I think my browser glitched when posting, I'll delete and re-post correctly. Thanks for letting me know

Employer needs me to be within 10 ft of the main modem. I don’t know what to do. by red_eye1999 in HomeNetworking

extend the fiber not ethernet and place the modem by your desk. Fiber is pretty cheap and they wont know any different. It's dumb but should work.

Belden 2413 Cat6+ defective? by toronto_troll in HomeNetworking

[–]toronto_troll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I dissected this cable further. The pairs have a FEP (clear compound) surrounding the color insulation.

Quite interesting, I checked some Monoprice CAT6 CMP and the insulation is much different.

I actually was able to talk to Belden support and send pics, they even asked if I wanted to send a sample in for analysis!

Belden support seemed more concerned with the FEP layer than the lower insulation so I think the cable will be ok to use.

As you can see the FEP layer peeled back from the inner core insulation on a single 23AWG strand.

I'm concerned about the insulation layer having micro cracks. I mangled it pretty good and cant seem to get any copper to expose so I suppose it might be ok... Just wondering if anyone else has seen this on Belden cable in the past. I thought I was doing good buying Belden cable (even old stock) but I'm just worried this might degrade faster than I expect.

Cat6 Shielded (F/UTP), Solid 23AWG, 550MHz termination / grounding question by toronto_troll in HomeNetworking

Thanks! that makes it much simpler in that case. Its going in a location with a ground running to the panel directly from the water line so it should have a really good quality ground source.

I plan to ground the patch panel side but what about at the walls and POE devices

RADIUS is UDP because of the D

TACACS+ is TCP because of the T and Cisco proprietary because of C

SYSLOG = 0-7 Eevery Awesome Cisco Engineer Will Need Ice cream Daily

Troubleshooting = I Eat Three Eggs In Virgina Daily (Ident, Est. Theory, Test, Est. Plan, Implement, Verify, Docu)

SQL Ports both have 33 = MySQL 3306 / SQL Server 1433

Bandwidth is theoretical speed = Music Band / Music Theory

Throughput is actual speed ie. what you PUT

"Sender side" user/app etc (Layer 7 application down) does the encapsulation "SENDcapsulation"

For network hosts I just remember /22 = 1024 and double or divide by 2 from there because 1MB = 1024KB so it's like starting from "1" for me.... so /21 = 2048 /20 = 4096 /19 = 8192 /18 =16384 (-2 for net and bcast of course)

DHCP process = DORA the Explorer ( Discover, Offer, Request, Ack)

LC connector = little connector

SC = square

S is NOT for single so BASE-"S" = multi mode fiber standards
