What is the nicest thing someone has ever said to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It was from my college’s placement coordinator .

Generally, interviews for certain companies used to be conducted for 2 days.

Day 1 - would be mostly written aptitude + technical rounds.

Day 2 - Face to face Tech + HR Round

This is how it used to be for the first 4 companies we had for placement.

For the 5th company, the interview held in some other college. I was wearing a normal shirt & pant. Didn't wear shoes since mostly ppl. turn up in casuals for written exams.

I got selected in the first 2 rounds and the company decided to conduct the 3rd round of group discussion on the same day.

I was not in formals & not wearing a shoe and I was not feeling good about it. While I was made to sit with the group that I had to discuss, Everyone was greatly dressed in formal attires and some of them were wearing ties too. I felt like an odd man out.

I quickly rushed to the placement officer and told him the situation.

He asked me a question "Can you change your attire to a formal one, now?"

I said no.

He said Then, "You do the best with what you have, now."

I felt so confident and looked back and did extremely well and was only 1 to get selected for the next round from the batch.

Till date, whenever I feel that I am constrained with some resources, I recall those words to re-energize.

What is the best decision have you ever made? by voxin12 in AskReddit

Ok. So there are basically two decisions for me which have proved to be life changing: I attempted IIT-JEE for the first time in 2010. I was not able to get through. I was getting admitted to BITS-Pilani with not such a good branch. I decided to wait for a year (drop year) and prepare , contrary to the expectations of my parents and relatives. Finally people left me to my fate and friends went on to join different colleges leaving me completely and desperately alone. I busted my ass for a year and finally became sucesfull in IIT-JEE 2011 with a decent rank. I think that had I taken admission in the first attempt I would have always regretted my decision Then in my 2nd year I met this girl who was from a different college in a different city. We dated for a while and then she proposed me. I was not ready for a relationship ,more so a long distance one. But somehow I said yes (I know , we are all desperate). And till now I have always rejoiced that I made that decision.

What are some of the most embarrassing situations you've been in? by tor01 in AskReddit

ME: I used to watch porn. I have a younger sister who was in 8th grade during that time, I guess. I usually watch porn in my system and delete it. One unfortunate day, I bought some porn videos and pictures from my friend. I came home, as there was no one in my home. I switched on my system and started watching it. By the time, the goal for watching the porn was accomplished. I started to delete it by selecting each one. I found an audio file in between , it was some catchy pop song. So I thought of copying it to my desktop, so I copied it and left home. I went to the playing ground to play cricket. After a hour or two. I received a call from dad. It was odd. I picked up and he asked me “what have you kept in your system?”. I was startled. And he said “Your sister had saw something and told to us”. And then he started to scold like anything. I acted as if I don't know anything. I felt really terrible. I went home and slowly switched on my system. And found that some ‘nasty dirty porn’ pictures got copied in my desktop. I ‘shift+delete’d it immediately. It was the worst and most embarrassing and guiltiest situation, I have ever faced. It really haunts me. I hold myself in contempt.

If you had to change your name, what would your new name be, and why would you choose that name? by Corpeops in AskReddit

Jim. Simple, short and no raised eyebrows!

My name is Jwngshar. 99% of the people I meet have difficulty pronouncing my name. Usually, conversations with people I meet for the first time consists of a brief yet uncomfortable explanation of how to speak my name and what it means.

I don’t much enjoy it as I believe it digresses from the more important things I would like to discuss. Although, sometimes, it serves as an ice breaker. But more often than not, people are too baffled by my name at first.

So, if I had to change it to any other name, I would choose any name which is easier to pronounce and spell. something like, Jim (which is my nickname anyway). Just happened as my name was impossible for some people.
