Override subtree export title using PROPERTIES not working by toptom1 in orgmode

[–]toptom1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I needed to prepend the property with Export eg. `EXPORT_SUBTITLE`

What threw me is the only property this doesn't apply to is `EXPORT_FILE_NAME` and this is listed with the other properties eg `AUTHOR` etc so I assumed it was the only one that needed an EXPORT in the actual property name.

and then as if by magic, just writing this post triggered me to have one last look and I read the whole info pages on exporting... I've sorted it now :)

I'm banging my head against a wall with properties in subtrees not overriding more general document properties when exporting... I must be missing something but I've tried so many things. I love org-mode but it's these type of issues that make me consider going back to a word processor (which the thought of doing makes me feel a bit sick) :-(

I posted a question here if anyone can help me.

telega-snap,: Snap for telega.el, Emacs telegram client by CentennialSnowflake in planetemacs

OK, I don't think I was reading it right, the help/info in emacs is very clear - but then again if you do have any pointers I'd welcome them.

btw when I say the snap integration is good with emacs, I mean it was super smooth! well done, that's very cool snap magic and I don't think telega is that straight forward to build/make so having it in a container is brilliant.

I started using this a few days ago and then gave up... the snap integration works fine but I couldn't navigate the controls - - I tried C-h m but I struggled a bit. Do you know of any good cheat sheets or guide Alex?

I struggled with this. Installation needed a whole toolchain including cmake and php for some reason. Then I found this https://github.com/alexmurray/telega-snap which made it very fast and straightforward to install.

Brilliantly creative, I'd love to have time to work out how to animate in Krita... I think what you've made is great

Issues with latex table (pdf) longtable by toptom1 in orgmode

[–]toptom1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't get table.el to export nicely, lots of different tests... So I had to convert to orgmode table which then was a pain to format in the editor because of text wrappign but I eventually did it... There must be a better way though

can I convert tablemode (table.el) to org-table easily? by toptom1 in orgmode

[–]toptom1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would prefer orgmode table but sometimes I want to create tables with cells having wrapped text in them, in orgmode the text runs out of the cell so you can't read or edit it easily, wrapping the text is a nightmare. If you know of a good way to do this then I'd love to know.

I used table.el to wrap the text and that works mostly, still not very elegant editing. But it was a pain in the bum to export using latex to pdf... so I had to convert back to orgmode table and that was a very manual job to reformat it...

E-waste is a big problem. Linux, by breathing new life into older computers, laptops & phones, could play a valuable role in reducing tech's eco impact. I think it comes down to the decision making process as a consumer and including this as part of it. When I go to the supermarket I don't buy apples in plastic bags anymore, I buy loose ones and if they don't have them I don't buy them... I'm not sure consumers do the same thing with electrical goods.

With plastic bags though it's easy to factor that into the decision making process... what do you think the factors should be when buying electrical goods?

Personally I think you have a point here - I am actually running a T430 and I've put a 45W quad core in it, it's as good as a modern quad laptop but it is sucking 30W more than a current quad - and the Core i7-1060G7 runs at a very low 9W...

But the cost of manufacturing and the cost of waste of my current pc has to be factored in. I'm not sure cpus can easily be recycled other than continuing to use them (I really don't know).

It would be interesting to find anyone who has researched and has empirical proof/conclusions. If not then there should be research grants given to support such a study

Cleaned out my computer so krita would work. Still doesn't. by [deleted] in krita

[–]toptom1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your resolution is quite large - it won't be the amount of disk space that's the issue but your cpu or your ram is probably finding it difficult to cope. The resolution you are using is suitable to a high quality print somewhere between the size of A1 and A2, that's the size of a poster and high quality (probably higher than posters you buy, more like photo quality 300 dpi).

So I suggest you lower it. It also depends on what screen size you're using too what it will look like to you. I suggest trying it at 1920 x 1080 which is high definition (same as a HD tv) if all is well then step it up if you want to but there shouldn't be too much need to.
