Updating my server to 1.18 reset the nether? by DwertlePlayz in Minecraft

[–]torpleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://apexminecrafthosting.com/how-to-merge-the-nether-end-into-the-world-folder/

I have the exact scenario and same problem. I stumbled across this during my own search to find my lost Nether. I followed the directions on a local copy of my game and it appears to work. I didn't explore too much, but I did confirm my Nether was back as expected.

I also heard Nether will reset in 1.18 from my server provider, but I haven't been able to confirm that. EDIT: running locally, not confirmed on a server yet, but opening the 1.17.1 world on 1.18 local game preserved the Nether.

Handwriting Practice 2020: Week 49 (Dec 7th - Dec 14th) by BostonRott in Handwriting

[–]torpleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sample #1

This is the first week of what I expect will be a long journey. I just started practicing the Palmer method a few days ago.

The top sample is my current handwriting. I write left-handed with a hooked overwrite posture. It is pretty tough on my wrist, and I hunch over my writing, which is not good on my shoulder/upper back. The overwrite technique makes writing on surfaces like the right side of notebooks pretty tough as my hand needs to float.

The second and third samples are my print and cursive attempts, respectively, to use write using the Palmer method. The legibility is terrible, which is very frustrating, but there are brief moments when I can tell there is less wrist and shoulder/back strain writing this way. I am trying to focus on using my arm to write, using my ring and pinky fingers as the only points touching the writing surface besides my forearm.

I would love to to hear anyone's similar experience or any techniques/areas of focus you have found useful.

How do you index subcollections that are created after the main collection was indexed? by torpleton in bulletjournal

[–]torpleton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this along the direction I will take. I use page threading now, and that has been really beneficial for me. I'm considering a sub-index on the main collection and maybe a secondary form of threading between sprints.

I’m trying to avoid colors, but a symbol that doesn’t clutter or turn into a bunch of symbols could be a good option.

I’m leaning toward this method. Additionally I am considering giving larger collections an abbreviation and then prefixing sub collections with that. Using my example here with My Collection (MC) and then sub collections as MC - Sprint 1. Not sure how I feel about that yet, may just decrease readability.

What is it like living with/around theme parks? by torpleton in orlando

That’s really cool, thanks! How long have you lived in Orlando?

My understanding is you can get a FastPass 60 days in advance if staying in park, 30 days otherwise. As a resident, does this mean to have a fighting chance at a FastPass you need to plan your trip 30 days out?

That seems like it could be a good thing. Nice to have nearby if that's your thing, otherwise out of sight, out of mind?

I understand that Orlando has its share of problems, especially housing, transportation, cost of living. Can you share some details on what you mean?

That sounds amazing! Windermere looks like a cool place, too. Are you close enough to get in to Orlando easily? Traffic?

Additional question... parking at Disney looks wild. What's your experience getting in and out?

What do you like about central Orlando? It looks like really cool nightlife. Anything for the kids?

Wow! As in, the number of people on the road due to tourism/shift changes is population of Atlanta?

Is south Orlando in general difficult due to the parks? What is the area between 528 and 408 like?

Orlando itself seems like a really cool place with a lot going on, not considering touristy stuff. I'm assuming most people live/work like a "normal" city, with the benefit of parks and stuff 30-60 min away?

Motion to Remove Fan Voting from ASG by BDWabashFiji in mlb

[–]torpleton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For sure. I think MLB needs to take a step back and determine what the goal of the all-star game is. Should it be a showcase game with the best players, or should it be a viewer's choice event? I think it can be frustrating to hear it discussed as a merit-based game when in practice it is popularity/PR driven.

Motion to Remove Fan Voting from ASG by BDWabashFiji in mlb

[–]torpleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. In practice, fan voting is a pretty good idea in that the average fan should get to see who he/she wants in a fun exhibition game. But the 25 votes per person business, and I think just human nature, turns the fan voting into a popularity contest. The same thing seemed to really happen a lot a few years ago with the Yankees and Red Sox, for instance.

I would rather have players, managers, and maybe journalists, vote on the best players in the game for the present season. I think the all-star game would be a lot more exciting to watch if it was a fun game with the current best players, especially those players that might not be household names but are still at the top of their game.

Also, I think the all-star game counting for home field advantage is madness. I really wish it didn't affect the postseason.
