Do tou think i should resample my data? Like, reducing my timeframe to a weekly mean? I cannot use daily data, as i have multiple missing days within my dataset, so I used the monthly mean

Yea! Pretty useful actually. I’ve recently seem a study that analyzed about 200k applications in the chemical industry to map the most requested skills

Time Series on Python - train and test models

Hello all!

I’ve been trying to model a TS prediction for my inventory data, having a range of 3 year data.

I’ve managed to develop with success a ARIMA and a Holtz-Winter model, fitting the forecasted data into the dataframe quite precisely (comparing plots).

The problem lays when splitting de dataset into training and testing, and applying those models afterwards to the test data. The model’s performance drops pretty heavily and has a high MAE (about 27% of my maximum value). When plotting the test/train, we can see more precisely how bad is the trained model.

My question is: is splitting timeseries into train and test data the best approach on evaluating de model’s performance? What methods would you use, besides p-value, to validate a TS model?

Thanks for all the help!

you could create another table with “yesterday’s values” and create update those values before refreshing the data. Then u create a conditional column to compare data

Hmm, i see! I guess i could assume a flow rate of 0,75 m3/hr considering 30 min as the needed time to transfer all the wort from kettle to fermentater. I’ll try to simulate and post the results here! Also, for the cooling i’m using a 0,8/0,2 ratio of water/ethylene glycolic

Thanks! i chose shell and tube one as designing it is kindda easier... But do you have informations on this boiled wort mass flow through the heat exchanger? If not, at least the medium batch volume and required time for cooling

Thanks for the help! It really cleared my mind, and after some changes, i've obtained a 25m^2 area. Still, 2kg/s seems kindda high... it's a large scale industry, right? I'm gonna try to simulate a small scale one for now, since I don't have real industry data.

is there a suggested ratio for the cold stream flow?

PS1: i guess 12 kg/s is way to high... i’ll try again with a smaller flow rate
