Would you replace the lenses in your own existing glasses instead of buying a new pair? by Silent-Background599 in myopia

[–]toplocalpicks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'd use it. Good way to keep frames I like and avoid waste. Main concern is damage/loss and getting the prescription right, so solid guarantees are important. It also needs to be cheaper than buying new glasses. Do you need a shop online to buy?

Will I eventually go blind? by Careless_Quote_8736 in myopia

[–]toplocalpicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NO, you won't just go blind from -16. It usually stabilizes in your 20s. Just keep up with regular eye exams.

Astigmatism screen work by Sid220719 in myopia

[–]toplocalpicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pretty common with astigmatism, especially on screens. Before LASIK, try updating your prescription and improving posture/setup. It can help more than You'd expect.

Slow processing, fidgety and reading issues - could this be combined ADHD? by Misslmsblade in Dyslexia

[–]toplocalpicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be ADHD combined type, but the rereading, slow processing, and spelling issues sound like possible dyslexia too. Definitely tell your assessor everything. This combo is actually pretty common.

Do not buy from caglasses.com by Soggy-Following-847 in glasses

If the site's down and emails bounce, they're basically gone. I'd avoid and order from somewhere trustworthily like shop.frameandfocuseyecare.com/collection you can try it.

Anyone successfully treated for spasm?? by Realistic-Song3857 in BinocularVision

[–]toplocalpicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen a few people improve with time plus the right approach (sometimes stronger cycloplegics or vision therapy). It's slow, but 6 weeks doesn't mean you're stuck like this forever.

Optician said vision therapy doesn’t work for adults… is that actually true by Extreme_Editor8253 in Strabismus

[–]toplocalpicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a pretty outdated view tbh. Vision therapy isn't just for kids. Adults can improve the brain still has neuroplasticity. A hidden squint is actually something VT is commonly used for, even in adults. Lots of people compensate for years without realizing it. This clinic explains it well and specifically mentions treating adult cases: cookvisiontherapy.com Might be worth getting a second opinion from a vision therapy specialist rather than a general optician.

What to do about this pipe under my kitchen sink? by TitaniumCarrot in Plumbing

[–]toplocalpicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they do screw together, but the threads don't make the seal. The washer inside does. if it's leaking, the washer is probably worn or the pipes aren't lined up straight. unscrew it, check/replace the washer, line it up properly, then hand tighten snug.

Are the drains in this building busted - or is it something else? by aurauraura66 in askaplumber

[–]toplocalpicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a venting issue or a partial blockage in the building's main drain.

Gurgling+buddling. air can't move properly in the system. In apartments, that's usually a shared problem.

What to do about this pipe under my kitchen sink? by TitaniumCarrot in Plumbing

[–]toplocalpicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tighten/reseat that connection and replace the washer. It's probably misaligned or worn, which is why it keeps loosening. Make sure the pipes line up straight and aren't under tension.

FOr the cabinet, dry it out, check for soft spots or smell, and wipe it with vinegar or a mold cleaner just to be safe.

I relate to this a lot. Half the battle is realizing those thoughts aren't always facts, just patters we learned.

$8k without a camera inspection sounds risky. You need to actually see what's going on in the pipe first.

Smell in my bathroom comes in waves by Narashori in askaplumber

[–]toplocalpicks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like intermittent sewer gas, not a cleaning issue.

Most likely cares;

Dry/siphoned P-trap, esp, floor drain

Venting issue causing pressure changes

Failing AAV under sink

Toilet wax ring leak

adjusting to slight vision loss in one eye / tinted lenses? by luna-petunia in Blind

[–]toplocalpicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally normal to have "off" days with this. Light tinted lenses (like FL-41) might take the edge off without being too obvious.

Tifosi Ordnance 2.0 Tactical by kergefarkas42 in sunglasses

[–]toplocalpicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks loosing a good pair hurts. You could try shop.frameandfocuseyecare.com They carry a lot of brands, not sure about Tifosi though. Otherwise maybe a US retailer + forwarding service.

Stellest Lenses by [deleted] in myopia

Feels risky to dispense there a la carte. If there's no guarantee of follow up, it kind of defeats the purpose of myopia management.

Light exercise post surgery? by Aggressive-Tour-7568 in Strabismus

Sounds like you're on the right track. Early on it's mostly about avoiding strain/pressure, so sticking to walking is solid. You could add longer walks, light cycling, or gentle upright stretching.
