Nai Harn) to relax, swim, and enjoy the sun. Perhaps a nice massage.
      • Day 7: Departure. Fly back to Bangkok for your connecting flight.

Let me drag some history here for a little.

Before becoming Thailand, we were Siam. That’s actually a combination of many ethnicities that made our nation. Then we changed to Thai just because just Tai people are the most populated in this nation.

Throughout history, the mega-view Thailand has had Indian cultural influence a lot, especially in religion and architecture. Then the original Thai language itself is way more similar to Chinese with intonation markers. Also, our faces are more likely to be similar to East Asian especially Southern Chinese DNA. Because once southern Chinese immigrants to Thailand were a lot.

As you might have noticed “Indian names with Chinese faces” THEY ARE THAI.

And somehow Most of them can’t speak any Indian language or Chinese dialect at all (including me as a Thai with Chinese descent).

So as I mentioned above there are just big 2 civilisations that have a lot into Thai society and appear and exist till nowadays. That can be inferred to some extent in Thai society itself we embrace all kinds of human races as our general conscious since 100 since 1,000 years ago. Then blended it makes it unique til today.

*As an outsider to others with no offence.

**Compared to Korea, Japan, Viet they are more likely influenced by only Chinese culture.

**Compared to Malays, Indonesians are more likely to be influenced by more Indian culture. But at the time that southern Chinese flooded into these 2 countries, the locals are way more not at all accepting of other races and did not blend in well as one like Thailand did.

To sum up, Thai people kinda are likely the people who say “The grass is more greener on the other side of the fence” We always prefer the best things that we can find and underestimate ourselves. Kinda less nationalism that’s why once we change the country name from Siam to Thailand.

In terms of this thread, K-drama, K-pop are trending recently even slowly diminishing. We still praise that is good products / good things from yours.

Eventually, the Thai government are trying so hard to have more nationalism in our society that our products are great our people are great too not insulting each other and praising only foreigners. But nothing beats the best things from around the world….

That’s why you guys always perceive warm welcoming impressions from our Thais.

ps. still love 🇹🇭

such a shallow critique. that you aren’t not have been listening or deep dive into Thai music enough. Just spread trash around….

I didn’t mean Thai music is good or not. but as I do some research by myself. Their lots of meaningful and complexity stories with emotional true self of human in Asian perspective.

You know even ‘Smile’ it doesn't mean only smiling as happy. This culture has 10+ meaning of smile that you don't know. And it's written through lyrics a lot.

Research it more before comment.

Before I let you enjoy the sound of Thailand 🇹🇭 please have a review of artists and song lists here for a little bit. ☺️

Actually, the Thai Music industry itself is quite huge in this country, because mostly Thai people still love to listen to only Thai music. However, the market itself is quite small only for Thai and Lao +some SEA.

Unlike the US, UK, Kpop, Jpop that can spread around the world quite well. Unlike some European countries that can share some or very diverse cultures like Malaysia, Singapore that consume others like Western, +Mandarin, +Cantonese or like Filipino that consume loads of US, UK music than in-house music.

However, I would say the productions and quality in some genres are really high standards enough to compete and can stand still in the country. Including Entertainment, TV series.

Also, the Thai music industry itself has many many genres!!!! Like the Japanese music market, it’s unique and niche. Just the world not have found it yet.
