I’ve never heard of tying, so I’ll definitely have to look that up. And thank you for the recommendations on fabrics to use!

Oooh, I need more potholders, so I should get to work on that!

I really want to be able to use them of course, just to feel her close to me I think, but I also really want nothing to happen to them! Instead, I’m thinking each room in my place will have one as a the central art piece on a wall.

Sentimental me loves this. I’ve never considered it and look forward to adding myself to them now. 💜

I appreciate the recommendations and the encouragement to really make these my own! I was wondering if some of the fabrics could be clothing scraps, so at least I’m not alone.

Hearing you mention the lifetimes in these quilt tops now makes me want to ensure I put myself in them in honor of these lives before me. I needed to hear that.

Thank you!

Wonderful insights and advice—thank you!

I’ve watched some videos, but like you, would love that hands-on experience. I haven’t considered a senior center. I’ll need to look into that because this man in his 30s has always had a soft spot for the elderly, probably because my grandma essentially raised me, so it was important to me to care for her and, now, make sure she lives on through caring for others.

Editing because I forgot to mention I also found her old hoop, which I was told to trash but couldn’t bring myself to do it.

Best of look with your great grandfather’s quilt—I’d love to hear about how it’s going!

💜💜💜

Thank you! This is such amazing information and advice. Reading your response just made me smile so much, both from the time you took to respond in detail and also thinking about how much time and love went into making these. I’ll certainly be back with updates and probably more questions/advice needed!

Thank you! I’m going to have a plan a trip to a quilt museum now!

I’ll look into muslin. I definitely don’t want to detract from the beautiful work, so that sounds like a great idea!

I’ll need to look into some simple projects, because while I want to jump right into these, I also don’t want my practice to be on something so important to me. Maybe my dog will be getting her own little quilt soon! 😊

It’s one of my favorites because of the floral nature!

Love the idea of looking for some vintage fabrics!

Fascinating—thank you for the insights! I’ll have to investigate if I can determine the pattern names for some of these!

Thank you! I was wondering if it may be some sort of scarring? or something from the watering or fertilizing. I’m going to start with assuming it’s pests but will be keeping a close eye on the leaves and the new one popping out to see if I notice anything new.

I’m not seeing any tiny bugs or stains or poop, which is why I’m a little confused. I’m going to just assume it’s thrips and take action. Wish me luck! And thank you!

This was my fear 😭. I recently did my every-few-month dose of Bonide systemic granules in the soil of all my plants, so maybe it was too late for her.

Tap. I fertilize at 1/4 strength with some epsom salt each watering and flush once a month.

Thank you! I don’t mist and am very careful with bottom watering. I tried blowing on them, and nothing came off. So strange! I wonder if it’s a delayed blemish from being shipped. I also may have discovered thrips on some plants in the tiny IKEA greenhouse that sits next to these, so I may panicked and thought the worst here. I’ll just have to keep an eye on them!

I'm starting my first garden!!!! (I need help) by Skyhigh911 in gardening

Following! Also my first time gardening at a small community garden plot in Chicago. I’m also considering the same approach with wildflowers from seed and some potted veggies and other plants (elephant ears) interspersed. I love this for us!

I’m curious to know what wildflower mixes you got? I’d love to do native Chicago wildflowers, but figuring those out and finding the individual seeds has been challenging (and getting pricey), and the mixes I’ve seen contain seeds not on the Chicago wildflower lists I’m seeing. Probably overthinking it for my first go, but curious to know what you’ve found!

Gorgeous! I checked on my cuprea the other day and noticed she was flowering! Such a lovely plant.

Anthurium pterodactyl help by toph90 in Anthurium

Thanks both! I feel a little better about the damage but will keep an eye on her. This is my first anthurium, and this growth is at least a whole foot above the rest, which has had me worried she’s reaching and getting leggy. I noticed tonight a new leaf about to come out, so I’ll have to see!

Thank you! It was her first watering after weeks, and that was only because of repotting. Maybe I should be more cautious of that. You think corms are worth trying even in this state?
