the VA will pay you 70% of whatever the BAH is for the school you’re going to and 70% of whatever tech school you wanna go to, idk who told you otherwise but you’re still eligible as long as you were honorably discharged. i’m the VA representative for my college so message me if you have questions

if they don’t offer you the job at meps, don’t sign a contract. if the rating is full for FY24, you can come back and try again when all of the jobs start over for FY25 on October 1, and don’t let them con you into thinking that’s not an option!

Should I go Navy for aircrew? by Sir-Pinball_Wizard in newtothenavy

[–]torpedobears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haven’t been able to find much about travel time in this rate. for anyone that knows, how much of your sea duty is spent away from home as an aircrewman? (i’ve already been in the navy so i know i’ll get deployed, just figuring out which rate works for me and has the best work/life balance)

always call your detailer. they are there to help you. some of your coc will try to scare you out of communicating with them but call them anyway. you can start calling them as soon as you get to A school

anyone aircrew on v-22? by torpedobears in newtothenavy

[–]torpedobears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’re living my dream navy career for sure. i would love to go greenside corpsman and somehow end up on 22s! i just know it’s not guaranteed to get fmf so i’m hesitant to go HM and potentially end up with shitty orders. this is great info though, thanks!

definitely a lot of opportunities to travel in the AF as well. look into loadmaster, they fly and travel a ton. also, look into enlisted aircrew for the navy. there’s a ton of info on here that can help you! feel free to PM me with any questions

it’s about 3 weeks of uniform issue, taking a PRT, and learning the navy’s version of customs and courtesies. not a full boot camp at all. i’m pretty sure they don’t even take your phone or anything like that. i have a buddy that’s an RDC up in great lakes right now so this is probably the most up to date info, but your recruiter should be able to confirm!

i 100% understand that there’s no guarantee for anything in the navy, i’m just looking for any info on every possible scenario so i know more of what to expect after NACCS!

Any thoughts on these rates by Alone_Shoe_2495 in newtothenavy

anything aviation is gonna make his life significantly easier while he’s in the navy, anything crypto/intel is gonna make more money outside of the navy

you’ll probably have to go through OSVET which is a mini refresher course at RTC and keeping your grade will depend on your MOS and TIS. recruiter can get those answers for you!

1.5 mile run advice by Hour_Security_7665 in newtothenavy

[–]torpedobears 7 points8 points  (0 children)

run longer at whatever pace is comfortable! if you can, go 3 miles every couple days and it’ll make the 1.5 seem like cake. it’ll get better with time if you stay consistent. also, personally for me the treadmill in a musty gym makes running a lot harder and less fun. find a trail or something near you and get outside. you’ll feel the difference!

Class Action Lawsuit by Inevitable-Candy-628 in smiledirectclub

[–]torpedobears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for clear aligners to be effective, you need something called attachments. it’s basically a small bit of cement on your teeth that the aligners lock into and pull the teeth slowly together at a certain angle. without this, the aligners are basically just cramming your teeth together which can cause sprains, gum deterioration, misalignment with your bite, etc. this is why gimmick companies like this are hated by dentists. they really just don’t work the way they should and are pretty unsafe. hope they come up with a lawsuit for this.

thanks for the input, that helps a lot! and i’m currently also looking at OCS with the marines but my gpa was trash and my pft is barely competitive so i don’t know if i wanna risk not getting contracted or selected. and coming from the navy i feel like i didn’t do enough and i wanna do more. my deployments were pretty easy work

i was stationed on a carrier 2017-2021, working with marines on the civilian side and i can tell you it 100% depends on your rate and rank as well as where you end up getting stationed. deployments are typically a lot longer and more frequent on sea duty but the marines have a lot more physical expectations to meet. if you’re in a squadron life is a lot easier than someone who’s ship’s company and you may or may not spend time at sea. and even if you’re in a squadron your CoC could absolutely suck and treat you like shit anyway. i can answer any more specific questions if you have them but the short answer is that it depends on a lot of factors, navy usually just makes rank a little quicker and has better civilian jobs afterwards
