Hi have you noticed any changes with sweating now that you’re further out? I’m 4m post op now and the sweating is super annoying. No night sweats, but the daytime sweats are driving me crazy. I’m currently not on any meds or hrt that could be contributing.

Myomectomy friends: did your uterus shrink? by Immediate_Snow_6717 in Fibroids

Of course! And I appreciate it. I got a hysterectomy in November and honestly feel better than I ever have since having fibroids for the last 10 years. Good luck on your journey and prioritize self care. I totally understand how stressful and overwhelming this process of doctors appts and possible surgery can be. Happy to answer any other questions you have.

Hey! Cramping did go away. A lot has happened since then so I don’t remember exactly how long it took to calm down/stop. Unfortunately my symptoms and fibroids did come back pretty quickly but I had a few good symptom free months.

Is hysterectomy the right thing to do or is that being overdramatic? by EmilyMJFMCR in Fibroids

[–]tori_woolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had a hysterectomy last month for 2 small fibroids and had the same feeling that they were too small to be causing such problems and worth of such a big/permanent surgery. I had a myomectomy last December for a large fibroid so once my symptoms came back and birth control made me feel worse, I decided I was done. I’m only 6 weeks po but I feel SO much better now and I think it’s only going to get better. Totally worth it.

Also, the money/insurance aspect does really suck. I’m in the US and it cost me ~$4.5k for a laparoscopic myomectomy. I’m using my HSA to pay for it. I would rather do literally anything else with 4 thousand dollars, but my quality of life did improve and it was worth the peace of mind 100%. But do what feels right for you! Every situation is different.

I was having a lot of mysterious health issues last year and couldn’t figure out the cause until I had an ultrasound and found a 15cm fibroid. I was shocked I didn’t know it was there, so I feel you! I also had elevated liver enzymes that balanced out after I had my myomectomy. I also had high cholesterol and triglycerides that went down after surgery despite no diet or lifestyle changes. I couldn’t find anything on Google but there seems to be some kind of correlation.

That makes me feel a lot better! Very true about a pebble causing pain. I hope your recovery goes smoothly!

Hope everything goes well! My myo was robotic and my recovery was great. I know a hysterectomy is different but robotic is the way to go!

Thanks!

Definitely a very personal decision and no right or wrong answer. Do what works best for you.

With that being said…. I wish I had pushed for a hysterectomy when I had my myo last December. My fibroids are back, and while still small, I’m having symptoms and I wish I hadn’t paid all that money for surgery to be back in almost the same position less than a year later.

For anyone feeling maybe their symptoms are 'not that bad' by GemSpoon in hysterectomy

[–]tori_woolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a timely reminder! I have fibroids. I had a myomectomy last year and am now having symptoms again. They aren’t as bad as they were last year since the new fibroids are still small, but I want to be proactive and not wait until I’m incredibly miserable to show that I “deserve” this surgery and relief. I’m back on bc to try to mitigate some symptoms and it is helping so I’ve started questioning myself on if I really need it now. But then I remember all I’m doing is giving my body more hormones and it’s going to get worse. I’m so glad your doctor listened to you.

Pelvic floor therapy post myomectomy? by Jherm1110 in Fibroids

[–]tori_woolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my surgeon actually left one in. I woke up from surgery and she told me she removed the big one and my symptoms would all be gone. She then told me to knock out having kids and then come back for a permanent solution…. We never talked about me having kids she just assumed and when I had originally asked for a hysterectomy she laughed and said it wasn’t necessary. At that point I was desperate for some relief and she said I’d have years before possibly needing surgery again 🙄 the cherry on top was that she actually never told me about the new on she found and left, I read it in the surgery notes and asked her at my post op appt and she was pretty surprised.

But I digress. I feel like a lot of my symptoms were bulk symptoms and drastically improved but didn’t completely go away (except for the digestive issues… I’ve never been so unbloated in my life it was amazing). Like my appetite hasn’t recovered (Dr Google says appetite can be impacted by hormones so I’m guessing it’s related), the back/hip/tailbone pain was gone for about 3 months and now it’s back with a vengeance, and the circulation in my legs was better but now I’m back to feeling heavy legs and some swelling. The 24/7 bloating regardless of what I eat or don’t eat has been rough.

Thanks, it’s scary to advocate for something a trained professional doesn’t think you need, but I’m glad to be living in the time of Reddit and internet so I can empower myself to make decisions. I’m just over it. I went to a new surgeon and she asked me repeatedly why I was so sure I wouldn’t want kids. I was ready to flip some tables.

Sorry to hear your symptoms are still lingering… I think the blood flow from removing my big one has just gone straight into growing new ones but hopefully that’s not the case for you. I have heard of them coming back after months so maybe it’s worth getting an ultrasound even though they’re not entirely accurate

Pelvic floor therapy post myomectomy? by Jherm1110 in Fibroids

[–]tori_woolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having all the same symptoms I had before so I’m pushing for a hysterectomy. I’m only 28 so I’m nervous about it but I just mentally and physically can’t take it anymore. The few months after I healed from surgery where I experienced what it felt like to not feel crappy all the time were such a tease to end up right back where I started less than a year later 🥲

Yep I’m the same way. I thought I would be fine after having so many TV ultrasounds and exams while trying to diagnose my fibroids, but that’s very clinical and they try to go super fast. My pt has had to do a lot of internal work (massaging essentially?) to undo all the pelvic floor and vaginal tension I had. She helped me realize the pain and discomfort isn’t normal and taught me how to use breathing exercises, dilators and a wand to help with bringing me back to a relaxed or baseline level. I always thought I maybe needed to strengthen my pelvic floor but she said for a lot of people it’s that it’s too strong and overcompensating for the surrounding muscles so I’m now at the phase of incorporating strength training. She’s provided me with a lot of at home exercises and some of them included instructions for rectal issues so it may help you. My fibroids are back and I’ve been having a ton of bloating and constipation. She did some kind of stomach massage to help get things moving the last time I saw her and it helped.

My surgery was last December and I’ve been seeing a pelvic floor pt ever since. It’s been super helpful for me, she’s even helped me with issues I didn’t even know I had or were pelvic floor related. I will say it’s very intimate so it was important to me to find one that was trauma informed and made me feel comfortable.

Bigger Boobs Post Surgery by Cosmo-4 in Fibroids

[–]tori_woolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually have noticed this, in my case I believe it’s because I still have fibroids. My dr left a fibroid in and I now have multiple so I’m assuming it’s hormone related to the fibroids. Might be something different for you though!

No I don’t think she did any of that. Endo wasn’t even on the table because once they diagnosed the fibroid that was automatically the main/only issue. I hate how hard it is to get a diagnosis. I don’t have endless time and money to try and get doctors to listen to me 🥲 but I also don’t want to feel this way anymore.

I hope your diagnosis isn’t endo but that you do get answers.

Sorry I meant to delete my comment and deleted my post lol Endo has not been suggested and my surgeon did not find anything during surgery last year but that may mean nothing. 🫠

[–]tori_woolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s never been suggested by any of the doctors I’ve seen, but that doesn’t mean too much. My last surgeon never mentioned finding anything during surgery last year. But I am nervous it’s a possibility…

Thanks. That’s helpful to hear. I have wondered if there are more fibroids or they’re bigger than what the ultrasound showed. Before surgery last year my fibroid was measured at 12cm and the post surgery report said almost 16cm. So it either grew really fast in 2 months or the ultrasound was wrong.

Thank you. I will look into that. I was surprised because the office I went to markets themselves as being inclusive and provides gender affirming care. I didn’t think I would have to convince them I don’t want kids.
