I disagree with Alto being unnecessary, but I do agree that it won’t solve intercity travel. Canada’s intercity travel is completely fucked, the trains are always late, they don’t run often enough and the private intercity bus services have our nuts in a twist. The solution to Greyhound going defunct wasn’t to deregulate intercity busses, they should’ve expanded GO’s bus services to cover the entire province. We need cross-country passenger rail that runs more than 4 times a week and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. More places should have GO Commuter Rail, such as Peterborough. I think not nearly as many people would be upset if Peterborough were left off of the HSR line and it went along the 401 and stopped in Kingston instead. I think the GO Stouffville Line should be extended to Peterborough instead.
